Fishing Report by Rich Ward

Had a run off yesterday after a short break away. Wasn't sure what to expect as the weather hasn't really been that good for offshore work.
Regular Shy-Torque angler Bill Barraclough from Barnsley joined us with a couple of others, Matt and John from Mersyside.
A run out to a couple of mid distance wrecks proved to be great for us all. The fish were flying aboard at one point and Bill managed a couple of "doublers" and even a treble!! He fished the bait all day and ended up with around 20 fish himself!
With the water as clear as gin and alive with sprats, this made the shad and sidewinder fishing terrific as well. I personally had nearly 30 Cod myself, all taken on the artificials. Great sport especially for the time of year.
The lads are pictured with some of their haul!
We have a few days coming up shortly with individuals booked on so if you fancy joining them check out the calendar and give me a ring.
The competition dates for anyone who doesn't have them yet are as follows :-
Spring comp :- April 7th - 22nd inc.
Summer :- June 23rd - July 15th Inc.
Late Summer :- Sept 15th - 30th inc.
There is still availability in all the competitions but the Summer one is starting to get a fair bit of interest as usual.
We only have 5 days left in the Summer comp where the boat is empty, so if you were wanting a club booking check out the calendar for those.
As always we are taking lots of individual bookings so there a good number of days where you can join others on the boat too.
Tight lines

Hi all,
The boat has been out of the water this last 7 days.
She has just undergone her 1st out of water check over, antifouling and polish and all is good.
I'd like to thank my good mates Guy Wrightson, Rich Simpson, Craig Simmonds, Nigel Hall, John Wilford and my lovely partner Val Walker for all their help over the last weekend.
The calendar is fully up to date for you all. Bookings in the Summer competition are starting to go a bit quicker now so if you fancy a go in it drop me a line on here or any of the numbers.
Tight lines as ever

A good days work on a couple of wrecks this last Saturday. Not having to travel too far either which was good. The water clear enough to be catching on the artificials too, which is great for this time of the year.
A nice mixed bag of fish for the group with the best fish falling to Gordon Yates , a lovely Pollock of 10 lb 6 oz.
The lads are pictured inset with some of their catch.

After a very steady days fishing yesterday, the lads today absolutely creamed it !!
Perfect conditions for working a couple of wrecks just 45 minutes from the harbour, the lads couldn't believe their eyes when the fish started coming aboard in doubles and even trebles at one point !!
Glen Nichols from Nottingham used a "Hartlepool horror" baited with squid and had us all amazed with double hook ups on several occasions (that's doubles on one lure) Glen ended up with a slack box of fish for himself.
Top rod on the boat today was regular Shy-Torque angler Simon England who had a good box of fish ( 7 stone ) himself, working the shad all day long.
Young William Thompson (11) and his Dad Richard from Oxfordshire had a great day too and with our team of 4 from Norfolk, Malc, Steve, Andy and mad Jacko adding a good box and a half to the count I reckon we would have a combined 120+ Cod boated with loads of smaller fish returned too.
A fun filled day for all with plenty enough fish to keep them going over the Xmas period.

Pete Kisby from Nottingham and 4 of his mates joined us today for their pre Xmas offshore trip.
We started on the ground on the 9 mile to see if there was any action for us but sadly there wasn't !! After the last couple of big Northerly storms I'm guessing the water below is very murky indeed. Even the bait wasn't attracting them.
We decided that a little run to a couple of offshore wrecks was in order to see if the water was any clearer. Fortunately it was a little better and once the tide bent round after slack the fishing wasn't too bad at all. Pollack to just under 9 lbs and Cod to just over 6 lbs. The lads ended up with around 35 fish between them, so all in all, an ok sort of day. Weather was a real bonus too. Chilly but nice and calm for a change!
We have room for a few more anglers this coming Wednesday if anyone is interested. The forecast is very good.
Tight lines.

Some good fishing for the lads on today's uptiding (anchor) trip. Well, on the mornings ebb tide anyway!
Somewhere around 40 fish in the morning with lots of throw back Codling too.
The afternoon flood tide didn't fish very well at all. I think we only managed about 5 fish in total on the flood so we decided to call it a draw at 3 pm and returned to the harbour to get the high water bridge.
Bryan Stanton and his son Steve fished the best out of the group. They had a mini competition between themselves and had around 25 fish. I never did find out who caught the most but it was quite intense at times!!
No big fish today, the best fish only just over 4 lb but some lovely plump codling amongst them.
A few trips in the diary next week with some room left if you fancy joining us for some Xmas cheer.
Tomorrow :- Room for 5. Offshore trip.
Wednesday :- Room for 6. Offshore trip.
Thursday :- Room for 2. Offshore trip.
I'd like to wish all our anglers, both old and new, a very happy Xmas and a Happy New Year.
Cheers and tight lines

After the last week of strong Northerly winds here at Whitby we were fully expecting that the uptiding (inshore anchor fishing) would be very good indeed and we weren't wrong!!
We had bookings for the boat over the weekend and Monday, but sadly we missed the days due to a strong wind warning from the NW which never came (so annoying!!!) We did however manage to get the lads away on Tuesday and what a day they had.
Steady fishing right from the off in "Sandsend" corner working in the shallows (60ft of water) Great sport all day for the lads with the majority of the fish coming up on the squid and lug worm. The crab cart attracted a few fish but not as many as the other baits. Every day is different inshore just as it is when working offshore which is why it's always good to have a varied selection of baits.
Great banter, Hot tea & coffee flowing all day with lovely weather too. Perfect.
Ben Kitchingman landed the best fish of the day. A lovely cod of 8 lbs. When he was told it would have won the recent competition here at Whitby and £1000.00 he nearly fell over!! His Dad Dave landing the most fish with around 30 fish himself!
We have a few dates still free on the lead up to Xmas when the boat is empty and if you fancy an inshore trip I will sail with just 2. Booking calendar fully updated at all times.
We also have a few dates with lads already booked on.
They are :-
Mon 18th Dec (Room for 7) Offshore trip.
Wed 20th Dec (Room for 6) Offshore trip.
Thur 21st Dec (Room for 2) Offshore trip.
Individuals very welcome as always.
Tuesdays lads are pictured with some of their catch.

Still stacks of fish showing on both the offshore and inshore marks here at Whitby.
The back end of last week was a little inclement but because the fish are so plentiful we were hitting them as soon as we were touching the bottom. A lovely selection of Cod and Pollack on the ground and nearly all the fish taken on the shads and sidewinders. Any colour doing the business. Bait also taking a few fish.
If you fancy a trip with us either inshore at anchor or on the offshore wrecks and ground, give me a call on 07733 233352. We will sail with just 2 anglers on the anchor trips and 4 anglers on the offshore trips. Free tea, coffee and biscuits all day on the inshore anchor trips.
Fridays team are pictured with some of their fish. The boat will continue work throughout the winter including the Xmas period.
All the best
