A big drop in the catch rate for Codling for the lads yesterday.
The fall in tides down into the high 4m range having the biggest impact on the job.
We started off just outside the harbour entrance where a few fish had been caught the day before on another boat.
It appeared that the fish were still there as we were getting bite after bite, a few of them strong bites too, but sadly they weren’t contacting properly.
A move to the North where we finished the day previous with a few fish was next.
As soon as we dropped in we were catching, but after half an hour it quietened off too.
A meagre picking of Codling for the lads with only 15-20 fish boated all day.
Best fish falling to young local lad Fergus Powell, a nice Codling at 6lb.
The usual baited rigs with squid, lugworm and crab cart catching the fish.
I’m away on my Honeymoon now until the 5th December. When we return we’ll be back at the Uptiding where the tides are running nice and strong again.
If you fancy a run before Xmas give me a shout on the usuals :-

We will sail with just 4 anglers for the Uptiding and 6 anglers for any offshore trips.
Tight lines wherever you’re fishing,
Cheers

Another relaxing day Uptiding yesterday ( once the pesky South East breeze dropped!)
We started the day using the flood tide and dropped south to the north cheek of RHB.
In a word, fruitless!
After an hour down there we decided to have few drops back towards the harbour.
Each time we moved we clicked a few fish and then it went quiet.
We ended up fishing the scaurs off Kettleness point where we found a steadyish fishing for the last hour where the lads took around 20 Codling.
Nothing big to report on the inshore grounds as yet but the Uptiding season is only just starting so I’m sure we will click a better fish or two in the coming weeks.
Cheers
Rich

Another nice day at sea yesterday with our mixed group.
Uptiding was the order of the day again.
The ebb tide produced around 20 fish that’s all which compared to the previous trip was fairly slow.
The flood tide didn’t really come alive either to be fair. Best Codling of 5lbs fell to Mark from Penrith and the total tally was around 30 for the day.
Another lovely “warm” day at sea.
Cheers for now,
Rich

Three mates of ours fancied a look out yesterday with a short window in the weather between the gales. Our first Uptiding trip of the year.
The tides were perfect for the Uptiding job so we ran out at 8.0am to a little mark of mine just a mile from the harbour.
Anchor dropped, coffee and tea made, they got their baits working straight away.
Immediately all three were into Codling!
We had the ebb tide till noon and they managed a lovely steady picking of fish right through the tide till slack water.
A short break for lunch and a short wait for the flood tide to bend though and they were back at it again.
As soon as the tide pushed through the fish were biting again.
Codling from 2lb to just shy of 5lb, but with the thick end of 60 fish to keep between the three, it really didn’t matter about the big ones as they all went home with a good bag of fillets each.
Top baits as usual were squid, black lugworm and crab cart and wings.
A great day all round!
Cheers lads.
The prospects for the winter Uptiding look very good indeed based on yesterdays efforts so if you fancy some inshore sport on the bigger tides get in touch on the usual number :-

Back out to sea yesterday for the first time in 3 weeks after a spell of poor weather, getting married and a quick holiday!
Simon Ullyott and his 5 mates chartered the boat for the day and enjoyed some steady fishing on the inshore wrecks.
Best fish falling to Wayne on the last drop of the day. A lovely Cod of 10lbs. Most of the fish came on the baited rigs but also a nice few on the artificials too.
A great day out on a lovely small tide.
Give me a ring on 07733 233352 if you fancy a trip. We will be working the boat right through the winter. The Uptiding season is fast approaching and we will sail with a minimum of 4 anglers.
Cheers for now,
Rich

Last trip out was Friday with our mixed group of lads.
We steamed North up towards Tees Bay for a change of scenery and worked several wrecks.
Out of the 6 we worked, only 2 of them produced fish with around 30 fish from them both.
Baited rigs again fishing the best with the fresh Mackerel doing the best.
John Dexter from Hornsea, East Yorkshire boating the best fish of the day, a nice Ling of 12lb 12oz.
When we boated the fish I never bothered to weigh it as we were rolling a bit with the weather. I figured it was going to be around the 10lb mark as it was a very short fish. Obviously a lot “chunkier” than we thought!
John took the £50.00 daily prize and was well chuffed.
Well done to him. John is pictured.
Cheers for now and keep the lines tight lads.

Day 3 and their last one yesterday for our team of 4 from Halifax West Yorkshire.
The bait fish were a little thin for the lads to start the day but we found a few to add to the spares left over from the day previous.
We started on a strip of ground just 4.5 miles from the harbour and stayed there for the best part of the morning with fish coming aboard steadily.
Slack water arrived at around midday so we tried a couple of wrecks for a handful of Codling/Ling.
Finishing off back on the ground where Andy pulled up a nice Ling of 12lb 6oz (pictured) which took him the daily 1st prize of £50.00. Well done to him.
The majority of our catch falling to the Mackerel and Squid baited rigs.
A pleasure sailing with you all again lads and look forward to sailing with you all again next year.
Cheers

Second day of their 3 day visit yesterday for Ken Fusco and the lads.
Mackerel we’re plentiful on the North end of the 5 mile.
A perfect tide and forecast so we decided to have a run to a group of wrecks some 25 miles North of the harbour.
A nice steady picking of fish for the lads with the total tally hitting the 50 mark.
Some lovely plump Cod and Ling with another daily prize boated. A nice Ling of 9lb 12.5oz winning £50.00 for the lads.
Cheers for now.

Ken Fusco from Halifax and his 3 mates joined us yesterday for the first of their annual 3 days in the competitions.
The water still a bit cloudy inside 4 miles after the big Northerly swell so we marched out to the 5 mile areas to find some Mackerel. Around 20 boated in 5 mins which was ample enough for the 4 of them.
Out then to our first mark, a wreck just shy of 18 miles where the lads picked a couple of dozen fish from it, so a nice start for them.
To be honest, we struggled a bit after that and they maybe had another 10 fish for the day.
Ken took the best Cod (pictured) at 7lb 8oz and they took plenty of Ling between them to around the 7lb mark.
No daily prize but some nice fishing for the lads.
Cheers

Just the 2 days at sea so far in this year’s September competition!
Last Wednesday and yesterday and after the run of fresh Northerlies neither day fished particularly well.
Last week was the tail end of the big Spring tides where the lads managed a mere dozen fish for the day.
Yesterday was a slight improvement with 20 fish boated but on perfect wrecking tides, still poor. Cloudy water at present so we’re just waiting now for the clarity to return.
Both days however gave the lads daily prize winning fish of £50.00
Paul Mawson from Bridlington pictured with his winning fish yesterday.
Cheers for now and tight lines,
Rich
