This morning, there was hardly a breath of wind and when we left the harbour the sea was like a mill pond. The fog began to thicken as we headed for the first wreck. After picking up mackerel for bait, we had a go for a few Cod and picked up a couple of small ones, which were returned for another day. There was some decent size coal fish taken in the same spot. We travelled to some wrecks beyond the 10 mile and found a better stamp of fish. The skipper, Tony, had a good day and pulled up a decent Ling around the 8lb mark, followed by a nice haddock. It's good to see them being landed more frequently. Hopefully, the stocks are starting to make a bit of a recovery in the area. Fred, a regular onboard, caught a decent Pollock, about 5lb. Best bait on the day was mackerel used with hokkais. When the sun did break through the fog, it was roasting onboard. All in all, a good days fishing.

There’s never two days alike in this game!
Yesterday’s crew dropped dead lucky with the fishing and the weather.
We sailed with just 6 of them after being let down by 4 other anglers and they all agreed to put a little more into the kitty for fuel so as to try and get out of the tide a little.
First stop produced around a dozen fish with a mixed bag of species.
The second stop produced for around 3 hours steady with a couple of double hookers too, which basically rounded the day off perfectly.
Baited rigs fishing the best without doubt.
Great crack all day and some really excellent wreck fishing.
Cheers lads, I really enjoyed the day with you all.

Scratched around all over again yesterday for a bare picking.
Plenty of Mackerel to start the day as usual, then out to a tiny wreck 3 miles off to drop on slack water.
I thought we’d cracked it on the first drop when 6 fish came up immediately with a double up of Codling for Nick Ball too! Young Oscar from Richmond took a nice little Ling at 5lb 4oz which he was well pleased with. Two or three more drops on it proving fruitless really with just another 3 or 4 more fish. Total tally for the day, around 20 fish.
After the tide got running that was it really and we scratted around for a very odd fish here and there.
As I mentioned in my previous report, the amount of herring in the water here at Whitby at the moment is mad. We took a Codling yesterday which came up with a full herring hanging out of its mouth! The amount of feed this time of the year always makes things a little slow for us. This is why it’s called “fishing” and not “catching!”

Well the decent stamp of bass has increased again several most trips between 2-5lb with the odd better one to 8lb!!
all the fish have been local on the lures & worm baits. Bass is our main target until the season ends midd November its prime time now,
I Will have to start pushing further offshore as temperatures drop but we have plenty of time local yet now the betters ones are showing,
But please remember further offshore trips are longer days & cost a bit more
Unfortunately fuel isn’t free
but most of you know me by now always chasing them Bass especially on the lures!!!
October is when it really kicks off offshore with the numbers & sizes increasing even more worm lives baits, squid but lures normally do really well
Been a great summer weather & fish wise lets hope autumn is the same

I thought I would do a quick update with my availability for the next couple of weeks. I know some of you may wish to make the most of the last of the school holidays and the nice weather. I have no spaces after this until October.
We have continued to see smooth-hounds, baby tope and some chunky bass on our general trips as well as lots of schoolie bass at times. The offshore bass fishing continues to be productive too.

If I said that yesterday’s trip was anything but poor I’d be lying!
We went around all our local haunts, in, out, up and down and they simply weren’t having any of it!
The mixed group of lads boating around 15 fish between them that’s all with probably as many chuck backs too. Best fish falling to Paul Ashbridge from Lanarkshire, Scotland with a nice Codling of 7lb.
The amount of feed in the water off Whitby at present is bonkers with every member of the local seal population out hunting, along with Minky Whales too. A great time for spotting wildlife at present!!
The herring shoals are colossal in places and this is the main reason the fishing going quiet at times, as the natural food source for the fish is abundant!
Nevertheless, we will keep battling on as always.
