  • 12/2017 Fishing Report by Nigel Lihou on Optimist (Brixham, Devon)

    Dec 2017 by Nigel Lihou

    Report on-board Optimist

2017 has been a good year for Optimist we have put the Anglers on the fish on every trip. The Wrecks have been a bit hit and miss during the year with some good catches of Pollack when we have managed to hit a wreck that has not been commercially netted the day before, Pout as usual have been very prolific, it is just convincing you anglers that a large Pout is if gutted when caught is not a bad fish to eat and they can put up a reasonable fight.
The Skerries bank as always has fished consistently throughout the year with reasonable quantities of Plaice although this year there were very few above the 2lb mark and a lot of undersized returned for another day. The banks still throw up surprises and we have had some good sized Turbot and Brill and Ray as well as the unexpected.
Our biggest problem this year has been fresh Mackerel as they didn't arrive until mid July and then it was a case of not on the usual marks except for one day in August where we sat on the mooring and nearly filled a box, which meant we could freeze some down for future use.
Also during the year we have become a recognised Elasmobranch tagger recording data for the SSACN, practising a catch and release program with Sharks, Rays, Huss and Hounds, this has so far proved very successful and we hope to build on this in 2018.
Optimist tries to live up to its name and with bookings for 2018 already starting to fill up we look forward to welcoming you aboard just call Nigel on 07817136505

23 Dec 2017 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

Happy Christmas guys, hope youve all had a lovely time.
Leading up to the big day we ran a night trip, a few hours sleep then on to a day trip, my deckhand Clag and me were ready for break following our day at sea!

The fishing was ok too, I only had 5 lads for the night trip but we all took a good few fish, 2 lads took a dozen cod and the rest of us 6/8 cod a piece so a good night was had by all.

We were full for the day trip, but had a drop in tides, and a blustery day, meant we were limited to where we could fish, never the less we took a steady picking of cod finishing up with around 50 keepers again, plus chuck backs. The best angler getting around a dozen.

Best bait remains black lug, unwashed squid and cart.

We're running trips again from the 28th, with a day off for new years day.
If youre interested in a days fishing with me give me a call on 07977 436903
    Or mail me at seafishingwhitby@hotmail.co.uk

  • 12/2017 Fishing Report by Lewis hodder on Pegasus (Lyme Regis, Dorset)

    Dec 2017 by Lewis hodder

    Report on-board Pegasus

Winter has finally arrived as far as Boat fishing is concerned in Lyme Bay on the Inshore trips the Bream have finally moved on although we were still catching lots of good sized fish right up until the end of November. Channel whiting have moved in, in numbers, to replace them with lots of fish being caught in the 2lb bracket. A few thornback and undulates rays and plenty of dogfish also coming to the boat. We even had a spurdog of 16lb only a couple of miles from Lyme Regis which is a first for me!

Offshore anchoring is producing a few Blonde Rays on the banks and Spurdogs, Huss, Conger and Undulate Rays on the rougher ground.

Wrecking has been great so far in December with lots of fit and healthy hard fighting Pollack coming to the Net up to 17lb and the occasional Bass up to 7lb.

We will be continuing right through winter Wrecking for Pollack, Inshore for whiting, Rays, Conger, Huss and the odd Cod and Offshore grounds on the neap tides for Spurdogs, Rays, Conger and Huss.

  • 12/2017 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

    Dec 2017 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

After a very steady days fishing yesterday, the lads today absolutely creamed it !!

Perfect conditions for working a couple of wrecks just 45 minutes from the harbour, the lads couldn't believe their eyes when the fish started coming aboard in doubles and even trebles at one point !!

Glen Nichols from Nottingham used a "Hartlepool horror" baited with squid and had us all amazed with double hook ups on several occasions (that's doubles on one lure) Glen ended up with a slack box of fish for himself.

Top rod on the boat today was regular Shy-Torque angler Simon England who had a good box of fish ( 7 stone ) himself, working the shad all day long.

Young William Thompson (11) and his Dad Richard from Oxfordshire had a great day too and with our team of 4 from Norfolk, Malc, Steve, Andy and mad Jacko adding a good box and a half to the count I reckon we would have a combined 120+ Cod boated with loads of smaller fish returned too.

A fun filled day for all with plenty enough fish to keep them going over the Xmas period.

    Tight lines as ever
    Rich
