Yesterday’s crew enjoyed a nice but breezy day on the water in the Uptiding Competition.
A £5.00/ man sweep on the boat was led for the best part of the day by Andy from Sheffield with a Codling of 4.5 lbs. Andy finished the day with around 15 fish for himself and was top for the boat.
At the end of the day and after our final move Dave from Hull caught a slightly better one at 5lb 4oz giving him the money on board.
His fish would also have taken the heaviest of the day in the competition but sadly he gutted it and missed out. Oops!!
A few spaces left in the event next week if you fancy a bash.

The Uptiding Competition started last Saturday but it was our first day at sea in the comp yesterday after poor weather at the weekend.
Bob Ellis and Richard chartered the boat for themselves and had a very enjoyable day working some peaks of ground just a half mile from the harbour.
Baited Pennell rigs with squid and lugworm doing the business for them.
The lads finished off with 18 keepers with a lot of undersized returned.
Best fish went 5.26 lb.
A great day with great company too.
Cheers

After yet another long spell off the water it was slow going for the lads on yesterday’s trip.
We started on the ground marks on the 9 mile for 4 or 5 fish.
Out to a wreck 17 miles off then for just another half dozen fish. West bound then to another wreck for another 4 or 5 fish that’s all, finishing off on some more ground for a couple to finish off.
Lovely weather however and a real pleasure to sail with great folk after being landlubbed for such a long time.
Ian Hill from Ripon pictured with one of his nice plump Codling.
Uptiding Competition starting this Saturday which runs for a fortnight. After this last couple of days of strong Northerlies on rising tides I am really hoping that we will see some good fishing inshore at anchor in the next couple of weeks. A couple of days left with spaces in the last competition of the year.
Cheers for now,
Rich

Had a run out yesterday with Andy and Mike and their lads.
The forecast wasn’t good enough for us to get out distance so the lads were happy to try a day inshore at anchor.
We ran South from the harbour and picked around 15 Codling, 1 Dogfish, a few Pouting and 4 Lobster (all returned) Nothing startling but a great day out for the lads, 4 of whom had never been to sea before. Best Codling went about 4lb.
Great to get an odd day out in between all this horrible weather.
Uptiding Competition starting on the 6th November and runs for a fortnight (a few places left)
Cheers

Last trip off was last Wednesday
(forgot to report sorry!)
This was our first run out after a 3 week spell of rubbish weather.
We didn’t fish particularly well to be fair with around 25 Cod boated for the day.
Paul from Brid taking the best of the day with a nice Codling of 5lb 5oz. .
The Uptiding/ Downtiding Competition starts on the 6th November and runs for a fortnight. Still a few places left in that if you fancy a go. Some good cash prizes up for grabs.
Cheers for now

Well, that’s the last competition of the year over here at Whitby and another cracker for the lads on the Shy-Torque III with the 4 heaviest fish of the competition taken with us.
Dimitri Maranda from Southport taking 4th heaviest with his Ling weighing 12lb 1oz.
Lee Bennett from Dewsbury taking 3rd heaviest with his Ling weighing 13lb.
Marcin Kozubinski from Accrington taking 2nd heaviest with his Ling weighing 14lb 3oz.
The overall heaviest fish of the competition landed by Nigel Hall from East Cowtonbury.
His fish weighing in at 15lb 7oz and landing him yet another £1050.00 in cash!!!
Nigel has now won 3 competitions with the Shy-Torque in the last couple of years so a massive well done to him.
The drinks are on you mate!
This also means that we have landed the “Treble” in 2021 winning all 3 of the competitions which is a great feeling and has never been done before in the history of the events.
This year’s September competition winner, Nigel Hall is pictured inset with his winning fish.
I’d like to thank all those who fished with us this year and hope to see you again sometime in the future.
Cheers for now,
Rich

Last trip off for us was last Monday and with the making Springs coming after that we chose to take a few days off. The fresh winds at the moment would have made us cancel anyway.
Mackerel stocks were still good for us on Monday on the 3 mile stream and the lads quickly gathered enough for the bait stocks.
First stop was a strip of ground 7 miles off where we took a half dozen fish. The best of them, a nice Ling for Joe from Selby at just under 12lbs. A potential daily prize winner maybe?
We worked the ground for a couple more hours until the tide eased back to allow us to work a wreck.
This produced around a dozen fish or so. Nothing big boated there. As the flood started “booling” through, it was back to the ground marks to finish off. Bits and bobs coming aboard with some nice fresh Mackerel to finish too.
I was about to write Joe a ticket out to weigh his fish in in the competition, when I found out it had been gutted and filleted!!!! Ooops!!
Heaviest fish weighed in on the day was an ounce or two over 10lb so would have been a winner for him!!
Fresh winds for the next couple of days so some time for general maintenance.
Cheers for now,
Rich

What a day we had on Saturday!
Perfect weather allowed us to travel to a couple of wrecks 30 miles from port.
The first wreck was disappointing with just a half dozen fish boated.
The second one however was unreal. The first drift was like winding the clock back 30 years to when my Dad and me worked commercially. 6 of the rods boated 13 Cod to 10lb with one of the lads landing a lovely treble!
They worked the wreck for a good 2 hours and took a good amount of fish from it.
Marcin from London boated the heaviest on board with a fine Ling of 14lb 3 oz which also took the heaviest fish of the day prize in the competition.
A fab day all round.
Cheers for now,
Rich

Baymans hole, 26 miles from port was our fishing area yesterday where we worked just 2 wrecks.
The first didn’t produce very much at all with just 10 fish boated.
The second wreck in the deep water did produce very well indeed though with plenty of good sized Ling boated.
Jason Shields from Driffield was holding the first place on the boat with a fine Ling just over 14lbs until slack water when my old mate and past festival winner Nigel Hall landed a better one at 15.5 lbs.
Nigel took the daily 1st prize with his fish and is currently leading the competition.
Excellent day with great banter too!
Cheers

Richard Adams, his son Andy and daughter Lucy chartered the boat yesterday with a couple of mates.
We did the usual stop off for the bait stocks and then whizzed up to Tees Bay to work some distance wrecks.
From the off, Lady Luck Lucy was showing the lads how to go on and had a half a box of fish in the first half an hour!
She was also leading the heaviest fish on board, a nice Ling of 10.5 lbs until our last stop of the day where Dimitri landed a Ling just over 12lbs which won the sweep. His fish was also good enough to get him the 1st daily prize in the competition. Well done to him.
A great day weather wise and also on the fish.
Cheers
Rich
