Sunday 3rd July fishing report. So Sunday saw very bad wether and high seas.but in true pirate fashion we we're at sea. Sunday's crew wanted something different so we went tope fishing.startind our day off we left the harbour around 9am heading to a mark known for its tope.on the way out I was doing my daily live feed #kestrelwarriorfishingtv on tiktok. once we got to the mark we started off by fishing for mackerel. once we had enough mackerel we started to go for the tope and once they started I think we had 3 hookups at the same time. after about an hour the Anker tripped so we had to reset but the second time down I lost my Anker for a silly reason I wasn't watching what I was doing. so after that fail we decided to go close to shore and fish for bass. but one of the crew was very green so we went in I said to the lads I would do a free trip as the fishing trip went very wrong they were happy with that and rebooked sometimes we as skippers need to do this to show we are not out to rob people.

There continue to be some great hounds and bass showing lately. The hounds are in big numbers at times and really keeping us busy. There have been a lot of small fish around but if you kiss a lot of frogs there seems to be the occasional prince among them. Most days have seen hounds into double figures which livens things up in between the smaller fish. a few decent bass showing most days too and they soon get the skipper reaching for the net. Many of our trips have seen small tope showing too, these vary from just born to 7-10lbs on our general trips and have been quite numerous at times. Also a bit of a pain for biting through hook links! Our offshore trips are the best bet for the bigger fish and I still have a few spaces on these including this week
One or two rays are still showing along with a few dogfish and whiting here and there. Other species will turn up too.
I only have a few spaces left on tope trips this year including some this week on Wednesday (6th) and Thursday (7th). If you are interested then please get in touch on 07956411528

Catch report from today 6 hour trip

We started the trip running off to our inshore wrecks and the anglers manged to catch half a dozen codling around 3lb as well as a few pouting whiting and mackerel after a few hours the winds rapidly increased and the drift became really fast.
So we decided to run inshore and go back to basics with downtiding, fishing was steady with a good amount of codling been caught again around the 1lb to 3lb area and a few pollock aswel.
Best fish today was a 7lb cod closely followed by a 6lb pollock. -

Saturday was one of those days that I really didn’t fancy taking people out in. Moderate westerlies hampered where we could fish (most of the day was spent fishing under the cliffs). However, Colin Clarke from Grantham had his annual mates trip booked and really wanted to go out and try, regardless.
We ran up north and spent much of the morning drifting the Uptiding grounds from Upgang up to Staithes. Periodically we found pockets of small Codling which mostly fell to baited feathers, small Hokkai’s or Sabiki’s.
At slack water we pushed out to a wreck a mile off land, and with the lines streaming, we picked up a few more fish. The biggest Codling of the day came just as the Ebb tide got away at 6lb 2oz. It was hard work, but everyone caught.
Today saw much lighter winds, so we pushed out a bit, concentrating mainly on the rough ground and wrecks in the 3-5 mile stream. We had a couple of drops for Mackerel, and finally got a good few strings coming up; bait sorted.
The flood tide wasn’t too bad, with a nice picking of Codling and strap Ling coming to Hokkai’s baited with Mackerel and Squid or bait traces. We had to endure a lot of tangles every drift (not using enough lead) and most fish came up tangled in someone else’s line, which cost us a lot of fishing time during the day. Top rod by some margin was Tony Firman who put together a really decent bag of fish; a very tidy angler indeed.
Everyone got a few to take home, and it was a nice day out overall. Thanks lads.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

A complete difference to the fishing yesterday with the winds finally easing enough to run offside.
Today baited traces seamed to fish the best we did manage to get a few fish on lures and shads but baited seamed to be deadly for cod today.
We had a few ling, pollock and coalfish but the majority of today catch was cod and codling. -

There have been some great bass coming out lately. These bristling bars of silver are always popular to catch and sort after for the table too. Although some of the best sport we have with these will be on our offshore trips they are great fun to catch any time. Some fresh rag worm is a great help on our general trips and will pick up other species too like those hard fighting smooth-hounds.

Honey Gage has a knack of finding the big fish and there seems to be no exception when it comes to bass. Honey has caught the biggest so far this season with a lovely chunky bar of silver. Although big bass can turn up at any time, they often show up on our tope trips at this time of year. They seem to be a more popular for of by-catch than dogfish for some reason? I only have a few spaces left on tope trips this year including some this week on Wednesday (6th) and Thursday (7th). If you are interested then please get in touch on 07956411528
