    Report on-board Sweet William

Huge thanks to the lads for a run out today, with only 12 hours notice!

The weather this morning was calm, with a light breeze, incredible sunrise and flat seas. We were surrounded immediately by fins passing by on the way south, and then again as they headed back north shortly afterwards.

The fishing was slow but steady, with some nice codling coming aboard intermittently throughout the morning, and plenty of pan-sized whiting and big fat pouting for sport.

The wind began to pick up late morning, and by the time we reached slack water everything tailed off as expected.

We hauled anchor after a cracking day out to mark the first session this year, and headed for home shortly after lunch.

The First Mate bagged himself a nice brace of codling for his tea tonight, so he was pretty pleased with himself!

The bait of choice today were cocktails comprising monster cart wings from Billy's Fishing Tackle, squid and mackerel fillets.

We have availability this coming weekend 7th and 8th January 2023 (weather permitting); feel free to give us a call, or message, on 07740 706007 if you fancy a run out.

Catch report for Sunday 29th January newhaven.

Please follow share and like us on Facebook

Sunday morning was abit warmer than Saturday
The wether overcast and damp. Wasn't looking nice for the day. So meeting up with Octavian and his crew we decided to head to sea. First starting a drift for some plaice heading west we see some signs of bait fish so we stopped and all went down having 3 novice's onboard I knew it wasn't going to be easy.

So after the first couple of hours we ended up with I think 2 dabs 1 plaice and a handful of wighting so we decided to head out ABIT further this didn't work out as we stopped catching the flaties moving back closer to the shore we picked up a flounder a plaice and a few more dabs making it abit more worth while at this point the sea had decided to pick up to 0.7 MTRS so we headed east to seaford bay . Fishing quite close to shore for this effort we ended up with 1more dab

All in all not brilliant but it was a day at sea

To book a trip please message me on Facebook
    Or call me on 07896471691

When it comes to fishing in the winter knowledge is key
I learnt that from fishy rob out of Brighton.

With the tides being so big and the fishing being hard I knew I had to think out of the box. With that I put a crew together to go plaice fishing.

Not knowing what the outcome was going to be. In the morning I got the lads to meet up at #fortroadcafe for breakfast. Being that it was flat we was quite chilled on the time to set sail so we left at 9am quite a sivolised time. Heading out to sea I decided to tern left and headed out for an hour once we got to the mark what seemed like forever. We decided to anchor up fishing a standerd flatti rig with worm . As soon as we got there within seconds the first rod had gone with a double shot of plaice shortly followed with a few more. As the day went on the fishing started to drop off .

So with that I decided to move eaven closer to the beach .mind you we wasn't fish that far out to start with
After resetting the boat the fishing continued with some flounder's dabs and more plaice being caught

Total tally for the boat 23 plaice 17 keepers 2 Flounder and 15 dabs returned bringing us to over 40 flat fish for the day

On the way back out new team member James gutted all the fish with everyone tired and cold I knew my job was complete till the next time

  • 27/01/2023 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

27 Jan 2023 by Andy Savage

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

We had a bit of “Dogging” action down South today!!

After a bit of a Northerly blow yesterday, there was still a bit of residual swell hanging around this morning for our Uptiding trip. But with light winds, it wasn’t too bad for the great bunch of lads on board today.

We headed South, back to the same area we visited on Tuesday, hoping that there were still a few fish moving through. First drop of the anchor saw a few quick bites as normal, with Jonathan Stirrup taking the first Codling and Paul Bunce hammering the Doggies and Pouting! We don’t usually get many Doggies down South, but today, for some reason we had landed on the fishy equivalent of “Dogs Trust”!! Everyone got a few.

The actual fishing wasn’t as easy as usual with the swell, and detecting bites on the Squid & Black Lug hookbaits took concentration. As we ran into slack, the boat began to swing on the anchor #standard and it was a struggle for an hour or so. We had a short move to reposition and just as the Ebb Tide got going Gaz Richardson (who’d been having a Kip!) decided the time was right to drop….

After ten minutes or so, he had a cracking bite and what appeared to be a decent fish was begrudgingly brought up to the top. We weren’t to be disappointed either when we weighed in the lovely clean 9lb Codling.
Everyone caught Codling today, but nothing topped Gaz’s first day Uptiding Codling. When your names on it, it’s on it! Well done Gaz.

The time of year is right for a few of the bigger fish to make an appearance again. Don’t make the mistake thinking you only catch small fish Uptiding….Well done boys and thanks for your company today.

  • 25/01/2023 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

25 Jan 2023 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Last Mondays team of 5 chartered the boat for the day for an Uptiding trip.
John Bidwell, Jeff, Trevor, Colin and Charlie travelled over 6 hours from Southend on sea and Norfolk to fish with us!
The day was very slow to start out, with three moves on the Ebb tide resulting in around a half dozen fish landed.
Over slack water we ran 3 miles further up the coast to a little spot I like which occasionally produces a few on the start of the flood tide.
On arrival we were barely moving with a little of the slack remaining so the lads decided to have lunch and a cuppa and wait for the start of the flood.
After a glass of Merlot, Jeff and Colin chucked in for a daft go and clicked a couple of Codling straight away.
Hopefully a few more would show as the tide increased and sure enough, they did.
Over last hour of fishing they managed to boat a further 25 fish which saved the day nicely.
At one point John was getting a fish every throw which was encouraging.
30 plus fish in total for the day, which was a marked improvement on the last couple of days.
No big ones but a lovely day weather wise with some great conversations, stories and chuckles too!
Trevor taking the best fish at 5lb 6oz and John taking the best bag.
Great to meet you all lads and hopefully see you again soon.
    Cheers
    Rich
I have room tomorrow (28th) and will sail with just 4 anglers for an Uptiding trip.

  • 24/01/2023 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

24 Jan 2023 by Andy Savage

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

What a difference 24hrs makes…….. After a tough couple of days fishing; today we managed to get amongst a few fish again.

With an experienced group of anglers on board, I was confident that if the fish were feeding and I got us on them, the lads would definitely catch them. We headed south on the Uptiding grounds, but unlike yesterday’s very blustery start; today wasn’t too bad at all. Conditions weren’t perfect, but they were good enough. I hadn’t even had chance to make everyone a brew before the first Codling started coming up. Ian Purdom and Jimmy Yeung both took fish almost immediately.

That set the tone for the rest of the Ebb Tide. We picked away nicely with mainly Codling, but an odd Pouting and Doggie also made an appearance. Early on in the trip, Martin Novo took the biggest Codling of the day at 6lb 4oz. We only moved twice during the Ebb, which made a pleasant change! The bites kept on coming at regular intervals. We had one strange occurrence when Ian Purdom got a slamming bite and his 40lb trace line was bitten through (possibly a decent Ling).

Tony Barrett had his first fish taken by a seal, and proceeded to tussle with it for a few minutes before incredibly he got the fish back and it was still good enough to fillet! Usual baits of Squid and Black Lug dominated today, so no need to change what’s not broken. As the tide eased, we started to swing around on the anchor, but for a change the bites kept coming, so we stuck it out. We just held the rods and paid off line to keep the baits still.

The Flood Tide came through and we had a reposition after it went a bit quiet. Tony Barrett took advantage of a flurry of bites and took the “Top Rod” title for the day, with a lovely bag of Codling up to 5lb.

I really enjoyed myself, the day flew by. It was good fishing in brilliant company.

Thanks everyone for a top day out.
