Plaice fishing today was phenomenal with over 150 being landed by 5 anglers. The average size was just about legal landing size but only 14 fish over 33 cm were kept many lucky Plaice exceeding that size were released as the lads enjoyed the fishing but did not want to take anymore home

    Report on-board Alexia

Monday 17th september 2018 we fished our first trip in the wcsa autumn festival with regulars Chris lax , Stu Spink and the lads from hull. 5 anglers in total. We fished a well known wreck approx 12 miles down the coast. The tides were spot on (neaps) and it wasn't long before the lads were into ling . The lads were fishing with a mixture of rigs from baited hokkais to shad and side winders . The weather was forecast for it to get fairly breezy from the south east from around dinner but it never came and the lads boated over 40 ling up to 11lb 10oz with the general stamp been between 6lb and 10lb. We spent several hours on the wreck picking up fish every drift. Just after dinner we moved on trying various wrecks whilst heading back to whitby and picked up around half a dozen codlings up to 7lb. Unfortunately we didn't manage any places amongst the prizes for the day. The comp runs until the 30th September so hopefully we can sneak a day or 2 before the festival ends and hopefully get amongst the prizes. To book or for more info contact barry on 07470354403

Fishing on a Bank to the East of Weymouth produced Congers,Tope and some double figure Blonde Rays along with a Starry Smooth Hound and a smattering of Dogfish. Rick Hawkins did particularly well catching the two biggest Blonde Rays Weighing 19Ib 4oz, 18Ib 8oz and an 11Ib Starry Smooth Hound. I was invited to have a go and it was nice to see I had not lost my touch and caught Blonde Rays weighing 15Ib and 16Ib and some Congers. Paul Milkins tried hard to catch some Rays but kept catching Congers and Tope, thus having a grey fish day. Flowing traces with pennel rigs of Sakuma Manta Extra hooks baited with Squid and Mackerel cocktails were the successful combination. Rick Hawkins is pictured with his 19Ib 4oz Blonde Ray.

  • 09/2018 Fishing Report by Luke Pettis on Snapper (Weymouth, Dorset)

    Sep 2018 by Luke Pettis

    Report on-board Snapper

September has been an interesting month so far In Weymouth with some big events being held such as the annual inter police competition being held with over 160 anglers taking part, over 20 species of fish were caught in just one day with every boat in the fleet taking part a lot of fun was had by all. September seem to bring an end to the mackerel locally but that hasn’t slowed the fishing down. with some of the best trips the boats ever seen taking place on the bream and with a huge abundance of conger Ells and other ground fish to go with them. We have also seen a big number of porbeagle sharks in the area and even managed to catch and land a few to the early 100lb range we will be up dating our calendars in the next couple of days. But if you are interested in a trip out with us on snapper please give us a call.

  • 09/2018 Fishing Report by Sam Cumming on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

    Sep 2018 by Sam Cumming

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

We have just got back from our last Alderney trip of the year, crossing into Poole harbour safely just a few hours before storm Ali batters the south coast. Strong south westerly winds kept us in sheltered waters to the north of the island for 3 days. The main target species was couch’s sea bream which every angler on the boat managed catch, Jed leaving his until the last minute just as we hauled the anchor up to come home. A surprise catch came in the form of our first and second ever trigger fish landed around the Channel Islands. Andy Armitage’s fish weighed 4lb and was quickly released as it looked to be a female in season. Fishing at anchor mid channel has also been fruitful with plenty of black bream tope and congers on the wrecks. We are seeing an abundance of porbeagle sharks just like last year, although they are proving tough to hook on the correct tackle usually favouring hooks meant for bream. In Poole bay plaice fishing has been brilliant of late with fish averaging around the 2lb mark and all the way up to 4lb. I’ve noticed it has been worth sitting it out as they can sometimes be a bit picky about when they come on the feed, sometimes changing from one day to the next. Elsewhere at anchor the ray fishing has been good also with good numbers of small eyed and undulates about. We are even seeing turbot and brill at anchor regularly which is never a bad thing. It’s well worth bringing frozen mackerel from now on as the they are becoming unreliable to find for bait. We have spaces in the first week of October to target porbeagle sharks as we are going 5 days on the trot in an effort to keep track of them. Call on 07787 375386 to get booked up.
