This year’s Summer angling competition ended last weekend and the lads who fished on the Shy-Torque III weren’t disappointed.

Dave from Huddersfield was holding 1st place for a short time with a nice Ling of 15lb 06oz which he caught on the 3rd July.
Paul from Bridlington then took the lead with another nice Ling of 15lb 13oz on the 8th July which held the lead through to the end.
Chris from Skirpenbeck, who won the Spring competition with us, took the heaviest Cod prize on the very last day of the competition with a nice fish of 9lb 06oz.
Prizes were :- 1st overall - Paul from Bridlington winning £1000.00
2nd overall - Dave from Huddersfield winning £500.00
Heaviest Cod - Chris from Skirpenbeck winning £250.00
A great event yet again for all concerned and I’d just like to thank all those who fished with us this year.
Paul is pictured inset with his winning fish.
The September competition starts here in Whitby on the 11th September and runs for a fortnight where there will be another £1000.00 first prize up for grabs!
Cheers and tight lines,

Report on-board Mistress
A fantastic day aboard Mistress. After picking up mackerel for bait, we headed off to the wrecks with not much drift early on. We picked up the odd fish but after a couple of hours moved onto the hard ground which fished a lot better with an improvement in drift. Shads fished well to start but daylites baited with prawn and mackerel proved the best. New to boat fishing, Harry, (pictured) who had travelled from Stanhope, managed to bag a few nice cod. He picked up filleting very quickly and was filleting mackerel like pro by the end of the day.

Today saw the first of the 14hr Sea Urchin trips take place. The original plan had been to run off to wrecks in the 30 mile range to try and extract a big fish or two. But after a great days fishing inshore yesterday, the lads agreed that it would be better to stay inside, rather than risk a monster steam out to distant wrecks, which may well end badly. So we just fished a bit longer, inshore!
It proved to be the right choice, as we had a brilliant day, with far more fishing than travelling. All the lads were seasoned anglers and got stuck straight in. Catching Ling into double figures, a good stamp of Codling and a handful of nice Pollock.
Top rod today certainly went to Jamie (who crews on Sea Urchin), when he chose to spend his day off fishing!! He caught consistently from the off and ended up landing a new PB Cod of 20lb 4oz. What a result.
Everyone caught plenty of fish from the wrecks we visited, but yet again, the ebb was better than the flood. Squid once again dominated the captures, but mackerel and shads still produced a few. Hopefully the great fishing will continue for a while yet.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Great weather, great company and great fishing……. They say the sun always shines on the righteous and today it certainly did.

It was one of those days where the water was clear, the winds were light, the tides were good; which led to the fish feeding well for us all day. We stayed inside on the inshore wrecks and fished half a dozen of them throughout the day and they all produced a good picking of fish for us. We had Ling to just shy of 11lb, Cod of a good average size (4-5lb) up to 8lb 8oz and everyone took plenty of fish home.
Although we had caught some Mackerel for bait, which did account for numerous fish; whole squid on a pennel with a muppet had the edge. We also took a couple on Rhubarb and Custard Shads.
All in all a quite excellent day. Wish they were all like this!! Well done boys, great angling today.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

After yet another period of inconsistent weather and fishing (hence lack of reports,) we finally had a decent day out today, with some nice Cod landed.
View Boats Page
Fishing the inshore wrecks and rough ground, we caught fresh mackerel for bait, which was used in conjunction with either squid or king prawn (nothing on the Shads today).
The fishing on the flood tide was pretty reasonable, but things definitely improved at slack water and the first hour of ebb, where we took a decent picking. The wind kicked up early afternoon, which made setting the drift and getting the lines down difficult, but the boys all did brilliantly.
We ended the day with half an hour’s mackerel bashing, so everyone got some for the BBQ.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl
