    **Channel Island Season is here**

A typical trip to the Channel Islands will be 4 or 5 days long. We leave Weymouth and head to the wrecks in the Channel. Evenings are spent ashore in the great little bars and restaurants of the island and crashing out in an island B+B - although great self catering options are available. Depending on the time of year, we explore the grounds around Alderney and Guernsey during the days.

All fish is kept fresh and in great condition on ice in our purpose built fish hold. We skilfully fillet all catch for table on the journey home to Weymouth.

We have availability for our September trip - the 11th to the 14th inclusive and would love to welcome you!

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Bringing us up to date fishing has vastly improved the skate seem to be about not in great numbers but enough. Well done to all my anglers for returning them think weve kept 2 in total also the smoothounds. Picture today is Dave Jones with our boat record smoothound of 15lb well deserved as Dave is one of our most regular anglers who has supported the High Flyer through all seasons it couldnt have gone to a more deserving person. Well done mate. No mackerel yet on the feathers or tope still bit early but we will keep after them concentrating on the smoothounds crab being most effective bait at the moment. Spotty diogs a pain at the moment still catching some large whiting inshore another pain but adds to the sport. As we head into mid to late June will be out on the banks then ready for few bass July 1st when we will start fishing for them. Night trips will be organised soon bit blowy this coming week will keep eye on weather for that. Dates filling up at weekends so get in for summer trips now or they will be gone midweek generally ok. So roll on warmer weather clearer water polish those pirks wont be long. Until then tight lines everyone. Jon (High Flyer)

  • 04/06/2017 Fishing Report by Phil White on Chinook 3 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

4 Jun 2017 by Phil White

    Report on-board Chinook 3

The last fortnight has seen a steady influx of summer fish whilst the thornbacks have just started to move offshore.

    Offshore

There are more hounds starting to show with some cracking fish amongst them. Best of the fish on Friday was a beauty of 15lb caught on our boat by Paul Beach, there were several other fish around 10lb or so and we also lost a couple of good fish.

All these fish were caught on hermit crab, all released unharmed.

There are more bass showing in all areas with reports of fish up to 10lb, these fish will take most baits including squid, mackerel, crab and worm, there have been reports of shoaling fish which will take feathers jigged up and down when the water is clear.

There are plenty of thornbacks in all areas, these fish will start to move further offshore in the next few weeks.

There are a few small tope showing and hopefully when the mackerel turn up there will be some bigger ones as well.

    Inshore

There are still stacks of thornbacks showing although there are signs they are starting to move offshore from some areas.

The piers are fishing well on the bigger tides for thornbacks, bass, dabs, whiting and odd sole with the top half of the tide always best.

There have been some big stingrays caught off the beaches with the best reported at around 47lb, these hard fighting rays like ragworm baits but will take squid and mackerel.

The Estuaries are fishing well for school bass although the weed is starting to be an issue, best off drifting for them with worm baits, there are still a few thornbacks and dabs coming out.

Prospects are excellent with more bigger hounds showing and there will soon be tope and mackerel as well.
