    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Whitby’s first competition of the year finished yesterday.
A tough event this year with strong Northerly winds muckying the water up at the start. Still, we persevered on the days we went and managed a reasonable picking some of the days.
Chris Siddle from Hull dropped on the winning fish on the Shy-Torque III with a ling of 9lb 3oz.
Not a big fish by any stretch but big enough to win him a very nice £500.00! Well done to him.
Chris is pictured with his winning fish.
Our next competition starts on June 26th and runs for 3 weeks inclusive. If you fancy a run out, drop me a line.
    Cheers for now.

    Report on-board Skylark

Not done a catch report for a long while

So thought we best do a summary of what's going on.

Unfortunately every trip so far we have had easterly winds which make fishing difficult on the day. Anglers have been catching cod 2 to 3lb area on all the trips we've done and the odd better pollock. We've tried the grounds to the North and grounds to the South with very little difference.

So today we decided to do something a bit different and with the anglers happily catching and releasing fish.

We decided to do a species hunt and see how many different species we could catch in a trip.
This was thoroughly enjoyed by all anglers and in total we had 11 species caught today.

The fish and shellfish we had aboard the boat were cod, pollock, pouting, coalfish, whiting, lessor spotted dogfish, dab, flounder, lobsters, velvet crab, edible crab,

We tried for many other species of flat fish and rays but unfortunately we just couldn't tempt one on. Great sport on light tackle and using different skills, tackle and locations to try and tempt another species.

A nice day out there today.

Starting out on a wreck 17 miles off and the lads were straight in to the cod. Doubles coming aboard all over the place. Just like the good old days!!

This lasted for an hour or so and gave the lads a great start to the day. Baited rigs and shads doing the business.
A move back inshore then and the lads picked away at codling on the 7 and 9 mile ground ending the day nicely.

Best fish today going to Peter Kisby. A nice codling of 6lb 10 oz

The Spring competition ends this coming Sunday.

Cheers for now and tight lines

  • 20/04/2021 Fishing Report by Ryan Jones on Ocean Runner (Poole, Dorset)

20 Apr 2021 by Ryan Jones

    Report on-board Ocean Runner

Great start to our season with great plaice fishing to kick start off from Poole, with our best day being over 70+ fish landed with some quality fish for the table and majority returned to fight another day. With the weather getting better and the temperature slowly increasing we have had our first bream of the year and as of next week with the spring tides we should have plenty of bream to catch in the bay.

  • 21/04/2021 Fishing Report by Philip Higgins on Mistress Linda / San Gina3 (Poole, Dorset)

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

We are still waiting for the Bream to arrive after an a spell of cold weather, with the temp rising hopefully they will be here next week on the bigger tides. It is nice to see a few Mackeral showing. The last few days we have concentrated on Plaice and Rays with both being caught in numbers, local angler Keith asked if we could have a spell on the ‘patches’ trying for a bream only to land a double shot of dogfish and plaice. Now we have a spell of strong easterlies confining us to port. If you would like more info or a trip please call

We headed out today on super low tides. To be honest we could have done with more tide. Flat calm and sunny 16 degrees a very pleasant day.

We had lots of Pollock also hooked a octopus and first MACKERAL

Great day out in ideal conditions
