Thursday 17th April.
Chasing fish tails, and our own tails today.
Very scratchy out there this last couple of trips. Lots of algae bloom in the water on the flood tide after yesterday’s wind. The ebb tide cleared it up a bit. The dredger has also just been, and they have permission to dump their spoil a measly mile away uptide of the marina, which makes the water muddy.
Fish very scattered around, tons of marks on the sounder, but again being finicky on the bite. A few nice fish dropped. No big girl smoothies yet still, but several smaller ones. There’s not even that many pouting out there, not that I would usually complain about that, but it’s just bloody weird.
Best fish of the day had be Becky’s micro Codling ������
Off out again tomorrow, before the wind comes back and spoils Saturday and Easter Sunday ��.

Tuesday 15th April.
A swing in the weather again….. it’s day on, day off at the moment.
7 crew out on the reefs all day.
Yesterday was a bit more challenging than the trip before, today was more challenging than yesterday. Tides falling but still making the drifts a bit swift.
Quite a few snags from the chaps, some of whom have had a bit of a fishing hiatus. Blowing the cobwebs off today was a little bit of a baptism of fire - for some.
Fish all over the shop again, but they were being a bit finicky. View Boats Page

Monday 14th April ��
A full crew mixed session.
Bassing in the morning, smoothie hunting at lunch and the some drifting on the reefs.
Plenty of bass, with lots returned. More than half a dozen small smoothies in a quick hour at anchor. Several codling, a single keeper pollack (weird, they were hard to come by today), a few mackerel and a smattering of wrasse on the drift for the last bit of the day.

Saturday 12th April.
A bit of a different day compared to yesterday, with a lot more fish on the sounder than we managed to tempt onto our hooks, but it was still fishy.
Rough af to start, one poor chap being poorly ALL day. Fine to finish.
A change of wind direction has a lot to do with how these scaled foes act ��.
Easterly winds pose a challenge, often pushing fish deeper and making them less active, which requires you to adjust your tactics and target slightly deeper waters. The more experienced angler will always manage to pick fish up, but less experienced rods often find it difficult.
Despite this, some persistence pays off, and we returned to shore with a half decent catch, plenty of stories, and smiles all round. View Boats Page

What a belter.
I got my timings messed up today due to squeezing in the earlier lock. So, when the plan was to fish the last bit of the flood for smoothies, I in reality got us there an hour before I should, and missed out on a bit of fishing elsewhere as a result…
WELL I WENT AND REDEEMED MYSELF!!
Half a dozen Smoothies, gurnard, whiting, dabs, doggies, mackerel & would you believe it the - ��♂️�� FIRST BREAM OF THE SEASON �� ��♂️ landed before high water.
Reef fishing for the second half, which was pretty good judging by the smiles on my crews faces ��.
Codlings, Pollack, Wrasse, more mackies and the long awaited bass.
Again, the stamp and quantity of pollack was exceptional. A couple of fish in the early doubles, and the bulk of the rest of them were high single digits.
No monster bass, with quite a few borderline, which were returned. Nevertheless, it’s so refreshing seeing the birds going bonkers once more.
The bigger smoothies, and first Tope of the season must be imminent too.

A half day afternoon for some first time on a boat’ers.
More breeze than I was expecting, which was backing the tide, leading to a drift speed of 2kts.
The day wasn’t really meant to be a mackerel trip, but when you find them, you find them.
Good size shoals marking the sounder on a few different marks. The lads seemed to be more than happy with their sack of BBQ bound bounty. View Boats Page

Tuesday 8th April.
Nice out to start, with promise the conditions would worsen as the day went on. They did!! Slack on arrival, ebb starting, slack/flood the end.
Small tides + easterlies = meh!
A full crew on one of our inshore trips. A few regular regulars, and a few not so oftens.
The day started out slow but finished on a high. A great stamp, and number, of pollack landed today, irrespective of the conditions we contended with.
A mixture of styles (the lazy style adopted by Tim with the beard saw him land the most pollack on the trip) ��
Not many small fish at seen at all, and not a single wrasse, which was a bit weird. Lures, squid, sprats, rag and lug baits. View Boats Page

Massive tides with wind against
Leaving the marina to flat seas was lovely, but I knew it wouldn’t last.
Getting out to the reefs saw whitehorses, everywhere. Drifting at 2.5 kts on the flood with strong winds from the ENE was, well, pretty rubbish like.
The crew slogged away and deserve all the credit.

27th March .
2nd/last day with the ‘Old Bill’
Flat as you can get to start, then a bit windy in the afternoon.
Inshore day scratching around for species was the request.
A few species of Wrasse, plaice, dabs, and some other bits.
A bit slower than I would’ve liked, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. Evidence of small patches of may bloom in the water out to the reefs today. View Boats Page

Wednesday 26th March��
Day one of the Sandford Police Dept (Hampshire) po’po, 5-0, rozzers…. etc. 2nd annual Eastbourne Social �� ��♂️ ��.
2 boats, 12 suitably warranted blokes, armed with half the ragworm in the south of England. One of them happened to be recently retired Patriot Charters skipper Alan Jones - no pressure there then.
Offshore day. Absolute pea soup as soon as we left the marina. Radars on. Eyes peeled. Couldn’t see diddly squat.
A slower that usual steam out to the shipping lanes for species hunting. Stopping off at a wreck to snag half a dozen pollack on the way.
We waited until the fog had lifted somewhat before dancing with the big container ships in the lanes. 30 metres of visibility and fog horns sounding all around you tends to give you a bit of nerves.
The dense fog hung around until lunchtime, then it got hot (fuzz).
A few species onboard today, across 3 terrain types - wrecks, banks and reefs. The best fish came from the rocky bits. View Boats Page
