Torbay Fishing Festival 2019 sponsored by SHIMANO.
The 51st Torbay Fishing Festival got underway early September. This competition is very well respected around South Devon and is widely regarded as the fishing competition of the year in the South West. With the fishing from the wrecks very difficult all year it was always going to be a different year for those fishing from the boats. The overall winner was won with a truly fish of a lifetime being caught from shore, a Garfish of 2lb 10oz scoring 238%!!! Still I managed to stick to what I knew (Wrecks) when the weather allowed and managed a fairly respectable haul of prizes aboard including 2 Top Prizes;
’Best Fish from Wreck’ going to Paul Cottel for a lovely 5lb 5oz Black Bream winning £350 plus a Shimano Tyrnos16 reel
‘Top Charter Boat Skipper’ Trophy, + Prize, winners plaque and bottle of whiskey, going to me, Shaun Pedley aboard my vessel OUR JOE-L with a winning percentage of 467%.
Other Prizes included ‘Second Best Conger Eel’ + Prize, won by Paul Cashmore with a Conger of 61lb (Also winning British Conger Clubs ‘Fish of the Month’. ’Best ‘Conger Eel by a Visitor’ + Prize, won by Kevin Turner with a Conger of 49lb also qualified for British Conger Club. Red Gill Trophy for ‘Best Fish Caught on Artificial Lure’ won by Allen Curtis winning a very honourable amount of Red Gill lures. ‘Charlotte Louise Trophy’ + Prize won by Kevin Turner. Plus 4 Day prizes for Best Wreck Fish Day 1,7,8 & 9 winning a Shimano Charter Special Reel
All Prizes this year won a Shimano Beastmaster Slim AX Boat Rod in various weights.
A Very memorable Festival for me personally as it is the first time I’ve won the Top Charter Boat Skipper Trophy. Not only do I now have the honour of my name being engraved on the trophy along with a very small number of truly great local skippers** This is also a prize I remember my Farther winning in 2003 and again in 2015 and I now have the pleasure in my name joining his on the trophy. I am only the second Skipper to be added to the trophy since 2010, as it is always won back by the same phew skippers year on year with most winning it 3 or 4 times between them since it started in 2002.
I would like to thank the festival organisers, committee, volunteers, weighers and all entires from locals to visitors as without you all we would not be able for fish and enjoy this wonderful festival.

A windy old day yesterday but we still managed a very nice days fishing on Sea-Otter 2 .
The lads onboard yesterday who love the uptiding got some great sport on the cod they managed around the 60 cod mark nothing but massive but the rods were bouncing practically all day plenty returned to fight another day a lot more to come .

After a great summer season, with many good bass landed, we will now pay our attention to the Autumn and Winter fishing onboard Skerry Belle. We will be targeting the rough grounds off the North Foreland where hopefully we should see a good run of codling inbetween 4-8lb. Large Autumn bass migrating south where 15lb fish are not uncommon and are regularly caught by the commercial netters. The large channel whiting will also be in numbers where fish up to 3lb are not uncommon. Also anchoring the wrecks around the Goodwins will attract an array of winter fish including thornback rays, which will start to show in numbers anytime soon.
Remember all our trips are inclusive of rod hire, quality baits, tuition and run 7 days a week. We also do gift vouchers for Christmas which can be sent out to your home address. Look forward to seeing you all onboard soon, and tight lines! View Boats Page

Off again yesterday got a target blustery but still a nice few cod came aboard even a few doublers on the penal rigs the uptiding is in full swing now blacks and squid doing the damage a lot more to come a few spaces just come available Saturday.

Great day out today with the lads from Newcastle, after 8 days not at sea and looking like another few days off, we fished the 7 to 9 mile ground, taking around 20 fish then decided to go to a wreck on the 17 mile mark which really paid off, youngster Josh got a good bag of Cod with one just short of 11lb everyone else catching Cod and Ling, Steve the organiser also caught a nice Pollock around the 6lb mark on the way back in we stopped again for one last drift on the 7 mile taking a few fish, Billy had a go with a Mackeral spinner and thought he got stuck on the bottom only to find he hooked into a 17lb Ling, great set of lads hope to see you all again.

What a fantastic day with a brisk easterly wind chuffing we made a decision to rough it as the Belgium party wanted skate and they were not disappointed. We even lassood a skate and had one on the hook double hook up brilliant day lovely people who left Belgium at midnight to get here early for a 7 o'clock sail. A nice break in the weather on Saturday allowing us to have our first run to sea after a week or more ashore for poor weather.
The mackerel are still running here at Whitby which is great news for the lads and the bottom fishing wasn't too bad either with cod, ling, pollack, coaley and the usual nuisance pouting!!
Fish were falling mainly to the baited rigs with the squid taking the majority caught.
We are fishing up to the 1st December this year. After that the boat will be lifted from the water for some extensive work including a new deck fitted.
The calendar for 2020 is all up to date so have a look and get your trips booked early!

Out at sea yesterday the notts sea angling club booked the boat as usual and only 4 lads took the boat .
The fishing was steady with between 40-50 cod between them and many returned just a few spaces left this week if you want to into the cod fishing action the water inshore is now veery murky perfect for uptiding a few doubles on the penal rigs coming aboard . View Boats Page

After all this bad weather weve dropped back inshore uptiding with some great results.
The last two trips have thrown plenty of fish out, but yesterday after the huge northerly we managed to boat well over 100 codlings with loads of throw backs, most were over minimum size but the lads kept the best ones 40cm+ if they were deep hooked.
Im still getting messed around by people booking and not showing up, so please dont take offense at having to get deposits to me within 48 hours when asked.
We've plenty of availability from the 25th october and also into the next festival starting 9th November for 2 weeks. There's a massive prize board plus daily prizes.
Entry is £5 per person on top of your charter fee of £50. We will only be taking 8 anglers maximum on individual days, for maximum space and comfort, but will take upto 10 anglers on full boat bookings
We can supply hire tackle and bait if required for a little extra
