    Report on-board Hard Labour

Well the last couple of months have been fishing their socks off. Excellent numbers and sizes of smoothounds caught with multiple double figure fish caught each day. Biggest so far this season is a shade over 18lb, but there is always the chance of those elusive 20lb fish. In the last month or so we have done a couple of way offshore sortees with good results on the plaice. The Tope fishing hasnt really kicked off in ernest this season although we have had them to just over 33lb.

Now the Bass ban has been lifted, we have started to target the bass with great success. plenty of fish in the 2 to 8lb bracket, but by far the best specimen locally this season is a 14lb 2oz beauty caught by the skipper. Yes she swam off happily too, no point in killing breeding stock in our eyes.

We are now offering our evening trips as and when required at a reduced rate from full day charter.

We look forward to seeing our loyal customers on the boat soon and welcome any newcomers who have not fished with us before

  • 07/07/2017 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

7 Jul 2017 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

Summer has arrived and with it plenty of Mackerel to lures, Skate and Hounds to baits. The water has warmed so much that the doggies are feeling uncomfortable and have been replaced with varying sizes of Mackerel and Bass. Herring remains the most reliable bait with lugworm coming in second, Alan has been out with his push net and we have had live prawns some days always a favourite bait for the Smoothounds. Still some weekend and week days available on Duke lV so call me up and let's go fishing..

    Report on-board Obsession

Well with a absolutely glorious weekend we headed down to the Skerries for a relaxing couple of days Flattie fishing and what a fantastic couple of days we had.
The Sun was out, almost no wind and the Sea was nice and clear so perfect conditions really.
Saturday seen the crew land around 30 Plaice upto about 2lb with a beautiful Undulate ray also putting in an appearance.
Sunday was a bit of a Busmans Holiday with just the 3 of us on board Colin, Kev W and Kev J enjoying a bit of sport ourselves and again between us we had around 30 Plaice with 20 keepers out of them, needless to say Colin reigned supreme and was even pulling them in 2 at a time, so a very enjoyable weekend was had.

More inshore trips planned so will keep you all updated

  • 06/07/2017 Fishing Report by Phil White on Chinook 3 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

6 Jul 2017 by Phil White

    Report on-board Chinook 3

The last few days have been calm and sunny and this has allowed the charter boats to get offshore and enjoy some cracking sport.

There has been a big influx of mackerel to all offshore areas; these super little fish are providing some great sport over the slack water when we would otherwise be waiting for the tide to turn.

There are a lot more smoothounds showing up, a lot of these fish are 7-8lb with a few better ones in certain areas, best baits are hermit and peeler but ragworm works well.

There have been some lovely bass caught this week with the best reported at 14lb, this fish was returned alive. We had fish up to 9lb on the Chinook with most boats seeing bass on a daily basis, best baits are squid for the bigger fish and worm baits for the smaller fish inshore.

The thornbacks are still in good numbers offshore with some big fish still around. We had our biggest thornie on Wednesday at 13lb; it was a big fish and would have been 16lb plus in the spring before it had spawned.

Inshore is quieter now that the thornbacks have moved offshore, there are still a few around in some areas. There are plenty of school bass in the Estuaries if you can get out of the weed which seems bad this year inshore.

Prospects are excellent, there is a lot of bait fish in the water and this will bring more fish into the Estuary.

    Report on-board Channel Warrior

We have been getting a lot of good conger fishing on the wrecks lately 40-50 off just one wreck up to 60lb. All conger caught are released. On the small tides when other fish play hard to get, the conger gives a good days sport . If you fancy having a bash at them , give me a call.

    Report on-board Wave Dancer

FINALLY the wind (we thought) had dropped so we were off to sea. We dropped the hook surrounded by charter boats. We settled into a mackerel fest with over 30 caught by me alone. Doggies and hounds landed along with a few surprises including the scary weaver fish with his poisonous spine and a type gurnard. With the wind and swell getting up we went for some protection from the wind and to look for some smoothies and tope. It was like a tope nursery with tope pups into double figures caught. Doggies, small rays, whiting and a nice 6lb smooth hound caught by the skipper. Fish of the day was definitely a 10.3lb smoothound caught my me.
