Well, it's that time of year again here at Whitby.

Tomorrow is the start of the Summer angling festival and the punters are queuing up for a slice of the massive prize money and rods and reels that are on offer.

The forecast is looking a little more settled than of late for the next few days so lets hope we can get some good fishing in for you all and try and catch you a fish that might be worth a whopping £5000.00 !!!

Good luck to all of you who are entering !!

Pictured is last years Summer competition winner John Wilcock with his 26lb ling caught aboard the Shy-Torque which won the £5000.00 1st prize. John is here again this year for the full 3 weeks hoping he can find the fish to get him his hat trick of £5000.00 wins!!!!!!! Good luck John !!!

Craig Welford and a few of his mates from Gala Casinos in Teeside joined us on the Shy Torque today.

Sadly the weather wasn't too good this morning, the wind blowing from the North yet again!! The fishing was a little slow to start but as the breeze slowly eased the fishing quickly increased!! The lads only turned up as a 6 team and unfortunately 3 of these fell victims to the old "mal de mer" !! After a couple of hours steady cod fishing the other 3 decided it only fair to return to port. What gentlemen !!!!!!!!

Yesterday we had our most regular sharking angler on board the boat. Rupert Drury from Terrington nr Malton North Yorkshire.
After doing 6 sharking trips already this year and seeing none, we were actually feeling quite confident yesterday morning as the weather conditions for the job were perfect.
We fished the grounds for 8 hours and only managed 1 run which happened around slack water. We weren't sure whether it was a Porbeagle run as the bait didn't show any signs of teeth marks. Usually the baits come back mutilated! Instead the bait was just to say scratched at the tail. We think maybe a tope had ran with it and spat it. Anyway another no show :-((((((( !!
Rupert decided to have a play around on the bottom for an hour with a speed jig whilst we waited and was rewarded with some cracking cod fishing. 32 cod to 13lb when we counted them. Not bad for a daft hour !!
The sharks will eventually turn up here at Whitby, but at the moment it seems they are still on their holidays!!

Steve Burrows and some of his mates from part of the Warwickshire Constabulary joined us the other day.

With the weather forecast being slightly against us for the afternoon we decided it would be in our favour to stay relatively close to Whitby and work the ground between the 5 and 7 mile with some great results on the cod!!

Best fish on the day was Steve's cod of 13lb which, unfortunately for my camera he filleted before I had chance to get a picture!! Think his mate got one though so I will post it up afterwards.

The Summer fishing is here lads and is superb at the moment !!

If you are fancying a day on the Shy -Torque III we are fully booked every day through June and only have a couple of days left in July.

In July, apart from ( 25th room for 9 ) and ( 31st room for 7 ) every other day is also fully booked so get your trips organised for August and September a.s.a.p so as to avoid disappointment !!

The September competition is filling quickly now. Dates for this comp are 8th - 23rd. There are big cash prizes on offer so get your places booked for a chance to win up to £1000.00 in cash !!

Wherever you're fishing lads lets hope it's as fruitful as Whitby is at the moment ! ! !

Gary Hurling and his team from Boston Unity SAC joined us again the other day and what a day it was !

The cod fishing here at Whitby is as good as it gets whether we are working inshore or distance at the moment.

We decided to start inshore and this is where we stayed for the day ( inshore being 2 miles off !! ) The lads all ending up with enough fish to keep them more than happy.

The mythological stories that the cod stocks in the North Sea are depleted are complete and utter ( excuse the pun ) "codswallop". Over the last 7 or 8 years the fishing here has become as prolific as ever.

Gary and the lads are pictured with just a few of their fish for the day.

It's COD COD COD galore at the moment here at Whitby!!!
It's like someone has switched everything on at last. Wherever we go we are finding them. The ground is fishing as well as anywhere at the moment from as close in as 4 miles out to the 9 mile areas.
I must admit that as we went a bit further today the fish definitely seemed to be getting bigger with cod on the 8 mile ground reaching a cracking 16lb!
Here's hoping the weather stays ok for us all and we can carry this on for a good while.
Have a great time wherever you fish lads.
    Rich.

Gary Hurling and 5 of his mates joined us today from Boston in Lincolnshire.
We started on a couple of inshore wrecks without much success as the breeze was from a NW direction. Pushing the boat along at over 2 knots it was far too fast! We worked a strip of ground next and found half a dozen small codling.
Far too slow (fish wise) so we pushed out to a wreck some 21 miles East of Whitby, by which time the tide had eased and so had the breeze. Bingo! A lovely 3 hours sport for the cod and ling. Nothing of any real size, the best cod going around 8lb and the best ling to around 9lb. Finishing off on another inshore wreck in the afternoon we managed another dozen or so cod to 7lb.
A great day out with great company. Cheers lads and we'll see you on your next trip.
    Rich.

A mixed bunch of lads joined us today aboard the Shy Torque for a great days sport.

The weather has really turned for the better at last and after the fog cleared mid morning the temperatures soared to 60 + !!! Hot for the East coast !!

First stop was a wreck 14 miles East of the harbour where we took around 20 nice cod to 8lbs. Next mark was a strip of ground where the lads pulled another 10 or so fish on board. A mixture of codling and ling on the ground. No monster ling unfortunately although one of the lads ( John Riggs ) did look to have something big on but sadly lost it. Riving and tearing!!!!!

Tomorrows lads are eager to sail and judging by the forecast who can blame them! Should be another flat calm day at Whitby fingers crossed.

Have a great day wherever you're fishing lads.

    Rich

South Yorkshire's Barnsley Fire Crew joined us today on the first of their 3 trips booked this year.
The fish were a bit patchy at first so we moved further off shore and found a few fish on a couple of wrecks. Not enough to keep us going though so we decide to target some wrecks closer to shore. The best wreck producing a dozen or so nice cod to 10lbs.

A fantastic day weather wise here at Whitby today. Lets all hope this is the start of Summer????????????
