No Cod today but the Dabs/Whiting has made up for it for Colin and camra shy Bernardo ran out side to begin with not much interest in our baits so came back in after tide started plenty of fish from anchoring up well done and have a great xmas bp

Its been a mixed week with 4 trips under our belt and 1 more to go we started off on Tuesday with Total Sea Fishing competion winners that were staying at Sunrise Chalets Kessingland,we ran off to the Newcome Bank to see if there were some decent fish showing as I haven't been out there for a while it was a bit lumpy stayed a couple of hours conditions got a bit worse we had a few Whitings & Dabs but no Cod decided to run inside a bit to the S/holm a few more Whitings and Dabs no Cod Showing on these outer marks yet, last 2hrs fished the Stanford channel loads of good sized Whitings & Dabs with yes you've got it a Cod coming in at just under 4lbs in prime condition well done you two and hope you had a safe journey back to Plymouth and Kingsbridge,
Wednesday Saw the boys from RAF Maraham fished off Corton today as reports were good for that area sat on the church mark till 13.00 with only 1 Cod showing but plenty of Whiting ran inside just off the beach approx. 300-400yds had 9 more Cod all around the 2lb-3lb size they were well pleased,
Thursday went straight to the N/Roads only a few Whiting today but one of them went just over 2lb what a lovely fish we had 4 Cod on the ebb and another 8 on the flood these fish were all around the 2lbish size,
Friday proved to be a change for the worse with only 2 Cod showing from snag ally and only 4 Whiting it was one of the most disappointing days I have endued for a long time considering what the trips had been like this week but that is fishing well done all and see you all again soon,bp -

The times are changing as the seasons as well our fishing marks are all so changing but we are still getting the goods all though the Cod that we are targeting are not showing as yet only a sprinkling of small fish but Whiting and Dabs are plenty in areas that we don't normally fish the last few trips we have had in excess of over 300 Whitings and 100 Dabs and 3 Rooker that we were not expecting,it wont be long now before the Cod start to show and when they do look out as we are 100% sure there will be some good sized fish coming to the boat this will give every one the boast we all need,bp.

I like to read. I find many useless words and sentences which make me think “Aha! I can use that!” Well, I have time to read when I’m on shift, lots of time in fact. I also get to see the sun come up and sometimes the caffeine is present just enough that I can put to sea, and like Beowulf I tend to do so with a fixed purpose.
Well, today was going to include sitting in a boat with a band of men. A small band, to be fair, Brian and I in fact but for someone normally alone in a kayak that’s enough of a band to suit a quote. The quest, as this was, was to find a large cod or winter roker from a bit further out, intercepting them on the way in. Kind of a game of roulette here, a gamble. We both have enough in the freezer for the time being so we could afford to be patient. For me I could go a lot further out than normal, chase the tide and sit out conditions that otherwise would have kept me inshore or even ashore. Not to mention only out for 3-4 hours. But I’m one of those simple-minded souls who’s always happy whatever as long as I have a rod in my hand.
Leave off work, exhausted, home, try to grab ten minutes, too excited, grab gear, bait, get changed, lock the door and down to the Yacht Club; in through the gate, down to the pontoons, engine warming up, kettle on, ropes off and away we go, out of the Yacht Club, out of the harbour and off to mark 1, out near the Southwest Holm. I’ve rigged up and baited up ready while Brian’s been ploughing through the swells, heading for where the fish might be.

We’ve got quite a mixture here, longshore herring and mackerel, both fresh, stale herring from the freezer, unwashed loligo squid, Lancashire black lug and two life yellowtail lug. They’re, umm, in reserve or something… I whack pennel out uptide and a wishbone across, 2/0’s baited with blacks and squid rings/heads, and drop a downtide pennel off the back. The water is running hard out here.

It’s ignored. It’s a nice keeper – a lot of them are out here, around the ¾-1lb mark as an average maybe – but no, something bigger is wanted. Not just by us though.

Surrounded we were, anywhere up to five seals around us at any one time during the day. They didn’t want our whiting – there’s plenty of those and herring around – they were just waiting for the same thing as us, cod.
With Brian in the lead I checked my rod; double shot on the wishbone. Again decent whiting but the flow was so quick I had the traces quite twisted. Better under 2 knots, those rigs. Still, it untwisted and went out again.

