Report on-board Shy-Torque III
The last few trips on the Shy-Torque have been very up and down indeed with the big tides still with us.
View Boats Page
Last Saturday we had a mixed group of lads aboard who dropped on to a reasonable day both weather wise and fish wise too. We fished a wreck some 17 miles from port and managed around 40 fish off it. The tide turned around 11 am and the South East breeze at the back of the ebb hindered us with too fast a drift. Ling to just short of 12lb and Cod to around the 8 lb mark making for a fairly nice show of fish for the lads for the mornings efforts.
Yesterday (Sunday 24.09) wasn't too bad either with Ling to around the 9 lb mark but very few Cod on board.
Today (Monday 25.09) Not very good at all with around 15 fish total aboard the boat between the 4 anglers.
Kev from Yarm is pictured with his best fish of the day on Saturday.
I now have 2018 tide tables and 2018 diary, so if you would like to make any bookings please feel free to give me a call to secure your trips. Any time between 8 am and 8 pm.

Fishing Report by TERRY BATT
on Vanishing Point-2 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

Report on-board Vanishing Point-2
Report from Friday and Saturday.... Friday saw Dave Barham with one of his superb..............
View Boats Page
(Fishing tutorial adventures with Dave Barham) and we set out quite early from Bradwell to be at an off-shore mark that normally fishes it's pants off... but I was a little worried at the lack of bird life, well I say lack..!! it was devoid to be honest.
We tried several marks in the same stretch of water for only a couple of very small school Bass.
Then I took a gamble based on last year when the same thing happened according to my little red book.. and steamed NW for 30 minutes to another favourite Bass Mark of mine.
Once we were settled and everything was quiet after about 15 minutes Dave hit into the first Bass nice fish about 5lbs and this was followed for the next 2 hours with a string of good Bass with some slightly smaller and some bigger around 27 Bass landed and even Dave missed some crashing bites..... but that's Bass fishing for you.... you don't get them all, no matter how great you are, I was lucky not to have lost my rod over the side, I just had to go into the wheelhouse to get more bait from the fridge when my hermit crab (which has been working really well for Bass) it didn't enter my mind I was going to get a large Smoothound attack...lol luckily Mark was on hand to catch my rod before it went over the side, so it only seemed right to let him land the fish... the way it stripped line off the reel at first I thought.. dam this is going to be a big Bass... then on the 3rd run it was clearly not a Bass but a big old Hound good double in shallow water..!! great fun.
So Saturday.... with my 6 anglers mustered on Vanishing Point-2 confidence was high for their specialised Bassing trip that they had been waiting so long for, some had never caught a proper Bass, like our dear fried Paul Charlesworth .
The only thing as you will see from the photos is that Friday was perfect conditions, but a little breeze from the SE just made it a little harder to get the boat positioned right, as this is critical if you are going to get it right.
But once we arrived and settled down, it wasn't as fast as the day before, in fact it was slow to start with, just as I was going to move, Alistair got the first one, nice fish around 5 lbs ... but being the great fisherman he is, a quick photo and back it went.
But undeterred I got Nicola to pull the anchor and repositioned the boat, and we had a few nice fish but still wasn't happy I repositioned a second time (the wind was just slightly wrong)
but once I was happy with the boat's position the bites came thick and fast, with many bites being missed, due to basically a little inexperience..! good Bass are not the easiest fish to catch, but once you have enough bites and learned how to react...... bingo there is your first real Bass in the net...
(Eh Paul....).
WE had 30+ chances with crashing bites but only converted that into 15 Good Bass landed, and only 6 fish kept all the rest returned, not just because that is the law now only 1 Bass per angler, but all the guys mostly like to fish for the sport...!! (aint that right Tom)..
Sunday, saw a stronger wind again from the SE but we were on general fishing so we went for a ride off-shore and conditions were better off-shore than closer in..!!
Once anchored up fish started coming almost right away, the out of the blue, we were astounded...!!!! we have seen Porpoises many times, but in nearly 30 years of being out there, we had a Dolphin surface right along side the boat, scared the crap out of Tony who was fishing in the corner...lol he called me and said a bloody great fish just surfaced right by the side of him, and although I didn't see it I could see the swirl of disturbed water it had left behind...?? then it surfaced again bloody hell...!! it was a Dolphin...!! it continued to swim all around the boat for and hour, at one point most of the party were on the bow watching the Dolphin going back and forth over the anchor rope ... he was just playing... and as we move out of the deeper water because to tide had started running to hard, the Dolphin swam right along side us as though he was giving us an escort, then as we parted company the lads saw a second smaller Dolphin swimming with the bigger one..... so may be we will run Dolphin spotting trips now...lol but what a real treat and a privilege it was to have them as company for an hour... we got some video of them as did some of the guys who have promised to send it over, I will see if I can up-load it later...
(Just a few of the Bass caught in the last few days

