Report on-board Galloper
The last couple of months have been hard work at times inshore. A large influx of sprats moved in around mid-January and along with unsettled temperatures this stopped a lot of the fish feeding. However, we have plucked away and found a few thorn-back rays, whiting, dogfish and flatties to keep us occupied. We had a nice surprise the other week when Barry snuck out a coalfish in under 10ft of water. This certainly wasn’t what we expected and livened up the day for us. I hate the thought of missing out on good fishing so I like to get out once or twice a week to see how the fishing is doing. unfortunately we lost the best part of two weeks to the series of storms that ran through causing havoc. Thankfully by the time the weather had broken we got back afloat to find the fish to be feeding again. The last few trips have been producing good numbers of rays, dogfish and whiting for us. there are plenty of males ideal for the pot and some cracking big females ready to lay their eggs (obviously returned).

Pictured are Billy-Roy and his Dad Carl who found plenty of rays feeding the other day, as ever Billy-Roy had the most fish with several double shots of whiting and some dogfish too.
At this time of year as the sun get higher in the sky and temperatures rise, the fish are feeding and us skippers have most of our job done for us. I would expect thorn-back rays to be our main target inshore for the next few weeks or more. We have already seen a few hounds showing in places so it will only be a matter of time before these, along with the bass move in too. I have a few spaces this weekend and later in the month so get in touch if you fancy a trip out aboard the Galloper.

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
What a brilliant day out we had today with some good friends on board. With the recent poor weather, it’s been a while since we’ve had a nice day out with good conditions, but today was the day.

A boat booking for four anglers meant there was loads of room on board and we headed out for a days uptiding in much better tides. First stop as the Ebb Tide was just easing down saw a few small Codling and a Lobster make an appearance.
As we ran into slack water, the boat started to swing on the anchor (#standard) and the bites tailed off. We took the opportunity to have a move and got the boat set again, just as the Flood Tide got away.
Then, as is often the way when the tide turns; it was like somebody had flicked a switch and the bites started to come regularly.
We managed both quantity and quality today. Top rod was Tony Barrett who took 16 Codling up to 4lb 8oz. Ian Kellock did what Ian Kellock does and winkled out a brace of “8 Pounders” among his fish!!
Even the Skipper managed an “8 Pounder” as well. It turned out to be quite a productive spot, which we persevered with for the remainder of the day. We all had a fair few to take away today.
Squid and Black Lug accounted for the majority as normal. A great day spent in great company. Thanks boys…….UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
After yet another lengthy lay off with poor weather, we took advantage of falling winds yesterday, to have an afternoon/evening uptiding session.
View Boats Page
The tides are still on the small side, which gave a few problems around slack water with the boat swinging on the anchor, making presentation difficult at times.
The fishing was far from exceptional, but there were a few fish coming up at intervals. The Ebb tide was more productive than the flood and it was the usual Squid and Black Lug that did the majority of the bites.
Tony Barrett was top rod, picking away nicely with mainly small Codling. He used a block of homemade “mussel cart” with his squid and lug to help increase attraction; which certainly seemed to pay off.
It looks like we are finally getting some steady weather next week, along with rising bigger tides, which will allow us to put a few days fishing together. I have the following availability for anyone who fancies a day out uptiding.

Quick update

The thornback numbers are increasing finally
We Boated around 20 odd to 12lb offshore the other day not massive numbers i know but its a start finally!
We also had plenty rays inshore on an short evening trip last week so they are starting to move inshore too a good sign.
All fish took herring baits & the good thing is using herring is the spurdogs love it too.
Spurs are being reported in good numbers offshore to the east so if you want to pay to punch further to the east for some spurs let me know.
Its a good sign that the spurs could on the way we will just have to wait and see but hopefully it will be as good as last season spurdog run!
Its Not long and the Hounds , Bass, Tope will be here before you know it.
The forecast looks very poor as im sure you have all have seen the storms are upon us & i doubt any boats will get out any time soon NOT good for any charter skipper.
Call 07523488290 or follow me @dawntidecharters for availability but i will say theres only limited availability left during the summer its looking busy & im looking forward to another great season thanks everyone stay safe -

Fishing Report by John Peck
on Lady Margaret (Poole, Dorset)
Jan 2022 by John Peck
Report on-board Lady Margaret
After a very unsettled start to the month/ year the weather settled down allowing some fishing trips in very pleasant conditions.
View Boats Page
The main target were whiting and they were around in big numbers. There were still a few big 2lb+ channels around but not as many as the excellent fishing of mid December.
Despite it being the middle of winter we saw a nice variety of species coming aboard including bass, small eyed and spotted rays, pouting, congers, dogfish and even a long Spined Sea Scorpion which attacked a bait as big as itself! -

Report on-board Lady Margaret
This month saw the arrival of the winter fishing. The whiting have been slow to arrive this year with just a few landed up to December.
View Boats Page
However, some more settled weather in the middle of the month saw some great fishing. There were lots of whiting around of a good average size with plenty in the 2lb+ class.
Along with the whiting there were blonde, undulate and small eyed rays along with congers and dogfish. There were also a few squid around.
Unfortunately the unsettled weather came back again after Christmas preventing any more trips. -
