Monday 24th June 2019 not the most easist of days struggled wth thornbacks today basically they didnt feed! Few small bass today,usual handfull of small joeys and one decent one pictured here with Ben Cole i must say well deserved. Ben is probably one of the most hardest working anglers that comes on High Flyer 2 a live mackerel paid off for him,thought i would let you guys guess the weight a little game i,m playing with Ben.! Well done mate ,fish returned safe and well great bit of conservation. Cheers Jon. (High Flyer 2)

My old mate Nigel Hall fished with us for the 1st three days of the Whitby summer angling festival and decided he'd collect his £1000.00 winnings from the Spring competition whilst he was here. Better late than never !!
He won the competition back in April on the Shy-Torque III with a lovely pollack of 12 lb 6 oz.
Nigel is pictured with Malcolm Pitman of Hook Line & Sinker tackle shop, sponsors of our festivals here at Whitby, and myself.
No monsters so far on the Shy-Torque III in this competition although Nige did lose a good fish yesterday which could maybe have won something.
I'll post any pictures we have at the end of the competition with a full report too.

Sunday June 23rd easterly wind normally hard work but we had a good day despite conditions. Big thanks to Sharon for putting up with 9 lads was a most enjoyable day all round with mackerel, bass , usual smoothounds and total of 15 thornbacks only 2 kept due to damage rest returned. I’ll try to stick to the positives rather than moaning on about how poor the weather has been, I’ve probably done enough of that lately. Anglers onboard Silver Spray have managed plenty of top quality fish over the last month. The shorter range trips have been producing good numbers of bass on the right tides, not all monsters like Dave Mynors’ of 9lb 5oz, but still good fun on the light tackle. Bream fishing is going strong with some bigger fish starting to show up to 3lb 4oz the other evening. Our fishing holidays to Guernsey have been tough due to poor conditions but that hasn’t put the guys off, still keen whether its rain, wind or shine. The banks fishing for flatfish has been great compared to the last couple of years with plenty of good brill and turbot. Karston Murray caught a PB turbot of 15lb shortly after a false alarm which turned on to be a blonde ray, not something you usually see on a live sandeel. We have just returned from our first Cherbourg trip of the year which has been a success. There was enough cod and pollack to keep everyone happy along with some good sized bream. On the middle day of the three we explored some new ground and were rewarded with a new boat record in the shape of a 1lb 3oz greater weaver. A truly beautiful fish that fights well above it weight. Notable fish on the wrecks have included an amazing 5lb 9oz tub gurnard for Peter Rae caught on a sidewinder and a 63b conger for Mike White. We are off to Guernsey again tomorrow and hoping for better weather. Fingers crossed.

Had our first strings of mackerel today, should of been getting them like this months ago up to now we have only been getting them one or two a day now where near enough for bait yet alone for the table, fingers crossed the bait situation will get easier now. Off for tope turbot and rays tomorrow so will be handy to get a few strings.

Mistress regulars Dennis and Freddie were amongst the fish again today. Freddie landing the best fish of the day, a Ling about the 11lb mark, shortly afterwards he followed up with a couple of decent cod. Dennis had a nice brace of cod around the 7lb mark. Matt, up again from Peterborough, had a good session fishing for mackerel, taking a couple of dozen before switching to cod rig's and landing some decent specimens himself. It was good to see mackerel finally turning up in numbers, a sure sign that the bigger Ling and Cod will be not far away. Thanks Tony for another great days fishing.
