    Report on-board Kestrel warrior

So today I had Tony and the gang onboard and I have to say it was an extremely hard days fishing.
Firstly, we was ment to catch smoothies but ended going on a species hunt
We started off the day heading west in search of smoothies, but when we got to the first mark it was made apparent that the wind would quickly be the death of the smoothound trip. We weren't able to get a straight line at anchor. Infact we sat beam on to the sea witch made fishing impossible. After the first hour we did manage a couple of species, dabs /dogs, gurnard and mackerel. It soon died so we decided to go abit futher out hoping that the tide would push us round. How I was so wrong!
As we got offshore we put the anchor down next to a wreck. We managed some pout Pollock and weaver fish off the wreck and then decided to come back in to see if we could catch some bream. This was worse off then where we was at anchor, Moving back to our original spot to catch bugger all. After sitting in nearly 2mtr swells all day I said to the lads we would try for some plaice close to shore. we headed to the break water for some cover but with no joy just sitting meters from the Habour entrance with no where to hide. We cut the trip short and headed for home. 7 species isn't bad I suppose, but it was such hard work. There's always a next time.

  • 12/06/2022 Fishing Report by Peter Mackintosh on Mistress (Tyne, Tyne and Wear)

12 Jun 2022 by Peter Mackintosh

    Report on-board Mistress

An absolute belter of a days fishing aboard Mistress.
We searched for mackerel, for bait, early morning but struggled to land half a dozen.
We set off to try a couple of wrecks, but there was a stiff west-northwest wind blowing which made conditions difficult, so we ventured inshore to fish the hard ground. As soon as we dropped the bites started ; it was non stop sport all day. Baited green squid lures, green hokkais and daylites accounted for most of the fish. Best baits were prawns and mackerel strip. Most of the fish were around the 2lb mark, and all cod, with some decent ones mixed in. Mistress regular, Fred, got the better stamp, up to about 6lb. All the just over size ones were returned, but as you can see in the photo, we all finished still ended the day with a lot of fish. Thanks for a fantastic day Tony.

  • 12/06/2022 Fishing Report by Nick Gough on Skylark (Scarborough, North Yorkshire)

12 Jun 2022 by Nick Gough

    Report on-board Skylark

Some of the fish caught on today's trip

Fishing seamed steady away nearly all trip with each mark producing a good mix of fish.

The lads today managed to get a good mix of species, codling, pollock, coalfish, ballen wrasse, pouting, scorpion fish, and a lessor spotted dogfish.

Throughout the day we tried feathers, tubes hokkais, shads, slow jigs on the drift.

As the wind picked up and the drift became way to fast we went back to basics and anchored up for some uptide and downtide fishing. which today seamed to be alot more productive with squid and lugworm been the preferred bait.

We also tried crab cart, peelers, mackerel, sandeel but these didnt seam to be the prefered choice today even though all the cod caught were full of soft back crabs.

Nice to see a good amount of size fish returned to fight anouther day.

  • 01/06/2022 Fishing Report by anthony collins on Kestrel warrior (Eastbourne, East Sussex)

1 Jun 2022 by anthony collins

    Report on-board Kestrel warrior

So yesterday we had a birthday party on board lovely bunch of kids. First port of call was for me to stop off at #toolsandtackle in Newhaven where I picked up some snakes. my god I've never seen ragworm like it needless to say they were good. After seeing Sam I popped down to the boat. Meeting with Paul at #fortroadcafe this was the meeting point for my crew. We got to know eachother up by the café one of the kids think his name was cass said about catching mahi mahi so I new right then I had alot to prove. Once aboard I gave a quick breif and we was off to our first spot. Thaught I would give it ago on the lures. And it was quickly aparant it was going to be utter Chao's. After loosing quite a few lures and snapping a rod I decided enough was enough and managed to go onto the sand.this was also a wrong moove as we where all getting in a muddle and tangle's Galore. Me being a good sport I took it all In my stride.

After all of the mess and Chao's I decided that I had to do something very simple yet very much pleasing. So after thinking to myself what I would do if I was a kid I had a brain wave and thaught about what #brightoninshorefishing fishy rob has told me. So with that I moved to a little bit of very basic fishing and bingo we had hit the jackpot. Fish after fish started coming over the side. We started off catching some pout but then bream plaice dabs small Pollock that all started to come over the side of the boat. Apart from all the loss of tackle seeing those kids face's light up made it all worthwhile for me.

This is why I love my job

  • 10/06/2022 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

10 Jun 2022 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Regular anglers on the boat yesterday and what a day they had on the Cod!!
Starting on a wreck a couple of miles from the harbour entrance the lads were straight into the fish on the baited rigs and the Shads.
We decided that wreck hopping was the order for the first two or three hours with the breeze over the tide and holding us steady on the drift.
The next couple of wrecks throwing another dozen or so fish out.
After the flood tide bent through and the breeze still with us and at the back of the tide we tried some ground/reef marks and they fished well too, the lads taking another 20 plus fish.
The numbers were gathering very well indeed.
We finished the day on a tiny bit of scrap that only a couple of the skippers here have and took another dozen or so from that.
Paul from Brid and Dave Sharp were top rods today, the pair of them taking around 30 fish between them! Good fishing lads.
The rest of the crew taking some lovely bags of fillets home for the table too.
No whoppers but nice Ling to 9lb 6oz and Cod to 7lb.
A fabulous day with the weather, company and the fishing.
Cheers lads and see you all again soon.
