19 May 2024 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

The fishing over the last week or two has really turned a corner and it suddenly feels quite like summer. Obviously the weather has been great too and we have been busy catching lots of fish.
Some days the bass have been in great numbers on lures and baits. Smooth hounds are here in numbers and sizes vary from one day to another. The biggest in the last few weeks has been over 18.5lb. we have even seen quite a few tope mixed in on our general trips too which is hopefully a good sign for the tope season. I will report on this once we have finished as normal so please don't wait for reports before you book.
Next individual spaces are this Tuesday (21st) then over the bank holiday weekend. Please call 07956411528 for more information

  • 19/05/2024 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

19 May 2024 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Alex Choy and his mates joined us yesterday for their third trip of the year.

The group love to fish the “Wall” if the weather allows it, as they love to target the Norwegian Haddock (Acadian Redfish) on the light tackle.
Luckily for them, the weather fell in their favour so we gave it another go.

Plenty of them for the lads!!

Fergus reckoning on 40+, plus other small bits and bobs.
Leo who fishes with the group was telling me that this particular fish is so expensive in Hong Kong.
    Around £30.00 per kilo!!

We never saw a fish above 4lb but still a fun filled day for Alex and the boys with good Chinese banter all day!

    Cheers
    Rich.

  • 18/05/2024 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

18 May 2024 by Andy Savage

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

Well that was a day of two halves!! When you look at the images, you’d think the pictures were taken on different days.

I had a group of regular experienced anglers aboard today. With a somewhat “potentially iffy” looking forecast with North Westerly winds, I gave everyone the option of cancelling, but with almost everyone keen to have a go, we left just after 0600hrs with the radar on and headed out into the fog. With four hours of the Ebb tide to fish, we started on a couple of wrecks only 3.5 miles from the pier ends. The first one produced a few Codling, with my cousin Dave Coverdale taking the biggest at a 5lb, but the action died off after 40 minutes or so.

We hopped to the one next door and whilst this one wasn’t heaving with fish, we took a good sized Codling (along with a few smaller samples) each drift. Dave Bewley took the biggest off that wreck with a nice Cod of 9lb 4oz and Neil Fell-Edwards had a new Pb Codling of 6lb 2oz. For the remainder of the Ebb we fished a further three wrecks and picked fish off all of them. Nothing enormous, but every drift saw a couple dragged up. The usual suspects of muppet traces or Hokkai’s baited with squid or Mackerel did the business as #standard.

Once the Flood Tide pushed through, we had wind and tide together, which made the drift a bit quick for fishing the wrecks effectively, so we spent the afternoon on the rough ground. The five mile ground looked very green, so after only one drift we moved out a couple of miles and found a bit more water clarity. This also coincided with the fog lifting and a beautiful afternoon spent in the sun.

That kept us entertained for around 90 minutes taking a few each drift, then we finished up on the nine mile ground. Everyone fished well and the rods ticked over nicely all day, which to be honest far exceeded my expectations. It was another day spent in great company so a big thanks to all the lads….top dangling today

  • 18/05/2024 Fishing Report by Malcolm nightingale on Chopsea (Poole, Dorset)

18 May 2024 by Malcolm nightingale

    Report on-board Chopsea

Well flat calm today 18th may, was supposed to have rain most the day off the Dorset coast around poole.
Well we decided to go regardless as the sea would be calm.
Had probably 2 showers in the morning and then the sun came out.
Firstly we went and fished for mackerel for fresh bait, after getting more than enough and some for the table we headed off to find the Bass. Couldn't go wrong today as the bass nailed the live baits.
Well lets see what tomorrow holds as hopefully same as today but as they say no day is the same.
Well fished to my crew and look forward to seeing you all again soon.
My two keepers for the table and family.

    Malcolm

  • 18/05/2024 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

18 May 2024 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Two day report on the Shy-Torque III.

Thursday didn’t fish very well at all for the guys on the boat in all honesty.

We re-ran our route we took the day before, as we’d had such a great day, but sadly the little buggers weren’t playing for us.
We finished Thursday’s trip off on a little wreck just 2.3 miles from shore and had our best fishing there to be fair.
We did only take 8 Codling from it but considering what we had before this, it was good!!

Yesterday I chose to run back in the direction we’d finished off the day before and wreck hopped for the first couple of hours.

On the first bit of scrap, I went straight into a fish on the shad and two other lads hooked up straight away too.
20 winds off the bottom and a seal grabbed my fish, taking it clean off the hook in one.
10 seconds after this, Graham Soloman’s fish was attacked by the beastie and his came up with just a head and entrails!

    Moving on then!!

The next wreck was just 3/4 mile away to the North.
    First drift, one fish boated.
Second drift, 2 fish on and both pinched by a seal!!
Long story short, the same f*****g seal followed us for 2 hours and killed our morning!

I moved the boat to a completely different sector to get away from it, hoping to find a seal free area and luckily for us we managed to find a few nice fish on a strip of ground with no seal harassment.

The lads plucked away nicely for a couple of hours and ended up with some nice Codling to just under 9lb and Ling to just over 10lb.
Around 30 fish from that ground making for an enjoyable bit of fishing to save the day.

A great mixed group of lads who were pleased with the day in the end.
    See you again soon lads.

    Cheers for now,
    Rich
