Well, what a contrast from yesterday.
No great shakes at all yesterday but a lot worse today!!!
Ran back to grounds well offshore (30 mile) to find the algae had kicked in BIG time overnight out there too.
Scraped around for very little at all. Again, a lovely day weather wise with 200% effort put in as always but rubbish fishing!!
Roll on clear water again.
Honest reports as ever lads and no BULL!!
Tight lines

With the current Algae in the water linked with massive tides, the inshore fishing is very slow indeed at present, so we had a run to the deeper waters out on the 30 mile grounds today. The Algae was out there too but not in the same quantity.
The lads managed a respectable 40 or so fish with Codling to around 6lb, Ling to a shade under 12lb and a handful of Pollack.
All in all a nice day for the lads and when we broke through the fog at 20 miles, nice and warm for a change too!!
Cheers

After a week of crappy weather here at Whitby, we eventually sneaked a day yesterday. Another "window" to take advantage of. Sick of looking for windows in the weather now !!
Some decent Pollack fishing on the first wreck with numbers of fish approaching 25 to around 7 lbs in weight.
A few half decent Codling too with the best going just short of 6 1/2 lb.
The algae bloom is there or thereabouts at Whitby now so the fishing can sometimes be a little patchy at this time of the year. However, if the weather is fine enough, we can get you to the marks further afield to the deeper waters where the algae isn't quite as bad. These deeper water marks can very often produce when other more inshore marks are quieter.
Cheers for now and tight lines as ever !

The Spring angling competition ended here in Whitby last Sunday 17th April.
The lads and lasses who fished aboard the Shy-Torque made a valiant and sterling effort each day we were off to try and tempt the big one!!
Sadly, the big one didn't poke it's nose out for them this time, but with the most daily prizes won across the competition falling to the Shy-Torque anglers and second overall heaviest fish too, I reckon we all did a pretty good job !!
May I thank all the anglers who fished with us aboard the boat in the competition and look forward to seeing you all again soon. The Summer competition will be on top of us soon!! Still some dates available.

Approaching the end of the Spring competition here at Whitby now guys.
We decided that a run off shore again today was in order, to try for the big one.
Nothing to challenge the leading fish, but Bill Wildey from Edinburgh took yet another 1st daily prize for the Shy-Torque crew with a nice Cod of (I think) 9 lb 9 oz.
Bill is pictured.
Cheers

A cracking forecast today allowed us to try some more distant offshore wrecks in search of the Spring festival winner.
A mixed group of regulars along with newcomers to the boat resulted in a reasonable show of fish for the lads today.
Starting on a wreck 17 miles North of the harbour and finishing on one some 27 miles from shore, the lads ended up with around 60 fish between them. Not a brilliant catch numbers wise, but some good quality fish, with the best fish falling to regular Shy-Torque angler Guy Wrightson who took 1st daily again. Guy lead the comp at the start with a nice Ling of just over 12 lbs.
His Pollack today of 9 lbs winning the £50.00 daily 1st prize.
His mate Craig Simmonds taking 3rd daily prize.
Guy is pictured.
Cheers and tight lines

To be perfectly truthful, the fishing here at Whitby over the last week or so hasn't been particularly startling. This has been mainly down to the huge tides we have just had and a slight discolouration in the water.
Neil Avery and his team joined the boat today and had a slow day all in all. Some 20 odd fish for the boat that's all.
The lads weren't disappointed though as, as always, 150% effort was put in on the day by all the lads and crew.
Colin Middleton took the best fish of the day with a cod of 6 lb 10 oz.
Cheers and tight lines as ever

The spring angling competition started here at Whitby last Saturday.
A very blustery Southerly wind was forecast at first so we decided to leave the harbour at 9 am to give the wind a chance to abait a little which fortunately it did.
We headed straight out to our first mark some 20 miles East of the Harbour with very poor results. Around 20 fish off it. The second spot produced a lot better with around 50 fish coming off this. No monsters but my old mate Guy Wrightson took the fish of the day on the boat with a Ling of 12 lb 3.5 oz. This fish also took the heaviest overall on the day in the competition and is currently leading the event. Well done mate. Let's hope it stands till the end!!
If you would like a go in the Spring comp we still have a few spaces left on the 11th, 12th and 13th next week.
A very nice 1st place cash prize of £1000.00 is on offer for the heaviest fish of the competition.

A perfect weather forecast gave us a shot at redemption today on the previous days efforts!!
A perfectly calm day allowed us to cruise out at a steady 15 knots to one of favourite offshore marks 26 miles off.
When things aren't particularly good on the inshore marks, mainly due to the water clarity, we can usually find a "picking" out there and that is exactly what the lads did.
On arrival the lads were straight in to the fish and a steady stream of codling and ling were coming aboard for the best part of the day. Total tally for the lads was 75 cod, 8 ling and some good quality whiting. Best bag on the boat was 15 cod.
Cheers and tight lines as ever.

A mixed group of 9 lads joined the boat today from Bolton, Manchester and Doncaster.
We started the day on the 9 mile ground and wrecks for very little at all. Probably half a dozen fish between the lads, that's all. We decided a move to a wreck further offshore was in order so we steamed an hour to see if we could find some clearer water. The water there wasn't much clearer to be honest and we only managed another 25 fish or so from it.
We finished the day on another wreck some 17 miles from shore with very poor results off that one too. Another 3 or 4 fish that's all.
All in all we scraped a "picking" for the lads but it was a struggle.
No lies from this quarter lads and lasses. I will always report the truth on the day be it good or bad.
Fishing is as unpredictable as the lottery and we do sometimes get some rough with the smooth. One thing is guaranteed though, we never stop trying for you!!
I'd just like to say a very big welcome to two new sponsors for this years Summer angling competition here at Whitby. The "Skippers cafe" which used to be "Bills cafe" and then "Arbuts" is one of them and also "Hook Line & Sinker" tackle shop which is directly opposite the entrance to the car park on Church Street is the other. Both these sponsors are open from around 5.45 am every morning and offer a very warm welcome to all anglers. More details to follow.
Tight lines wherever you fish.
