Phil had a great trip the other day. The weather was nice and the hounds were feeding well. He had over 10 himself with several around double figures. He also had a bonus stingray too. He said it was a shame his friend Matt couldn't make it. Not to share the fishing but just to watch him catch so much!
The fishing has been great inshore for hounds and offshore for bass lately.
It's been nice to have some settled weather too.
I have availability for groups and individuals over the coming weeks.

    Report on-board Galloper

Tony and the lads had a great day on the hounds recently. There were fish of all sizes but a lot between 8-12lb and the biggest around 13-14lbs though it was quite busy so we didn't even weigh it! There were multiple hook ups and screaming reels at times. They kindly let Stanley fish too and I think he is getting the hang of holding them now. Not bad for a nearly 3 year old! There were a few bass too but mostly hounds.
Hopefully they keep coming over the next few weeks.
I have availability for groups and individuals over the coming weeks from brightlingsea then spaces for tuna fishing from Plymouth from the end of September.

  • 23/07/2024 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

23 Jul 2024 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

The 2024 Summer angling competition effectively came to an early end on Saturday, as we decided as an association to cancel the last day for inclement morning weather.

A NW breeze on the increasing tides would have made it nigh on impossible to fish.

We had a mixed group on on the penultimate day and we didn’t fish very well at all to be fair.

The Mackerel fishing to start the day off for the bait stocks was great but after that we literally picked a few fish up here and there.
First stop was the 9 mile area where we had taken a couple of decent fish the day previous.
We only managed a couple of fish there.

We tossed the coin and voted to run out to a wreck which has historically thrown a few competition winners out over the years.
We took just 8 fish from it and none of them were anywhere close to being contenders.

The next wreck was just a half hours steam away and we hit it at a perfect slack water.
Lines straight up and down for the first few drops and the lads picked a half dozen from it.
As the tide bent through and the boat started to cross it on a more natural drift, we took another half dozen or so and that was it. Again, no contenders for the prize sections.
After another 3 of 4 moves towards end the day off we only saw another couple of fish boated and we called it.

Tally of just 30 fish for the day.

Best fish for us on Saturday, a Ling for Henry of 9lb 10oz.

A lovely day out on the water with great lads and we thank you all for joining us.

I’d like to congratulate my lifelong friend and skipper Kev Marsden on winning this years Summer competition on his boat the Jean-K, with a cracking Ling of 15lbs 11.5oz.
    Well done mate!!

Some Seriously big Spring tides now so a few days off for jobs and some motorcycling! ️️

    Cheers
    Rich

  • 22/07/2024 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

22 Jul 2024 by Andy Savage

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

Apologies for the delay in the catch report …..Saturday saw the lads from The Keel Inn Fishing Club aboard. A day I really look forward to, as they’re all brilliant company and the p**s taking is relentless and brutal in equal measure!!

It was the last day of the Summer Competition and with a 16lb fish required to get in front we had a couple of options. With it being a 5m tide, we would usually split the day between wrecks and rough ground. But with very light winds and not great numbers of fish showing on the rough ground, the lads were happy to fish the wrecks all day in the hope that a better fish would come their way.

With the tide being fairly slack, we started on a wreck just over a mile from the pier ends straight away. We got a couple of fish every drift, but they were just strap Ling in the main. We then moved out to the rough ground at three miles to try for some Mackerel; which turned out to be patchy, but we got enough to get us going. Whilst drifting the rough ground, we noticed that despite the predicted tide, nobody was actually paying out line on the drift and they were all fairly vertical. That was the decision made, we opted to commit and run South to have a go on the wrecks for the rest of the day.

We were pushing the Ebb tide but thankfully, there were no boats ahead of us, so we could pick and choose the wrecks which suited the drift the best for the whole day. The Ebb tide produced fish off every wreck, some more than others. Tog Edwards managed to find the biggest Codling of the day at 5lb 8oz and Gaz managed a 10lb 6oz Ling. The fishing was far from fantastic, but that seemed to be the same across the board when speaking to the other Skipper’s.

When the Flood tide came through the sport literally dried up. We took only a handful of fish for the last couple of hours and unfortunately, the monster we were searching for didn’t materialise. The lads fished hard all day and whilst they fish hard, I will never stop trying. Thanks for a great day out lads.

We've been very busy making the most of the decent weather lately. There continue to be some lovely bass and hounds coming out on our general trips with a few different species showing too. The offshore trips are producing the best variety with bass, plaice, Launce, tub gurnard, red gurnard, scad, weaver and lots of mackerel showing.
Katie and Doug had a couple of lovely bass among the hounds on their trip as well as a nice tan as well I would imagine!

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Up to date at last the weather seems to be playing ball. got first tope late this year well done to bill. Big mackerel so far better than last year still getting plenty smoothounds and usual spotty dogs. Unfortunately we seem to catch whiting all year round now the wrecks have given us a few cod but the pouting are difficult to wade through. Nice to see a couple of wrasse we never used to get them along with a strap conger things must be warming up our end. Looking like were going to enforce deposits now getting ridiculous the amount of letdowns cant run a business on peoples reliability nowdays such a shame so dont be offended if your asked all fully refundable on bad weather. Few places left on the tope days if you fancy your arms being stretched the high flyer is out water sep 23 for a week or so shown on website. Look forward to seeing you guys at sum point.
    Cheers
