  • 25/04/2025 Fishing Report by Scott Belbin on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)

25 Apr 2025 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

The fishing has been very good lately. Baits aren't lasting long at all before something gets hold of them. Smooth-hounds have been making up most of our catches. The last few trips we have averaged over 30 per day with our best days producing over 50. We haven't seen any monsters but loads of scrappy little hounds to put a bend in the rods. I'm between there have been a few rays and bass, absolutely loads of dogfish with a few whiting and pouting too.
It's a great time to get out and get a bend in the rod with the bass numbers picking up now for those who want something for the table.

⚓️ Neverland Hosts Blesma Veterans for an Unforgettable Day at Sea ⚓️
Tuesday 22nd April - Neverland proudly delivered a sea fishing experience for members of Blesma – The Limbless Veterans Charity, as part of our ongoing work with Mind Body & Sea CIC.
As an MBS-approved vessel, we were honoured to support this therapeutic day on the water, with two fantastic MBS volunteers on board helping create a warm, supportive environment. The fish were biting shortly after anchor was dropped, and a friendly onboard competition added to the laughter and camaraderie.
We’d like to extend a special thank you to Suffolk Yacht Harbour for making access smooth and straightforward for all individuals on the day – your support made a real difference.
Also, huge thanks to FIS Windows Ltd for sponsoring this experience and to the veterans for joining us – we look forward to welcoming you back anytime.

  • 23/04/2025 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

23 Apr 2025 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Yesterday’s team were a mixed group of lads travelling from as far afield as Brighton!

Forecasts were perfect again and because we had had a good day on the grounds the day before we opted for the same type of fishing again.

The fish were a bit finicky to start off and remained a bit like that for the best part of the day.
Squid remains the best way of catching for us at the moment and that was the way again yesterday.

John from Brighton had a reasonable day himself working a baited Hokkai trace and finished up with around 10 fish himself which anybody would be happy with.

I worked a shad all day and managed to pluck around 7 Codling out as did our crewman Fergus. A few of them undersized and returned.

My old mate Bill Barraclough from Barnsley was working the bait and boxed a half dozen.

A great day with plenty of sunshine and banter as is always the case on the Shy-Torque!

    Cheers for now

23 Apr 2025 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

It's been great to see a few rays showing at last. Unfortunately no huge numbers compared to a few years ago but enough to give us hope. We've seen a few each day over most of our last trips. The most being 8 in a day.
The smooth-hounds have been very numerous though. There's loads of small stuff with the biggest going 8lbs or so but all of them big enough to put a bend in the rods. To give you an idea of numbers we had 3 days in a row with over 30 each day, another day with over 50 and another with closer to 100 hounds ( I haven't had time to count up yet) .
The bass are here now and as these tides build I expect to see a few more sizable ones grace the net.
I have spaces this weekend so please get in touch if you want to join us aboard Galloper.

  • 22/04/2025 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

22 Apr 2025 by Andy Savage

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

Two day report aboard Sea Urchin…. With the forecast giving fairly light SE winds with a small neap tide on Monday, we opted to run North and try a couple of wrecks. As we ran to the first wreck, I couldn’t help noticing that the conditions were not as I expected. There was a bit of breeze and when we reached our destination, the first drift gave a couple of small Codling, but the lines were streaming.

We tried three different wrecks and caught nothing other than an odd Pouting. I’m still not sure if it was the fact there were no fish on the wrecks, or the streaming lines that made the fishing so poor. A change of plan was needed!

We ran out to the five mile ground for a couple of drifts and caught one small Haddock. I was now getting fed up with the lack of sport, so we pushed straight out to the nine mile ground and spent the remainder of the day drifting that. There were plenty of bites out there, but the average stamp of fish was small, with the majority chucked back (although they were probably in size, as 35cm is ridiculously small for keeping a Codling). It was far from the day I hoped to deliver for the lads.

Today was a better weather day, with the forecast being more accurate. Very light SW winds greeted us as we ran south to try a few wrecks. First stop at 12 miles saw a steady 45 minutes fishing. With a few fish each drift of mainly Codling, I was optimistic for what the rest of the day might hold. We ran on another five miles to the next wreck and bang, we caught next to nothing!

The water was as clear as I’ve seen it anywhere this year and you could see the fish come up from a long way down. We tried another two wrecks for the same result and I then admitted defeat and we started to nose our way back home, stopping on a few wrecks on the way.

We gathered a few fish here and there and Gary Rowstron caught the first Mackerel of the year. Other than that, it was another disappointing day. The anglers have been fantastic, which makes me more annoyed when things don’t go to plan.

I make no secret of the fact that I don’t like Spring fishing, you can be zero or hero every day. I’ve been zero the last two days….sorry boys.

    Apr 2025 by phillip browning

    Report on-board Braveheart II

The spurs are back in town and I don't mean the footie team..Great to see these once prolific fish making a comeback, we only had them in numbers for a few tides and we caught some beauties.
Here's a very ugly angler with a very handsome 19lb 12oz spurdog lol, and the next best thing to catching one of these awesome fish is when a mate catches one....especially as he was a spurdog Virgin before fishing aboard BRAVEHEARTII .
The Bass are showing in reasonable numbers now and we are averaging between a dozen and 25 per trip between 40 & 54cm along with smoothounds, a few Thornback rays, plenty of dabs and the usual lsd's & whiting.
If you want to book day out on BRAVEHEARTII either whole boat charter or individual...
Check out the availability calendar updated until the end of may.... will add more months when I get the time. HIRE TACKLE AVAILABLE, AND FROZEN BAIT INCLUDED ON ALL TRIPS.

    MANY THANKS & TIGHT LINES
