    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

    Hi
The fishing along the sea front has produce plenty of plaice which vary in size from small to medium but are excellent sport, off to sea during the bigger tides Bass have been th3 main target and have not failed to impress in numbers and quality, the best this week went to Phil with a cracking 11lb 12ozs fish which not only set a PB for him and was his 1st. During the slack water periods plenty of small Tope have kept anglers busy mixed in with some quality Rays. The last few days have seen us during slack water switching to drifting the deep water for plaice which has been successful but the quality has not been there with many small fish being released. It is now time for us to start our Thresher trips as reports have hinted some have been caught, this always brings an extra air of tension and expectation waiting for that tell tale ratchet run. Will keep you posted on the results.

  • 09/08/2020 Fishing Report by Malcolm Collins on Just Mary (Christchurch, Dorset)

9 Aug 2020 by Malcolm Collins

    Report on-board Just Mary

Hi All, it's been a frustrating Spring and Summer so far, with Covid 19 and the inability to work, the lack of real guidance and information from any of the Authorities that we deal with and an unusually unseasonal windy few months. In May having consulted my Surveyor I was one of the first Skippers to resume work after Boris said we could all go back Fishing and Boating. I started back with just two Anglers on board the huge deck area on 'Just Mary'. In June I spoke to my Surveyor again and stepped it up to just four Anglers on 'Just Mary', in July we moved to six Anglers and that looks to be our maximum for this year of 2020. I have encouraged Anglers to come as 'buddy pairs' or as a group of close family, close friends, close work colleagues when booking 'Just Mary' for a day's Angling. It has worked but often to the detriment of the financial situation of the Business. This year of 2020 will be a 'write off' for many Angling Charter Boat Skippers and I can see plenty of casualties in our Industry. However we go on, finding fish for Anglers and Hire rod participants alike because that is what we do on every trip aboard 'Just Mary' from Christchurch. It is frustrating for me and for the Anglers when the windy weather just adds to our current problems under Covid 19 and trips are cancelled for safety reasons. My boat will take any amount of bad weather with just me onboard and believe me she has proven herself time and time again but I would never intentionally put my passengers in any danger or take a risk, it is never worth it. So we pick our days, we catch decent fish and after almost twenty years we carry on doing what we do best, we go fishing ! Ta Malc and 'Just Mary' from Christchurch in Dorset.

  • 06/08/2020 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

6 Aug 2020 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

We sailed today on near perfect conditions. Breathless with a gentle swell from the East.

First stop was for mackerel of which the lads took around 30 to see them through the day for their bait. Next 2 stops were over wrecks. The first one only throwing 4 or 5 fish out. The second one however gave us some steady fishing up and over slack water for an hour or so. Some nice plump cod to just over 7lb and a sprinkling of small ling boated. A big tide today and when it got running on the ebb the fishing slowed up until the next slack water when we picked some more codling up on the ground for the last hour.

Baited rigs fished best with the fresh mackerel doing the best. Shads picked a few up too.

Ivan Davey is pictured with his best of the day, a lovely cod of 7lb 2 oz.

    Cheers
    Rich

    Report on-board Skylark

Photos from todays trip again some cracking fish inshore.

Small 4" shads seemed to be the preference today with white, orange yellow and red working the best.

And a extra bonus when steaming back we had bottle nose dolphins bow riding and leaping around the boat
