Hi everyone, it’s been to long since our last update, due to the coronavirus pandemic and it’s been horrible hard times for everyone, and we hope you have all stayed safe. Our last update was on January and we did manage a few trips throughout February and into early March just before the lockdown was introduced. As you no from our previous reports we were uptide/downtide fishing under anchor and the fishing was superb. So we’ve added a few more pics from the February to early March period with some lovely cod just shy of double figures. We have also during the last couple of weeks had the electronics updated on the boat with a superb Olex 3D system with ground discrimination, aswell as new hondex sounder, koden gps system and new 17” displays. These systems are fantastic for showing all the sea beds features ie ledges, reefs wrecks, hard and soft ground aswell as displaying a complete 3D image helping us make sure we’re constantly on the right mark with your average sounder not showing this kind of detail, it really is a fantastic bit of equipment.
We also have some good news .
We are now able to operate following government guidelines, and with new risk assessments in place and social distancing marked out on the boat, we can now carry 6 anglers. The wheelhouse is totally out of bounds to anglers and we’re really sorry to say that we can’t help novice anglers at this period due to the social distancing rules so at the moment we’re only carry anglers that can fish unaided. The numbers we can carry and the social distancing rules may change over the coming weeks and months but at the moment that’s we’re we stand. Also the boat and any hire equipment will be disinfected before and after every trip and face coverings are advised to be brought or we can supply you with one. We’re not saying you have to constantly wear one but it’s there if you wish to. Also anybody displaying any symptoms no matter how big or small is advised not to travel for a fishing trip and that will also be at our discretion. We slso ask that you follow social distancing when approaching the boat. We’re now into our wreck fishing season and the mackerel are showing aswell as some lovely cod and ling over the wrecks. To book or for more info please feel free to give us a call on 07470354403 or contact us through the website. Tight lines for now and stay safe.

Its been nice to get afloat again after a couple of months under ‘house arrest’. It seems many of you are also keen to get afloat and although we cant take everybody we have at least been getting some of you out. So far we have only taken single person bookings and I must say I was very grateful for the support offered by some of our regular customers who were willing to hire the whole boat on their own. I understand this may be outside of many peoples budget so the good news is we are now taking groups of up to 5 for the rest of the month in line with current guidelines. Hopefully by next month we will be able to take more again as there is plenty of room on our catamaran.
The first trip I did post lock down was just my self and my wife to blow the cobwebs away. The weather was glorious and the fishing was even better. We had a great mixed bag of smooth-hounds, bass, dogfish, dab, thorn-back ray and tub gurnard within the first couple of hours. After that we drifted through some bass with lures for a short while. I didn’t get much time to fish as stacey had string after string of decent bass several of which were 3-4lbs in weight. We anchored for the rest of the trip in search of some more big smooth-hounds. We weren’t disappointed as several packs of double figure fish made their way through as the evening progressed. We didn’t have any monsters but several were 13-14lbs. they were also interspersed with yet more bass and a couple more rays before we headed home. On our trips since then we have seen similar fishing and the biggest hound we have had so far is 18.8lbs. hopefully this will be beaten before the summer is over.
To be honest I don’t have room for anybody before July and my diary is all over the place from then on depending upon what guidelines are relaxed so please bear with me.

    Report on-board Silver Halo

SINCE COVID 19 LOCKDOWN HAS BEEN RELAXED.

Since the slight relaxing of lockdown at the end of May I have run a few trips with just one angler.
The wrecking (drifting with lures) has been mostly very good but as usual, a few slow hours here and there inevitable.
Best pollock has been 12lb with loads in the 6 to 8lb mark. Best cod was 11lb with many around the 4 to 6lb mark. Bass are also now starting to show.

From today (1st of June) under the newer and still strict covid 19 guidelines, I'm able to offer trips for upto 3 individuals or upto 4 members of the same house hold.

I ask for passengers to provide an email address so I can send my guidance notes over. These explain what is required onboard and are for everyone's benefit.

My complete boat costs are needed to be set at the normal charge of £450.00 for a full 9 hour, medium range trip which will cover up to 50 miles. I'm happy to run a bit over this if required.
I can also offer 5 hour complete boat charters for £350 and 7 hour for £400.
Please note this is a premium charter with more space and less lines in the water.
My overheads and running costs are still full price and I've still not recieved a penny in aid from the government or local council!!!
Please get intouch if interested, we have some good fishing right now and I'm happy to help.
I appreciate your support in these difficult times, all the best Matt Forrester, skipper and owner.

A meeting was held this morning by Whitby Charter skippers (W. C. S. A) and it was decided that we won't be sailing as yet. This is due to health and safety and insurance issues for both anglers and skippers. We will review this decision in two weeks from today.
As always the safety of those sailing with us and ourselves is paramount.
Thank you for your patience in these difficult circumstances.
    Thanks Shaun

  • 30/05/2020 Fishing Report by Peter Mackintosh on Mistress (Tyne, Tyne and Wear)

30 May 2020 by Peter Mackintosh

    Report on-board Mistress

The weather was fantastic yesterday, warm and sunny with a little bit of a South Easterly blowing. The fish were biting from the off, with plenty of codling, mainly small, just under and over size. All were returned for another day. As we moved around from ground to wrecks, the fish got a little bigger about 1 1/2 lb to 2. The best baits proved to be prawns and mackerel.
Cod were coming up stuffed with sprat so we followed the gulls and managed to find some mackerel, about a dozen in total. They are here much sooner than last year, probably due to the good run of hot weather recently. When we hit the mackerel, the fishing really picked up and we landed a lot of cod, mainly on the small
size with a few better ones mixed in. Phil, one of the regulars, got the best Cod of the day, around the 7 lb mark.
With mackerel starting to show the bigger fish should hopefully be following in the coming weeks.
If you are thinking of booking, there are limited spaces due to social distancing regulations, so book early to avoid disappointment.
