Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
Tom Mycroft booked the boat today for family and friends. With a big 5.5m tide Uptiding was the order of the day.
View Boats Page
We caught the last couple of hours of the Ebb tide and picked off a few Codling. Nothing exceptional, but there were a fair number of bites.
Once the flood tide got away the bites came again, but this time Jed managed to find a better size Codling of 6lb. Unfortunately we had no Black Lugworm on board today, which I’m certain would have put a few more fish in the boxes and something I would definitely recommend for anyone coming Uptiding.
The chat and banter continued all day and the hours flew by. A really nice day out in good company.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Report on-board Shy-Torque III
We managed a run out yesterday with a mixed group of lads. To be fair it wasn’t the best of days condition wise but the lads were keen enough to give it a try.
View Boats Page
Uptiding was the order of the day with the tide running strong on a 5.7m.
The first stop proved fruitless with just a couple of Codling caught so we had a move a bit further up the coast and found a few more for the lads.
No great shakes but some good banter throughout the day.
Dale from Consett, County Durham on his maiden trip on a boat, was well pleased when he landed his first ever fish, a lovely 6lb Codling. A big well done to him.
Thanks for sailing with us lads and hopefully see you all again soon.
The weather predictions for this week look fabulous with very light winds, so if you fancy a run out just give me a bell.
Cheers
Rich

Fishing Report by Simon Logan
on Deep Blue (Eastbourne, East Sussex)
16 Mar 2022 by Simon Logan
Report on-board Deep Blue
The first annual ‘Eastbourne Spring Challenge’ match fishing comp took place on Wednesday across two boats and featuring 13 anglers. The anglers were of mixed abilities, with some in the current, and previous England home nations fishing team in attendance.
View Boats Page
Given the time of year, and the conditions in the build up to the comp, there was a very respectable quantity and range of species brought over the gunwales. Fish over 18cm’s scored, with fish in groups of 1 point fish (inc whiting/pouting), 3 point fish (inc wrasse/dabs) and 5 point fish (inc rays/bass).
Over the 7 hour timeframe well over 400 fish were landed on deck. The fish weren’t weighed, but they were checked for length. Dogfish made up the bulk of the catches, but dabs, plaice, thornback rays, whiting, smooth hounds and a couple of unwanted guests (spider crabs) made up the numbers. The fishing grounds used were that of the Pevensey Shoals and inshore close to Hastings. Fishing at anchor over mud clay and shingle with rocky pinnacles framing the fishing zone was the ground of choice.
We provided the bait packs to the anglers which consisted of mackerel, lug and squid. 3 hooks maximum were allowed. The weather was grey overcast skies and relatively light easterly winds. High tide was at 10am so most of the fishing happened on the ebb, but lots of bites during slack water.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Deep Blue

Some settled weather at last!
View Boats Page
Yesterday was our first trip out for a while after the boat being clear of the water for a couple of weeks whilst she had her 5 yearly out of water survey.
A mixed group of lads joined us for the day and we decided to have a run offshore as the tides were easy.
The first wreck produced around a dozen fish to keep which was ok. After that it went completely downhill and the remainder of the trip saw just 3 more fish boated!
Regular lad Bill Barraclough taking the best Codling at 5lb.
A change of approach on our next trip where we will be doing some more Uptiding as the tides start lifting again.
Cheers
Rich

Report on-board Galloper
There have been steady numbers of roker coming in over the last few weeks. There are still plenty of fighting fit spring males there and a few big girls mixed in too.
View Boats Page
With plenty of fish around we don’t have to worry about loosing many days to weather for a while. We have seen some busy fishing at times and as ever the occasional surprise aboard the Galloper.
The other Day Andy was playing a decent female ray to the boat and as she surfaced we could see why she was fighting so hard. She wasn’t alone and in fact had a male ‘attached’ to her. I have seen this several times before over the years and normally as they hit the surface the male lets go and swims off leaving her to face the music. However this time they surfaced right next to the boat and I was able to net both fish at once. I have had double shots of roker before and even a treble shot (after a few attempts) after being challenged to do so by fellow skipper John Rawle to do so. This however is the most roker I have seen boated on a single hook rig!
Another nice surprise this week was when Kev caught the first inshore hound of the year. We have had quite a few offshore where they can be caught all year round but this was the first one inshore and quite close to home too. She was a nice fish of around 7-8lbs which explained the lively scrap she put up on the way in.
The weather looks good for the week ahead and I have spaces Friday (18th) and Saturday (19th) @ £60pp if you are interested then please get in touch.

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
A group of mates booked the boat today for an uptiding trip. Having had a bit of a stir up yesterday, we were unsure what would await us today.
View Boats Page
We had a late start to let the wind and lift fall away a bit and then the lads got stuck in. Quite a few of them were more geared up for wrecking and rough ground fishing; using Hokkai’s etc. which resulted in more Pouting being caught than Cod initially.
A couple of lads then took the advice I offered and changed over to my rigs, and first cast one of them landed a 7lb 4oz Codling….result! After that most people switched over to uptiding rigs which saw a fair few Codling in the 2-3lb bracket come up as the Ebb Tide dropped away.
We had a move at slack water in readiness for the Flood Tide getting away and just as it started another 7lb Codling was picked up (on my hire rigs). It’s really important to use appropriate rigs. Tiny hooks and thin line are not ideal for the rough snaggy terrain we fish and breakaway leads are essential for uptiding.
I always want to try and help people as much as I can, to ultimately catch them more fish. Hopefully the lads learnt a few things today to add to their armoury for their next uptiding trip. Thanks boys, I enjoyed having you on board.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Well that was a great day for ducks….my webbed feet are coming along nicely!! We started in the rain, ended in the rain and for most of the day…..you guessed it; it rained!! We had a group of mixed abilities on board today and the fishing conditions were really quite challenging.
View Boats Page
The forecasted NW wind was a fair bit stronger than advertised and gave a bit of lift first thing on the Ebb tide. First stop and first drop saw Richard Wheatley bring up 4lb 8oz Codling and we thought we’d pick a few more off. Unfortunately not, so after a quiet half hour, we relocated to a weedy gully as the tide began to ease.
This proved to be a good move as in fairly short order Simon West landed Codling of 8lb 4oz and 6lb 8oz, and Charlie Hewitt also landed one of 8lb. The fish fell to the usual Squid and Black Lug cocktails. We picked away for the remainder of the Ebb and then to be fair, the fishing became hard.
A big flood tide saw just a handful of Codling landed after dinner, but the boys persevered and remained in great spirits despite the dismal weather. I think we were all ready for home today. We got the quality again, but not quite the quantity I would have liked. But that’s why we call it fishing, not catching. Well done everyone, thanks for a good day out and see you next time.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl
