    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

It was like winding the clock back 25 years for our 2 lads yesterday.
Bob and Richard chartered the boat for themselves and were treat to some superb fishing.
The weather and conditions were perfect and the Cod were hungry too!
We used the start of the flood tide and steamed for an hour to a couple of wrecks which hadn’t been touched for a while and from the off they were straight into fish.
They were knocking the Cod out on the bait and I worked the Shad all day, which also worked well.
The two bits of scrap provided a great days sport for the 2 lads who were over the moon with their catch.
My son and crewman Charlie and his girlfriend had a ride out with us too. This was Alana’s maiden trip and as usual Lady Luck played her part as she took the best Cod of the day at a shade over 11lb
Plenty of good chunky Cod boated too.
    A fabulous day for all.
    Cheers
    Rich

Great trip today plenty smoothounds no double figures unfortunately. Usual whiting and spotty dogs plus few small dabs nice to see obviously dodged the seals! Was nice to see few bass today been waiting a while for them to show up to be honest. Finished the day off inside picked up a thornback more whiting was a most enjoyable day. Big thanks to Kev and his crew look forward to next one.

  • 21/06/2022 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

Great day out today, with a great bunch of boys. It was the first 14hr trip of the year and thankfully the fishing wasn’t bad at all.

Heading off just before 4am we got a cracking sunrise as we made our way out to fish some wrecks in the 20 mile area. We arrived at our first wreck an hour before slack water, just as the Ebb tide began to ease.
First drift saw five rods into some lovely clean Codling, which set the pattern for the next hour. The average size was good, with a fair few fish over 6lb with Jim Lister taking the biggest Codling at a shade over 9lb.

Just on slack water Sammy the Seal got up for breakfast and was clearly harvesting the bounty down there, as we saw him come up with two decent fish. It was no surprise that the action tailed off, so we moved on.

Next wreck turned out to be even better, with eight rods in on the first drift! Again, some lovely Codling with a good average size. Jim Lister lead the way again, taking a fish a drift including a lovely clean 10lb 8oz Codling.
Everyone took fish today, bait traces with Muppets and Squid dominated, but Simon West also got a good few Codling and a Pollock on Shads.

The morning was certainly more productive than the afternoon, but we took fish off every wreck we visited, which was pleasing. Not too many Ling today, with a fish of around 5lb being the biggest. I really enjoyed today, let’s hope things continue in this pattern for the coming days as the tides ease.

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

Today we did a slow jig and surface popping day with a bit of Plaice and Turbot drifting over slack water, the 1st mark was not productive so we moved on and immediately hit Bass on the slow jig rods, every time a fish was landed we changed jigs to test colours , shapes etc and still caught Bass best one falling to Sean a very nice fish of 7lb. Biscay minnows also accounted for lots of fish and a bonus Ray. As the tide eased we changed to fresh baits and landed Turbot, Plaice, Dogs and small Tope then as the tide started to ebb we went into the shallows and drifted using surface poppers and free lined lures to great success landing plenty of small Pollack, Wrasse and the odd Bass. In all a bloody good fun day with lots of fish, the next slow jig / popping day will begin September if you fancy it please keep an eye on my website as the date will be posted there.
    Tight lines
    Phil
