02/07/2009 Fishing Report by peter glazzard on Carrick Lee (Newhaven, East Sussex)
2 Jul 2009 by peter glazzard
I went out today with Frank on the Carrick. I had to make a report because I have never before experienced such an all round complete package as good as this!!
We decided to start the day 'on the Cod' within an hour on the first mark we had boated a couple of dozen fish to around 12lb with a number of good sized double hook ups!
We then went off for a conger-once again and unbelievably Frank put us straight on the mark. We boated 4 conger to around 35lb within an hour and a half.
On the way back in, we stopped for a couple of hopeful bass drifts. We boated 5 bass on 3 drifts, right under the noses of another boat that had un successfully being drifting the mark all day!!!
The boat hand Guy, was fantastic, bacon butty waiting when we boarded and tea and coffee on demand!! He was like 'Johny on the spot' with the net, and was extremely knowledgeable on the tactics and tackle.
Ive spoken to a number of freinds and will be booking again as soon as possible.
Thanks Frank--Best day on a charter boat for me for many many years.

05/06/2009 Fishing Report by Frank Shaw on Carrick Lee (Newhaven, East Sussex)
5 Jun 2009 by Frank Shaw
I have to admit, I couldn’t have hoped for a better start to the season aboard Carrick Lee. The kind weather and healthy work schedule have allowed us to take full advantage of the ongoing restrictions of commercial cod fishing.
The lack of nets in mid channel, have allowed the cod and Pollack shoals to regenerate and this has had a massive impact on our own catches.
From the early days of February this year, we have regularly caught more than 30 cod and Pollack in a days fishing.
Our biggest cod to date was a massive 32lb caught by Tony Ellis 18 April. We have also managed 3 other cod of over 28lb and a 16lb Pollack.
Most of the cod have been taken on artificial baits, such as white or blue 5” shads, jelly worms or side winders and the good old pirks and feathers. Our sponsors Tronix (UK) Ltd supply strung muppets in five different colours and they are great.
Slowly the season is changing and the summer weather will bring the bass, bream and conger on to feed.
Both Guy and my self look forward to the summer aboard Carrick Lee, and we now offer a varied range of trips for our customers. As well as our usual day trips, we do 4.30pm-10.30pm evening bass trips and special trips for stag parties.
Hope to see you this year.