Next was Brian’s roker rod, his big roker rod. Head and guts sent downtide ona balloon…

Things were really picking up!!!
The tide slowed, we’d had plenty of decent whiting but not found our quarry so it was off now to the Three Mile Bank. The promised land where the spurdogs and tope had come in the summer, where the hounds and roker had been in numbers. The good fish come through here but what a nightmare when I tried it on the kayak, absolute nightmare, the depth and tide had me struggling and quite frankly it’s unlikely I’ll paddle out there again.

Well, we had more of the same; more good whiting, and I mean all the way through the day a few minutes apart, some tiny ones but mostly decent keepers, and more seals around us but we just couldn’t find a roker or cod this time. But that’s fishing, we tried.

Inshore the others were struggling too, two small codling from the roads, another further south from us so ahead on a safe bet but not by much. One last try perhaps, down to the South Holm where the ebb should be starting, slack having arrived out here…
Brian went out to drop anchor and noticed the wind – it had built up considerably. The sky had darkened, there was heavy rain in a few places around us on the horizon so we hung back and waited. Then it started to hammer down with no telling how long it would last; we came in.
You know, it’s marvellous to come in without having to make an effort after you’ve been busy all day; none of the up-anchor and paddle, wait for the surf to be how you want it, drag everything up the beach and the slope. Very genteel this way of fishing and I’ve rather come to love being spoilt! Just a quick wash and brush down of the deck and a bit of tidying up and we’re away. Part two to follow soon no doubt, will the cod join us?
Marvellous day, haven’t a clue how many fish we had all in though, but there was certainly a lot. -

Took Chris and his mates out today off the s/holm hoping for a Skate only Whitings and Dabs the Whitings were in abundance today on both tides with a fish every drop the Cod that we are targeting seem to be a bit elusive on the outer marks but when they do decide to turn up we will not be disappointed hope you enjoyed your day out on short notice I will be in touch as soon as they appear,Brian

Conditions were far from perfect with a n/w 4/5 increasing I tucked the boat under the Corton cliffs plenty of Whiting coming aboard but no small cod today lets hope with the coming weeks the Cod season will turn up the goods we had some good dbls last season and right through till June when we had the last Cod of 6lbs that was a turn up when we were fishing for Bass,dont forget the Heaviest Cod Competion has started for your chance to win £100 for a £2.00 entry, last year 13lb4oz took the money we run this to the end of May2014 good luck.

We finally got Gary and his party out left early to get the back end of the ebb off Corton as this seems to be the only place where there is a bit of fish at the moment all though they are a bit on the small side the best fish of the day went to Garys son Conner a nice Cod coming in at 3lb3oz we had another 7 smaller Cod all about the 1lb8oz--2lb plenty of Whiting as well and a couple of Dabs to make it a good days fishing,BP.

Had a run out Friday afternoon to find some herring they are a bit thin on the ground do to big tides plus we had a big fat seal going up and down the net chomping the herring that we had got,while we drifting for them we had 2 rods out drifting to see what we could get we were only in 15ft of water and were hooking whiting so that is worth a go/we had a go Saturday afternoon down the dreaded north roads plenty of whiting and a lot of small cod that we put back if they were lip hooked but we did manage 1 nice fish a Cod in at 6lb lets hope there will be some more bp

Ran off to the Newcome Bank as there are only small fish coming from close in but it proved to be much the same plenty of fish to keep the boys busy but not what we were looking for after 3hrs on the mark we deciced to come in a bit to the s/home area where there were still loads of Whiting and Spottys as well we could not find any decent Cod its still a bit early for them hopefully end of November when water temps drop a bit,BP.

I have been away for a few days on a short break I went Bass fishing out of Tenby very interesting but not so good as off LT, went 5/6/7th Oct had some mixed days plenty of small Whiting and Spottys to keep us occupied but only one Small Cod on Sunday well inside off the camp plenty of good sized Whiting inside as well it looks like they are in the shallows and not in our marks that we use for the winter,had a nice 4lb Bass on Monday off the bank but only a few small Whiting and Spottys lets hope that we get a better Cod season than last,BP.
