Today we managed to get amoung some nice fish. The day started with virtually no wind at all and stayed flat all day!
The biggest of the day was caught right at the end of the day on the last drop, luckily it took the daily prize for the biggest Cod in the uptide festival we're currently running here at Whitby.
Neil Dronsfield took the beauty which weighed in at 11lb after a faily hard day at sea, with bites being hard to come by. His pal Andy officer had been leading all day with another fine Cod of 9lb 9oz caught first thing this morning.
Andy also managed a respectable Ling of 8lb 8oz. The lads managed around 20 to 30 Cod today which was quite slow. Even so, the lads from Hull enjoyed their day out with us again.
We also saw our first Lesser Spotted Dogfish onboard Mistress today, we dont get many up here in Whitby so it was a welcome sight, and also puts the Mistress species count up another notch to 20!
Pictured is todays biggest fish of 11lb with its captor Neil Dronsfield, which won the lucky lad £50 for his efforts, well done mate

Uptide Competition so far . . .
I think its about time I wrote an update as Ive been a bit busy just lately with the current uptiding competition we're running here at Whitby. Even with the stiff winds we're still getting away fishing everyday with some fantastic results.
The first two days of the competition we had small tides and as a result the sport turned out to be a little slow with us only taking 20-30 codlings each day upto around 7lb or 8lb in weight.
The third day however saw a big jump in the size of the tides, this resulted in some excellent sport onboard Mistress, we took Cod over 10lb in weight (whick took the daily prize and is currently third heaviest Cod overall) and individual bags in excess of 57lb per angler. All fish caught seemed to be between 4lb-6lb with a scattering of better fish thrown in.
Today the big ones were a bit elusive, but the best angler onboard took 8 Cod all weighing between 3lb and 6lb, not a bad bag of fish at all. The biggest today weighed in at 5lb 12oz by local angler Andy Spilman and made the lucky chap £50 for his efforts. Well done mate.
Pictured is John Dixon winner of the 2011 uptide festival with his bag of cod weighing in at 57lb 10oz taken on the 12/11/12

It is with great pleasure I would like to announce that, this morning, I have finally received word that Daiwa have agreed to sponsor my boat Mistress. They are kindly giving us 12 rods and reels for our anglers to use. The sponsorship will start in January 2013. Id like to thank everybody involved who helped make this happen.
Cheers guys

1st week in November
The uptiding has certainly come on with a bang this week following the last big northerly. We have been experiencing some phenominal sport, seeing a good number of double figure cod, most of the catches have had good numbers of fish in the 5lb to 8lb bracket too.
There have been many new PB fish for the anglers onboard Mistress. I cant stress how good a quality the fish are in, all big fat bellies and firm flesh.
Some of the anglers have been taking up to a dozen fish home each for the day.
Im really looking forward to the upcoming Uptide festival, Im pretty confident we could see a fish in the 20's this year. I still have a few spaces left so book on to be in with a chance of winning £1000!
Its a pitty I cant add more than 1 photo to this report as there have so many good fish caught this week.
Remember folks all these fish were caught within a few hundred yards of land, we are usually fishing within 20 minutes of leaving port, there is no need to be flying off over the horizon with fish of this quality right on your door step.

Finally a break in the weather after the big northerly. Expectations were running high with the colour of the water like chocolate and the recent shore catches I had an inkling we might be in for a bit of sport today.
We steamed out to one of our local uptiding hotspots, and got the anchor down.
Litterally before I had had chance to bait up one of the lads was already in to a fish.
I got the fish netted and it seemed we couldnt go wrong! everyone was into fish, nothing massive all around the 3lb to 6lb mark.
We carried on until the tide eased and had a couple of moves, catching fish everywhere we stopped. With a hour or two of the day left we had one last move, and glad we did as we seemed to have a steady hour again boating around another dozen fish.
The anglers fished well today with a few different spiecies boated, including a lobster for Steve. The biggest fish of the day was around 7lb in weight, nothing huge but we had plenty of them!
Baits used included squid, black gulley worm, mussel and crab cart.

Not strictly a boat report here, but with the strong northerly storm we have just encountered here at Whitby, there has been some exellent shore caught catches.
The people who know me, will know Im a very keen angler and enjoy my shore fishing. I fished Friday, Saturday and Sunday, each day producing some lovely cod, the sea colour at the minute is like chocolate and the uptiding, as soon as we get out this week will be absolute dynamite, the fish will be feeding hard and confidently after the blow up.
Last night (Sunday) was our local club match, there were several fish weighed in between 6lb and 8lb and the biggest bag was well over 20lb in weight.
Dont miss the good fishing folks, get booked on this week for some Uptiding there is a better than average chance of some double figure Cod.
You dont have to book the boat, with us uptiding I will sail with a minimum of two anglers.
Tight lines

you really couldnt believe how different two days at sea could be.
yesterday saw us filling the boat with some really nice fish, they seemed to be jumping aboard! yet today we had to work alot harder for the fish we landed. everyone landed a few fish for the table.
It was a slow day but it was well worth the effort steaming off as we were rewarded with an absolute cracking Cod of around 18lb for Warren Bets. he fished the best today, landing around 6 different spiecies himself, including Cod, Ling, Pouting, Whiting, Plaice and Herring.

What a cracking day we had today!
With the tides being a bit lively still and the clarity not being exactly perfect, we decided on a run offshore to work the wrecks on the 20 mile stream.
The tide times werent perfect either so I got the crew gathered for a 630am sailing to get an extra hour of tide to help us on our way!
The first wreck yielded nothing! so we steamed a further 3 miles to our next wreck, Bingo! we fished steadily for a couple of hours, taking fish on all patterns and colours of shad and also squid. The bait took the better fish.
everyone onboard had some lovely cod to take home by the time we finished at our 2nd wreck.
With an hour or two left we moved to wreck nearby, and with a few drifts we had the fish boxes bulked out further, a couple of the drifts had Deano running round like a headless chicken with the net, with fish all around the 8lb - 9lb mark.
A good finish to the end of an already good days angling aboard Mistress

October 2012
We are still only half way through October I know, the weather has turned a bit now, but the fishing still remains good here at Whitby when we can actually get to sea.
The past couple of weeks the water inshore has coloured due to a few days of bad weather, meaning we have had to search futher afield for the fish. The days we have got offshore working the wrecks 20 miles + from Whitby, we have experienced some exellent days sport for the anglers aboard Mistress. The days have seen a rod average easily of 10-15+ fish per angler on the shads.
As the month draws on the weather may give us some bad conditions, the strong SW winds allow us to fish inside at anchor, boat casting for the cod. The shore fishing season has started now (being a keen shore angler I know what is being caught up and down the coast), there are alot of codling in the 2lb to 4lb bracket being caught and we are seeing fish approaching double figures also.
The uptide competition runs November 10th to 18th and Im sure we will see some cracking fish weighed in, there are still a few places available, please contact me on 07977 436 903 to secure your places, Mistress won the Uptiding competition last year taking 1st and 3rd place.