Fishing Report by Ryan Casey
on Meerkat (Weymouth, Dorset)

Report on-board Meerkat
Well the news we've all been waiting for did we catch any sharks or not? and the answer is yes but not just 1 or 2 we had 13 boated in the end with 3 runs also dropped, a total of 9 blues up to 65/70lb and 4 porgies up to 45/50lb and we also seen 4 Tuna whilst we was fishing away. An experience I will never forget and hopefully many more trips down this way with new groups to show them what it's all about.
View Boats Page
A lot of time and preparation this year went into trying to find something new we could offer for our anglers aboard Meerkat and being the first boat to figurer these sort of trips out makes me the first group to try it extremely proud of what we have achieved after only one day shark fishing and two days trying new things around Dartmouth, we've done extremely well on what we have achieved. I would just like to thank the group I had for this trip for coming to Weymouth to travel west and trusting me that I wasn't just a mad man trying something stupid also everyone behind the scenes who helped getting all the little things ready what made it all come together and a massive thank you to Mike Wallis from Wally's Shark rigs who is now a proud sponsor of Meerkat and is supplying us with some of the best quality shark traces you're money can buy and he will be supplying for all of our future shark trips for all our sharking needs.
If you are looking for 3/4/5 day trips for the future this is the way to go, this would be a rough lay out of what we would be offering.
Day 1 Plaice fishing on the skerries and bait fishing for the sharks.
Day 2/3 Targeting the Sharks, all sharking gear will be provided on all these trips. The aim is for everyone to catch a shark and to try have no blanks, so the rods will be shared around in a friendly way to ensure everyone has a chance.
Day 4 travelling home and trying the wrecks for Pollock and Bass.
Sorry for all the writing but proud and over excited is the right way to put it.
If you fancy having ago next year I do have limited spaces available or if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

***** SHARK TRIPS 2018 *****
View Boats Page
We can now safely say we can offer Shark trips aboard Meerkat anything from 3 to 5 days away to Dartmouth.
Rough lay out on what to expect on a 4 day trip away to this amazing bit of coast line.
Day 1 Bait/ Ground bait fishing for the Sharks then a drive to the Skerries bank for some Plaice fishing and we are only a 20 minute drive to the harbour then.
Day 2/3 it will be all about the Sharks leaving in between 7/8 and returning any where between 5/7pm and i will have a restaurant already booked for when we get back for dinner if you want to join us. If the weather is to bad for Shark fishing we will stay around Dartmouth and target all the mixture fishing, Pollock, Plaice, Conger, Huss etc but the aim is to get everyone into a Shark at some point.
Day 4 Home time:( on the way home we will stop for some fresh mackerel for your tea and if there are plenty top up my ground bait bin, then off to the wrecks to try for some Pollock and Bass.
The days may change around a little depending on length of trip and also the weather but are main aim is for everyone to have a great and enjoyable time away with no stress involved.
All Shark gear will be supplied at no extra cost and ground bait will be provided free of charge. If for some reason we cant get enough ground bait before your trip an extra little cost will be asked for so we can buy you some fresh fish for are ground bait mixture but its a maximum of £15pp and that is last resort.
We will have 9 on the boat to keep the cost down for everybody and there will be 6 rods out for the Sharks so i will be managing a time schedule so its fair for everybody. If we are coming to the end of the day and there are a coupe of people with no fish then we will let them have ago and if that doesn't work on the second day they will be on the rods first. The aim is for everyone to have ago and to keep it as fair and as cheap as possible. as we are fishing for the Sharks and its not your turn i am happy for you to fish on the bottom for the Whiting/ Gurnards or Mackerel as long as they are not catching are other rods.
I can book all B&B for you but if you fancy finding some where your self just ask and ive got a big recommendation list.
Prices for a 3 day trip is £250pp, 4 days £340pp, 5 days £420 or for a Whole boat booking £750 a day. Please allow on top for your B&Bs.
If you have any questions about these type of trips please feel free to ask on 07776182782 or ryancasey1@hotmail.com
Dates in 2018 for these time of trips.
July 16th to the 19th 4 day trip. 5 Spaces available
October 8th to the 11th 4 day trip. 1 Space available
If i get enough interest for a 3 day trip i will start one off.
