Sat 28th, the last days fishing of the year for us on the Mistress.the tides weren't fantastic but it was the only gap in the weather i could see for while, the winds blown strong ever since.

I really fancied getting out as I've been couped with a bad knee since before Christmas, a couple of my regulars managed to jump aboard with me for the day at late notice.
Tbh we had a fairly slow start to the day with only bits and bobs coming aboard from various marks. I made a move for the last few hours and the rods never stopped nodding,
We ended the day with us all boating 10+ codlings each but only kept the better ones. I was absolutely plagued by pouting too which got me a ribbing from the rest of the lads.
Martin managed a baby bullhuss which was a nice surprise too.
Usual baits of black lug, dirty squid and cart too the fish.
Well guys that concludes 2024, thank you all again for your continued support, I look forward to seeing you in 2025!

It was great to work off a bit of excess Turkey and Christmas Pud today with an offshore wrecking trip, with a great bunch of lads.
View Boats Page
With the weather conditions looking settled, we chose to run off to try a couple of wrecks around the 20 mile stream. At this time of year, the inshore wrecks seem to yield very little, so it’s sometimes beneficial to run out a bit further where the water is perhaps a bit clearer. Using the Ebb Tide, we headed north for a couple of hours to fish a wreck which had been left alone for a couple of months, arriving with an hour or so to go before slack water. The lads went over with mainly Squid baited muppet traces or Hokkai’s and 12oz leads.
First drift over we managed three Codling, so thankfully there were a few at home. The lads fished steady away taking fish every drift right up through slack water and into the flood tide. Codling were the main species landed with a couple of fish around 7lb being the biggest, but not a bad average stamp overall. We also had a trio of Ling, a stray Pollock and a handful of Haddock, Whiting and Pouting.
Once the Flood tide got going and a seal arrived, sport slowed up, so we moved on to the next wreck. Disappointingly, this wreck didn’t have the same volume of feeding fish on it, with just one or two fish a drift of a much smaller stamp. With an hours fishing time left, I made the decision to try one more wreck on the way back to Whitby. This wreck was situated much closer to land at around nine miles, so I was unsure what we would find. As it turned out, we found practically nothing and would have been better off not moving. One Codling around 4lb and a couple of Pouting made it a bit of a damp squib to finish the day, but the boys aboard made it a very enjoyable one.
Mike Griffiths had booked on with three of his mates and my highlight of the day was seeing all four of them into fish at the same time. They fished well today and all had a fair few to take home. A couple of the other boys didn’t fare quite so well, but that’s fishing for you.
Thanks for coming today lads, you were all fantastic company.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

It looks like we could have a weather window after Christmas so I'm arranging a couple of trips. Hopefully we can get offshore for the chance of some mixed fishing one day and find some fish closer to home on another more relaxing day. I have availability for full boat bookings if anyone wants exclusive hire for fishing trips or even just if you want a boat ride with the family for a few hours.

The weather has stopped our last few trips but before that there were loads of fish showing from the last of the bass and hounds through to whiting, dogfish, rays and even conger.
Have a lovely Christmas and hopefully I'll see some of you on the other side.

Report on-board Shy-Torque III
A fantastic sunrise welcomed us back to sea yesterday morning with our group of 6 lads, after yet another long spell away from the water.
View Boats Page
We were meant to start our Shy-Torque III Xmas Uptiding Competition last Sunday but sadly the weather has been against us until yesterday.
We sailed just after 7.30am and headed out to our usual inshore marks, where on the last few trips, fished well.
Yesterday morning was totally different!
We persevered for a couple of hours on the first mark until the tide started slowing up, for a paltry 10 fish or so.
A move of just a couple of miles over slack water to a different sector and the signs were immediately better.
4 or 5 Codlings boated as soon as we’d anchored which gave us hope for when the flood tide pushed through.
As the flood pushed through, the Codling started biting a bit better for an hour or so until we were hampered by 4 seals. After they disappeared the fishing didn’t recover really, by which time it was about time to return home.
Tally for the trip was around 30 fish to keep, with a number of smaller fish, Dogfish, Pouting, Codling, returned safely
Because yesterday looked like the only day we are going to get in our little 8 day pre Xmas competition, I decided that it would be unfair to all our other anglers booked on, to count any possible contenders for the prize money we’re offering and instead have decided to try and run another contest in the New Year on some good inshore tides.
Dates of that to be decided.
Best Codling fell to young Fergus (crewman) and Neil Dowson, both lads from Egton just outside Whitby. Fish to just over 5lb.
At this point I would like to wish everyone who have fished with us over the year, a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year.
Tides and diary are ready for you to make any bookings in 2025.
Cheers
Rich
