After a short break away with the family for a week we returned to sea today to some lovely conditions.
A good number of cod and ling around the 7 and 9 mile ground with the best fish being a lovely cod which tipped the scales at 13lb 6oz. Best ling going 9lbs.
The cod fell to my own rod which went down well !!! :-))))))))))
Just a couple of days left with any room across the whole of September now.
The dates with room are :- Tuesday 3rd Sept ( room for 2 )
Thursday 19th Sept ( room for 5 )

16.08.2013.
A new team of lads to the boat today.
Matt Haylett and some of his workmates from Blackpool constabulary joined us for their first ever trip out of Whitby.
We fished some local ground marks on the 3 and 4 mile and had a steady days fishing from start to finish with a good picking of cod and ling. No big fish today but plenty for the table. Best tactic on the day was baited daylights.
Matt and the lads are back again with us later on in the year.
Pictured is Andy Sargeant with one of his fish.

15.08.2013.
David Laine and Nigel Hall and a couple of their mates joined us on Thursday this week for their second sharking trip of 2013.
The weather forecast was sadly too bad for us to get to our usual ground to try for them and we were resrtricted to fishing the 12 mile ground. We positioned the boat near to one of the wrecks on the ground and began our quest.
Sadly no sharks turned up for the boys but they did have a cracking days sport with the light gear.
They ended up with around 150 flatties and a handful of haddock, gurnard and whiting. I don't think I've ever seen as many flatties in one session!!
The lads are back again for their last shark trip on the 11th September so here's hoping on that day.

14.08.2013.
The 9 mile ground producing as well as I've seen it produce for a long time on the 14th.
We get a lot of mixed groups on the boat and this day was a cracker for all those on board.
We aimed for the 9 mile ground again after seeing some good signs there over the last couple of weeks and the lads fished steady for around 5 hours.
Cod to 7lb, ling to 12lb and a lovely pollack of 8lb 8oz were amongst some 80+ fish on the morning. The afternoon tide after slack water didn't really produce too much fish when the S.E breeze picked up at the back of the tide and made the drift a bit too quick.
Pictured is Stuart Fletcher with a lovely pollack of just over 8lb.
Cheers

13.08.2013.
A mixed group of regulars on the boat today with lads from Leed,Scarborough, Hull and other areas.
Starting on the 3 mile ground to gather the ever abundant mackerel which are running there at the moment we found that the bottom fishing was worth staying with for a while too.
The first hour produced a steady stream of codling to around 6lb with a few ling thrown in to the 8lb mark.
When it quietened on the 3 mile we had a mooch out to the ground on the 7 mile to find a steady picking for another hour or so.
Best catch fell to regular angler Terry Seaton from Hull who has had 5 trips in 8 days this last week or so. Mad for it !!!
Terry is pictured with a couple of his fish.

The shark fishing here at Whitby is without a doubt the best I've seen for a number of years.
After last years desperate lack of them it would seem that there are more now than ever.
Todays sharking trip was more of a family trip with just my Brother-in-Law Dave and Nephew Ben on board.
Sailing at 6am this morning we stopped to gather some fresh mackerel for the chum stocks which we had on board in no time. Some big mackerel too.
We steamed out to our usual mark and began our fishing at 8.45am. At 11.30am we were joined by a bull seal. Not what we wanted to see! Not 1 minute after he had turned up we got a run on one of the furthest baits. 10 seconds after that take we had another take on the shallow bait closest to the boat. All hell let loose !!
The closest one luckily dropped the bait which just left us with the one fish on. We sharpish wound the other baits back to the boat and Ben began the fight.
The clock kept ticking.................................and ticking.........................................and after a 2 hour 45 minute battle we had our first glimpse of it. A korker of a fish to be sure.
10 minutes later and we had Ben's prize on board. A fantastic fish. Lenghth 88" Girth 54"
Equation calculated the fish at 320lbs.
Ben has the bug now and will be trying for another one before the season comes to a close.
Ben on the right of the picture.
Super tight lines !!

Dean Parsons and 4 of his mates on the boat yesterday.
The lads from Easingwold had a cracking days sport working the rough ground between 3 and 8 miles from shore.
The lads were all baited up with fresh mackerel on the Hokkai traces and the cod and ling were loving it!!
With each drift producing up to 6 fish the lads soon had enough fish on board to warrant an hours mackerel fishing for the barbecues! We returned to the bouy where we'd had a great picking of mackerel in the morning to find .....................None !!!
Ah well that's fishing lads.
Richard Buffy is pictured with the best fish of the day. A lovely ling of 21lb 2oz.
When I told him that the fish would have won him £5000.00 a couple of weeks ago he nearly fainted !
The lads will be a back again soon.

The fairer sex sometimes join the lads for a days fishing on the Shy-Torque and this last week saw Theresa from Borough Bridge try her hand at it. She was fishing alongside her Dad David from Harrogate.
This was Theresa's first ever trip on a boat and it seemed that ( as is often the case ) that lady luck was shining down on her!
She boated the first couple of fish on the day. Not big fish by any means, but she was over the moon with them both.
She managed 4 fish before falling a little under the weather!
Theresa is pictured with a small pollack of just under 3lbs.

The cod fishing here at Whitby is getting better by the day with some good bags of fish for most of our anglers on the Shy-Torque.
The crystal clear water inshore now means that we are able to get a great days sport within minutes of leaving the harbour.
The 3 mile ground is now producing some lovely fishing with a good stamp of fish coming aboard most days now.
Richard Lodder and a couple of his mates from Chesterfield joined us the other day and enjoyed some great cod fishing on the boat.
Richard is pictured with one of his better fish.
