Report on-board Shy-Torque III
The boat comes out of the water for a week from next Monday chaps. General maintenance and a good polish up for the start of the upcoming season.
Weather permitting we'll be back in action from Tuesday 29th January. Uptiding trips are available as are offshore trips.
Check the calendar for availability which is always kept up to date.
The competition dates are starting to go quite quickly now so (in your best interest) give me a ring sooner than later to secure your places.
We only have 6 dates left in the Summer competition where the boat is completely empty for any of you wanting her for your group/club. Individual spaces are a bit more available.
Comp dates are :-
Spring --------------------- April 13th - 28th inc.
Summer ------------------- June 22nd - July 14th inc.
Late Summer ------------- Sept 7th - 22nd inc.

Hi guys, we've had a couple lads book on for monday, so we'll need at least one more angler to make up numbers to sail. The fishing has been very very good again this winter.
This trip is 9 hours long and £45 but I do offer a shorter trip for £30 too, which has been popular and allows us a fast turn round and do a night trip which are also £30 per person.
We're also taking bookings for the WCSA 2019 festivals now, we are usually among the prizes, and won the last event.
The dates are
Spring 13th-28th April.
Summer 22nd June - 14th July
Autumn 7th-22nd September

First report of 2019 and I’m pleased to say we have already carved out a dozen trips since Christmas. Fishing has been steady with the highlight being some really cracking whiting coming aboard, some fish well over the 4lb mark. As the weather improved after the festive period we managed to double our catch of cod for the winter that brings us up to 2. Although we haven’t had the best winter cod season, like most boats in our patch of water, we have seen some cracking Pollock, usually taking the top hook of a whiting rig. Ben Cannings was happily surprised one such day when he managed a 18lb 8oz Pollock on just size 3 hooks, by far our biggest ever inshore Pollock. Further off on the banks we have had the first of the spur dogs mixed in with some good sized bull huss. We got a shock on New Years Eve when fishing 10 miles out we managed to hook a shark of some description on the spur dog gear, a first for that time of year. Having buoyed the anchor off we chased it around for 15 minutes but the 100lb trace could only hold out for so long and eventually the fish won the battle. In the coming weeks we shall be looking for our first days out on the wrecks for the Pollock and more spur dogs and blonde rays on the banks. We still have space on our 3 and 4 Day trips to Alderney Guernsey and Cherbourg next year from July onwards, only a couple spaces left in June.

2019 has got of yo a really bad start thanks to the weather not allowing us to get on the fishing grounds. we did manage a couple of days on the 5th and 6th of jan with each trip averaging around 30 codlings per trip. We've had nearly 2 weeks of unsettled weather and a mixture of northelies creating big seas so hopefully once settles we should see a good stamp of fish come over the rails. we did make sea angler magazine this month on the 6th jan we had sean brewin aboard from chester and he caught a lovely 7lb 6oz codlings a pb for him. The fish fell to a full squid bait. we're also still taking bookings for the spring festival which starts on 13th April till the 28th april with a cracking £1000 up for grabs for heaviest fish over the competion aswell as daily prizes. Drifting and anchor sessions on two Banks produced some fine Undulate Rays as well as the first Turbot and Brill of the year along with Thornback Ray, Small Eyed Ray etc. 15 different species have now been caught on Flamer IV in 2019. Pictured is Bill Oliver with his 17Ib Undulate Ray.

With the lack of Cod in our area we are concetrating on Dabs and Whiting there seem to be an abundence of these fish this year,some of the Dabs that weve had are a good size and the area that has prodused the most is off Pontins and Red House plus we had one nice plaice last Saturday i am sure there are more of these orange spottys about,with the onset of spring i am sure we will be having a run of Cod around March with the Rooker and Hounds following with the big female Bass soon after so until then,BP.

Winter looks like making it present felt this week but as soon as the weather breaks we will be off getting back into the cod fishing blacks and squid doing the damage abetrer stamp of fish now showing .
The £5000 1st prize summer festival is getting very well booked up so don’t leave it to late to get yourself booked on Sea-Otter 2 we had the biggest cod and biggest ling in the 2018 competition .

Well November and early December was a total waste of time, my only 5 full boat bookings were cancelled due to the weather!
With the Christmas break and nice settled weather in the first couple of weeks of Jan we've managed to get a few trips out.
Sadly, the season seems to be running well behind and our hotly anticipated new season Pollock have yet to show up!!! We have managed a few but it's usually just a handful of fish for about an hour or two a day. Hardly worth the effort given the mileage we are putting in.
Anyway with that in mind we have turned our attention to some inshore bait fishing. On our first trip we were rewarded with a amazing 18lb Anglerfish and a nice 18.8lb Spurdog, along with a couple more Spurs, whiting, pout and doggies. More trips are likely to happen whilst we wait for those 20lb pollock!!!
There is plenty of choice running out of Torbay with Lyme Bay, Skerries banks, Start Point, Lannacombe Bay and mid channel all within easy reach.
