  • 29/04/2017 Fishing Report by Steve Green on Brigand (Brighton, East Sussex)

29 Apr 2017 by Steve Green

    Report on-board Brigand

We took a trip out to the banks Friday and it was one of those days where nothing came easy. Water was coloured inshore (which made bait collection a struggle) and even on the banks we had to be patient - eventually located a shoal of mackerel which mad a fine mess of a 12 feather trace! The day turned into something of a species hunt with just about everything but Turbot coming aboard the boat. Unfortunately for the crew this was the first time we have not had Turbot off of these marks and we did put in the miles - Nobody more disappointed than us and grateful for the crews understanding.

Saturday was a different story altogether - Beautiful day, sun beating down and with a crew of mixed experience, on a big tide the easy option would have been to anchor up with smelly baits and sit it out..... Very pleased that we took the harder option and visited a few wrecks that often deliver early season fish. We had a steady stream of Pollock to 8lb, Bass to 7lb (returned of course) and our first Cod off of the wrecks this year which fell to Steven. A great day which kept Nick and I busy on the net........ Goes to show that if your prepared to put in the effort and miles the wreck fishing is still excellent out of Brighton.

As the water temp increases the Cod should start to show in decent numbers on the offshore wrecks so if you would like to get aboard check-out our calendar and get in touch.

    Best wishes

  • 23/04/2017 Fishing Report by Colin Penny on Flamer IV (Weymouth, Dorset)

23 Apr 2017 by Colin Penny

    Report on-board Flamer IV

Simon Bailey and friends joined Flamer IV for a Turbot fishing trip and were not dissapointed. They caught several Turbot during their trip and returned most of them.Simon lost a big fish near the boat only to see fellow angler Michael Devenish land a 17Ib Turbot a short time afterwards, of course we all said it was the fish Simon lost which made him feel even worse.Only one of the group failed to catch a Turbot so only one "Blanker " on the boat that day. Michael Devenish is pictured with his 17Ib and Personal Best Turbot.

Hi just been let down on full charter booking, by guy called Jamie. Booked full boat then, told me some of his party can't make it. So could I do him a deal. Then rings back to say the rest can't make it because they got footie training. This guy is a total waste. His number is07523 658962, just in case he tries to waste another skippers time.

    Report on-board White Maiden II

Sorry for the late report on my website. One just can't get enough PR staff on the pay role.... I wish!

Due to some time tiday I have also copied the report with some recent catch photos to CBUK.

This weeks report from 'sea-fishing.net';The weather, crews and fishing have been really good over the last week with five trips, starting with an Individuals trip, last Wednesday. The lads found some nice Black Bream to 3lb 5oz, before a drift for Turbot where Pete tricked our target fish. We then had a go for a Plaice but lost the tide. On Friday the lads found a few Plaice on the drift (needs clear water, which we had) plus a bonus 13lb Undulate Ray on Plaice gear, at anchor, for Guy. In the second Friday short session trip, the crew from Devizes caught our first Mackerel of the year and some useful inshore Pollock. On Saturday the Sebastien and Simon crew patiently fished very well for Mackerel and Herrings on a stunning day at the Needles before attempting to clear a big wreck of large Pout. They had no chance of doing that. On Sunday we found a few more Mackerel and Herring plus some nice Bream. Here's some pictures of our excursions:

    Report on-board Flamer IV

While other anglers Flounder, Flamer IV anglers are happy Soles and a Dab hand at catching Plaice. A drifting session with ragworm and squid strip baits produced Plaice ranging from 2Ib 8oz to 2Ib 14oz. John Ingleton on his first trip aboard Flamer IV landed a Plaice weighing 2Ib 14oz on the last drift of the day which proved to be the biggest.John is pictured with his 2Ib 14oz Plaice.

  • 04/2017 Fishing Report by Scott Belbin on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)

    Apr 2017 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

Yet again its been too long since my last report on here. As ever we’ve been busy aboard the ‘Galloper’ with lots of people wanting to get out and enjoy the great weather we’ve been experiencing this spring. Nowadays spring time primarily means thorn-back rays (also known as roker) in the thames estuary. As is well publicised we are fortunate enough to have a well managed local population at the moment. Although we now catch them through out the year the thorn-backs are in their best numbers now with lots of big females coming inshore to breed and feed along with their smaller male counterparts. Although the weather doesn’t cost us many trips throughout the year we particularly benefit at this time of year when the thorn-backs can often be found in good numbers right into the sheltered waters of the black water estuary. We have been seeing great numbers of fish come aboard with 30-40 rays commonplace nowadays. There have been some good fish amongst them too with lots of heavily laden females being caught and of course always returned aboard the ‘Galloper’. Mixed in with the thorn-backs there are numbers of dogfish and whiting along with the odd pouting. The first few bass and smooth-hounds have shown in the last few weeks which is a sure sign that summers rapidly approaching.
To mix things up for my self as well as my anglers I still put the odd offshore trip in this time of year to target the brief run of spurdogs we have off here. I was lucky enough to happen upon a couple of marks for these getting on for 10 years ago now and have seen some decent fish come aboard over the years. On a recent trip off there with a group of regulars we found a few spurs, no monsters but some nice fish none the less with the biggest just shy of 12lbs. there was room for me to fish that trip which I always jump at the chance of being an obsessive angler my self. after getting the lads started in the morning with the first spurdog, I was lucky enough to realise a long awaited ambition of catching a blonde ray on my home grounds. She was no giant at just over 12lbs but I was very pleased to catch her . my luck really was in that day. We managed around 20 thorn-backs, a nice bass of 5-6lbs and a couple of pouting and whiting to go along with the constant stream of dogfish for the day.
Over the coming weeks we should continue to see good numbers of thorn-back rays as they start to creep further afield. We will see increasing numbers of smooth-hounds and bass mixed in with them until we make our first trips to target the smooth-hounds.
