Last couple of days we’ve spent uptiding.
Plenty of codling flying around still after the 3 days of big Northerlies.
Water like soup so it’s looking like this will be the plan for the next few trips.
40-50 codling each day, all on the baited rigs.
Squid doing the best on the pennell rigs. Lugworm also worked.
All fish kept were on the measure and above but nothing above 3lb. Plenty of throw backs too.
Nigel Hall pictured with a few of his catch of 20 fish.
    Cheers for now.

    Hi lads and lasses,

Just for your information, the Whitby Charter Skippers Association have decided (due to appalling weather predicted for this week) to extend their Spring angling competition for a week.
This now means the end date is now Sunday 25th April.
Let’s hope we can salvage something from it.

    Cheers

Nice to be back at sea after such a long time.
Last couple of days spent uptiding at anchor.

Steady results each day with the best cod today falling to Andy from South Yorkshire.

An odd place left in the upcoming competition which starts this Saturday.

    Cheers for now

    Morning all,

We received an email yesterday from the Professional Boatmans Association.

The PBA has had a memo from the Dept for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, (DEFRA)

DEFRA have announced that the skippers of charter boats such as ours will NOT be included in the group gathering number of 6. Good news.

They have also indicated that social distancing should be adhered to whilst onboard. I am personally asking that our anglers continue to wear face masks , use hand sanitiser used etc...
This I'm sure, you will agree with. This thing isn't over yet!!

Social distancing of 2 metres is easy on our boat, even with 6 anglers on board.

This will mean that we will have room for 1 more angler on our boat where the calendar is currently showing FULL with 5.

The calendar will be updated today and all dates currently showing fully booked and red will turn to partially booked and yellow.

Here's hoping everyone has a safe and fruitful 2021

    Cheers for now

PS, the owners of the tackle shop in Whitby have told me that you can call them to order any tackle and bait for collection only from the 29th March.
This is because they aren't allowed to re-open until the 12th April.
Their contact number should you wish to pre order stuff is :-

    Hi All,

As I'm sure you've all heard, the PM announced that we will be allowed to gather socially, outside again, from the 29th March with numbers up to 6. This is great news for us all and is a positive step in the right direction.

The Spring competition starts on the 3rd April for a fortnight and as you can imagine the phone has suddenly gone berserk! We currently just have 1 day left now with any spaces (Monday 12th April)

The rule of 6 will apply throughout the competition which will mean 5 anglers plus myself. Calendar is fully updated.

I'm asking that PPE is still used on board the boat and social distancing adhered to. Please bring hand sanitisers too.

We understand that most outdoor social rules will be lifted on the 17th May and we will hear more about this a week before that date. Fingers crossed that we can operate with full compliments again from then.

Pre lockdown the fishing was very good inshore so we know they were there! :-)

Give me a ring on the usual number to arrange any trips.
Looking forward to seeing you all again real soon!

    Cheers for now

I'd just like to take this opportunity to welcome a new member to our association (WCSA)
Ken Graham off the charter boat "Libby" joined our group yesterday. Ken specialises mainly in 3 hour trips and offers excellent taster trips for folk just starting out plus mackerel fishing days throughout the summer months.

Hi all. Hope you all had a great Xmas!

Last trip offshore (22nd) was crap to be honest. Ground and wrecks producing about a dozen fish that's all.

We had a days uptiding/downtiding yesterday with the maximum 5 allowed on board at present due to the government rules.

The lads fished really well. Cod to 6lb 8oz and a cracking ling of 14lb 10oz caught by Dave Sharp which was awesome sport in 50ft of water!! In all, around 40 fish on the boat. Baited rigs as always when fishing this method with cocktails of squid and black lugworm fishing the best.

We'd like to thank all our customers both old and new during this chaotic and tumultuous year! Let's hope and pray next year is something like back to normal. Look forward to seeing you all again then.

We have room this coming weekend on both Saturday and Sunday which will be another inshore trip. We'll sail with just a couple of anglers when working the uptide/downtiding as we don't have to travel too far.

    Cheers
    Rich

Some nice uptiding when the tides are right at the moment.

A nice day at sea on Sunday with our group of 5 lads.

We fished inshore at anchor as the forecast wasn't good enough for an offshore trip.

The lads fished the baited rigs again using the black lug, squid, peeler etc and ended up with around 25 fish for their efforts.

Rich Askew from Harrogate took the best codling at 6lb .

Give me a ring after Xmas if you fancy a day.

    Cheers Rich

A great day uptiding just half a mile from the harbour on Tuesday .

Cod averaging the 4 to 5lb mark. A mixture of baits used including squid, black lug, mussel etc...

Perry Franklin taking the best catch with around 12 fish himself.

Room for a couple on Tuesday next week then that will be it until after Xmas.

    Cheers

Sailed yesterday with Chris Wake and his friends from Kilnsey.

We fished an offshore wreck which gave us a nice day on the cod and ling. Cod to just under 6lb and ling to 7lb.

Both the shads and the bait doing the business.

A very enjoyable day for all.

The group are pictured inset with just a few of their catch.

Room Tuesday & Wednesday next week if you fancy a go before Xmas.

    Cheers

Sailed yesterday with the maximum 5 anglers we are allowed on board at the moment.

We picked away steadily for the first couple of hours on a wreck 8 miles from port. Most of the fish coming up on the artificials again. 30 or so fish boated with a good number around the 4-5lb mark. The fishing slowed up then and we only scratched another 10 fish after that.

Rich Hirst taking a nice pollack just over 5lb too.

Check the availability calendar for places on the run up to Xmas. A few days with places left.

    Cheers
