Report on-board Galloper
As im sure you may have gathered by now 2018 has started off well for the blackwater estuary boats. The fishing isn’t exactly ‘on fire’ but it is a vast improvement on what we have seen of late. The rise in temperature has made the thorn-back rays start to move. We seem to get a few decent fish amongst them throughout January and February and so far 2018 hasn’t disappointed with the biggest so far falling to Graham at 15.5lbs.

there have been a few more codling showing too and a better stamp. Many of these fish are fresh in and still taking our baits despite a large influx of sprats and herring. Bites are finicky and easily missed so the key is small baits, keep them fresh by changing regularly and allow bites to develop (sit on your hands a while). There arnt hoards crawling up the lines but our best trip so far is 11 codling and the top rod landing 5 of those. We would usually expect numbers to increase as the bait fish leave and the cod get back on the bottom over the course of the next few weeks so fingers crossed.
Alongside the codling and rays we have seen plenty of whiting at times and some are a decent size (for this area) as well as the odd dab, pouting and even a couple of highly sought after dogfish!
I have plenty of spaces over the coming weeks for individuals and groups, remember we can often get out when others cant due to the shelter offered locally.

Report on-board High Flyer 2
Coming to the end of the month now, our fishing has been all over the place with bass and skate being caught, totally out the ordinary for us this time of year plus the wind has been extremely fierce at times from every direction you can think of. Have lost quite a number of trips and most that we have done keeping us inshore most of the time. The whiting have been constant making the boat busy at times a god send in some respects but in others a pain grabbing the baits before anything else gets a chance. I must thank everyone who keeps coming out supporting us as it hasnt been brilliant but it seems to be nationwide problem, we have only another month or so and spring will be upon us with doggies and skate then smoothies life will be grand!!! Picture today is of Craig with sunday 28th best inshore codling of 4lb others smaller and returned along with the usual whiting , pouting and odd dab. Was a very windy day but lads done well good banter as usual. Many thanks to Dean for organising all the lads looking forward to next trip.

As we have new vessel working on the new brochure which should be out soon, also should you wish to be added to database for trip info such as places available etc or special trips by text or email please send your details over to be added,( not forwarded to other parties.) Be sure to think about your summer dates especially weekends as they are going, the website up to date and reliable.
Please note for 2018 we are asking you to use our Paypal deposit system of £20 per head( fully refundable on bad weather etc ) as certain people unfortunately let us down constantly , we lose out money wise and you lose a fishing spot you could have had it is getting to the point where local skippers are now trading letdowns names so those individuals will find it difficult to get a charter. Please be aware of that.

Finally a nice day to get out with a flatish sea and not to cold.
Overal the 6 lads have manage to catch between 50 and 60 cod between them with plenty returned to fight anouther day.
Also while on the trip we saw a good amount of wildlife around like porpoises leaping most of thier body out the water while traviling around marine drive and a good amount of seals while fishing. -

Hi and welcome to the New Year, the weather has restricted fishing to just a few odd days . The fishing outside the Harbour has remained steady with the Whiting getting smaller but still plentiful these are bolstered by some good Rays and Congers which seem to be on the small side, on one such trip recently we landed all 5 Rays ( Thornback, Blonde, Small Eyed, Spotted and a cracking 18lb 6ozs Undulate) further off to sea there have been some good Spurdogs, Rays, Bull Huss and Eels for those willing to travel the extra distance.

Well 2018 is hear!!!

As is the case for this time of year it's all about stealing a day when the weather allows. We have managed a couple of days and the fishing has been fantastic. Brilliant Blondes to 30lb and Huss inshore on the banks along with a steady run of tasty whiting has proved great sport for those not wanting to travel miles. Add into that Undulate, Thornback, spotted and Small eyed Rays, congers even a late or early Bream have made an appearance here or there!!
The wrecking is showing fantastic signs compared to last winter, Steady runs of decent fit Pollack have been around coming to a vast array of lures keeping all on board busy with rod bending action. When I have been filleting the fish on the way in they have showed little signs of Roe inside which means the best is still to come. On the weekends trip Terry Hickman managed a nice stroke of luck when a 16lb Turbot snaffled his sidewinder. As you can tell by the pic what a cracking fish!!
We have spaces over the next month on the following trips;
27th Jan Big Blonde Rays £55pp
28th Jan A mixed inshore day £55pp
8th Feb Wrecking Pollack £75pp
11th Feb Wrecking Pollack £75pp
18th Feb Wrecking Pollack £75pp
25th Feb Wrecking Pollack £75pp
26th Feb Wrecking Pollack £75pp
2nd March Wrecking Pollack £75pp
Many thanks to all that support Weymouth through the tough old winters! See you soon!
Tight lines,

We have had every kind of weather you can imagine over this last fortnight and lost a lot of trips. However we have managed to get the last two weekends in and i'm pleased to report that there are some cod here.
View Boats Page
There has been a definite increase in numbers and size of cod this week with all the boats reporting a few more fish this weekend with quite a few between 2-3lb. There are a few more sprats in the water now but this is actually helping to bring the cod in providing we don't get a glut of them. We did miss some good bites and dropped a couple of fish as well. When the bites are shy you need to cut the squid down and use elastic cotton and keep the bait up the hook with nothing hanging off.
There are some cracking whiting to be caught with several fish over the 1lb mark on Sunday, generally though there are a lot less whiting and this is also giving the cod a chance to get to the baits.
There are a few nice Thornbacks showing, some of them are getting on for double figures, these female fish have eggs and should be returned alive.
The Estuaries and shore marks are always hard in the new year but with less whiting now there could be a chance of a cod from the piers and it won't be long before more Thornbacks show up.
Prospects as always depend on lots of factors this time of year but signs are encouraging and things can change overnight so don't give up, the winter fishing changes every year and none of us know what might turn up, keep trying. -

My first wrecking trip of 2018 produced a good catch of Pollack with plenty of double figure fish. Blue and White and Rhubarb and Custard coloured Red Gill and Sidewinder lures proved to be the best on the day. Pictured is Rick Hawkins with his best Pollack weighing 13Ib 9oz.
