The fishing remains very steady here at Whitby. Over the last week or so we have certainly had more good days than bad. A steady picking of codling wherever we've worked to be honest. The "codling" seems to be the main stamp overall this year. Usual size being 2 -5lb. One or two more decent fish thrown in amongst them.
Last Monday saw the weather take yet another turn for the worse and is currently out of the North with some strength behind it at times. Just hoping it doesn't do any damage before the September comp gets under way this coming Saturday (5th Sept) We have just 1 day left in the comp now (Tuesday 15th) Individuals are very welcome to join us.
The competition offers anglers cash prizes up to £1000.00 !!
This last week has seen some very happy anglers aboard the boat. Best Cod fell to regular angler on the boat Simon England at a shade over 13lbs.
A very good Haddock of 4lb 4oz fell to a newcomer to the boat. Gedirius from Leeds.
Simon is pictured.
Tight lines

After a cracking break with my 2 boys and friends down near my mothers in Devon we're back at it again lads. The first crew on board after the break was Dean Parsons and his mates from Easingwold. A great days sport on the ground with over 70 fish caught between the 5 of them, plus a hugging of monster Mackerel !! The fishing continues to be at it's best here at Whitby. Room for a few spare anglers tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday.
Cheers and tight lines,

Some quite outstanding fishing for the boys today on the boat. A group of 6 lads taking the boat meant oodles of space for them and oodles of fish too!!
Regular angler Nigel Hall from East Cowton showed the rest of the team how to go on and ended up with nearly 8 stone of cod and ling himself ( 112lb )
A great days work by anyone's standards.
Doubles and trebles boated for a good hour or so at the start of the day ensured everyone went home with a cracking bag of fish.
A beaming Nigel is pictured!!
A quick note lads................There are just 2 days left in this years September competition. Competition starts 5th Sept and ends 20th September.
They are :- Tuesday 15th Sept. Empty boat.
Wednesday 16th Sept. Room for 8 anglers.
Tight lines as ever,

A mate of mine from Batley in Leeds had the boat booked on the 10th Aug. Sadly Ahmed couldn't make the trip due to international work commitments and had to fly to Bahrain the night before the trip.
The rest of the lads managed the trip and had a terrific day just 2.2 miles from the harbour with a cracking catch of over 100 fish!!
A load of Mackerel at the bouy at the end of the day rounded it off to perfection.
Ahmed has since called me to tell me how jealous he is and is in the process of booking several more trips before the end of the season.
Aka who stood in for Ahmed is pictured with a lovely plump codling. -

Regular angler from York Ian Hart and a mixed group had a cracking day with the boat on the 9th with codling to just over 8lb.
Long may this weather continue and long may the codling be plentiful too.

The weather is continuing to be kind to us all here on the North East and the lads are taking full advantage of it and the good sport from the codling too.
Local lad Graham had a run off with us and managed a good half a box of codling (50lb)
A cracking tan by the end of the day too!! -

Simon Nutall and some of his friends joined the boat on the 5th August and had a very pleasant days fishing.
No vast amounts of fish it has to be said but a cracking day weather wise with each of the lads leaving with plenty for the table and freezer.

Mixed fortunes as ever over the Spring tide period. Some good days, some not so good days, but as ever, we endeavour to try and meet the expectations of our ever loyal crews on the Shy-Torque.
Hats off to the boys who fish these rather "heavy" tides, and again, those who are prepared to work extra hard on them are rewarded with a good bag of fish to take.
Ted Sabin, a regular aboard the boat, showed the rest of the lads the way home the other day with a lovely bag of 14 cod and 3 ling. Alan Sutcliffe, his mate, with a similar number too.
Ted is pictured with a couple of his fish.

Had 5 lads booking the boat for today. Phil Parkes and his mates from west Yorkshire.
A weather forecasters nightmare I'm sure here on the East coast for today's forecast. Some saying no wind, others giving a fresh NE breeze. Last forecast at 6pm last night said we go, so we had the lads through.
The breeze was a little more than predicted this morning but our seasoned anglers decided that we should give it a go seeing as they were already in town. Some skippers thought that we were "Dick Turpins" ( 5 boats sailed and some got the whole day in with a terrific catch) but when your lads have been going to sea nearly as long as me and know the score then we can only oblige and hopefully find a few!
2 hours angling on the rough ground only 3 miles offshore resulted in the boys collecting over 20 codling between them which they were very happy with indeed. Another few trips trip booked on the strength of it !!!
The lads are pictured with a few of their codling.
Happy fishing!!

American Tim Maas and his friends from Cambridgeshire joined us the other day and experienced some steady fishing on a stiff NW breeze which hindered the efforts somewhat!!!
First timer Tim and pals gathered around 60 fish for the day which was cut short due to the conditions. The lads tried really hard for their fish which was to be admired. Regularly winding back to the boat when the lines lifted too far certainly paid off for them. Proving the age old point, "The harder you work, the more fish you will catch"
Tight lines as ever
