Fishing Report by Rich Cope
on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

Report on-board Mistress
I finally bit the bullet and ventured out to the wrecks today, I was looking at the water all the way out and thought it looked hellish green, so wasn't totally confident we were doing the right thing.
We were all keen and fired up for it though, we had a back up plan of dropping back inside uptiding if things didn't run to plan.
It was a slow start with us getting 3 or 4 a drift (poutings that is!)
with a few moves around a few wrecks though things started falling into place with us getting 5 or 6 cod a drift at times to shads, as the tide picked up the fishing tailed off, but we'd managed to rattle a good few fish out for the lads to shads and bait.
I ventured back inside for the last hour to finish off the day at anchor and we were still catching the cod getting another 6 or 7 in the last hour, The best lad managed a respectable 9 fish for his efforts with us finishing up with around 50 keepers for the day for the boat.
So the signs are certainly there that summer is finally on the way, we're taking bookings now and the phone has been a bit busier this last few days with the weather starting to improve, we still have places available on the upcoming festival, starting next Saturday with a massive £1000 up for grabs.

Only a short trip today however what a great mornings fishing. The anglers lines had barely got wet when the first and biggest ray was hauled in followed by at least 6 more over the 4hour trip. Also caught 4 3lb+ codling. A couple of dabs and the biggest flounder I have seen. Last but not least ever present whiting.

Fishing Report by Philip Higgins
on Mistress Linda / San Gina3 (Poole, Dorset)

Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3
During a local angling club competition T Callaway who up to last month had never caught a Conger landed another big eel of 60lb on a 15lb class rod fishing for Rays, lots more eels were bought to the boat along with Blondes to 25lb B Honeybun and a bonus inshore Pollack of 10lb for A Johanson. Storm Doris bought chaos to any fishing for a few days with strong winds and very big seas but nowhere near as powerful as last winter’s storms which by this time had passed the letter I in the alphabet. The 1st weekend of March produced yet more strong winds but a brief weather window allowed a few hours fishing which for the time of year proved very successful with several Rays to 10lb lots of small Hounds and Dogs and 2 small Turbot. It is good to see the arrival of the Plaice, although on the thin side they are feeding and will soon be in good condition, each trip is seeing better numbers. On the outer marks Bull Huss Congers, Rays and Spurs to 23lb are being caught on regular basis and further off to sea the wrecks are producing some nice catches of Pollack up to 17lb. S Bullas and his group had a good day on the Pollack with some good double figure fish being landed and plenty of banter. As winter lets go and spring temperatures rise we will see the arrival of Bream , Gurnards, Turbot Brill and Mackeral followed by the predatory fish Bass Tope and Sharks.

Fishing Report by Phil White
on Chinook 3 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)
19 Mar 2017 by Phil White
Report on-board Chinook 3
The last fortnight has seen a big influx of thornback rays into all the inshore areas in the Thames Estuary. These fish are early this year but with the lack of cod they are very welcome.
We are starting to see some big female rays with one reported at 20 lb last week, the best we saw on Saturday was a whopper caught by Peter Hudson at 16 lb. Not only was this his best thronback but his biggest ever fish. All the females are carrying eggs and should be returned alive.
Best baits are herring, squid, mackerel and most other fishy baits, remember to use heavy traces and strong hooks as the trace quite often gets caught around their spines and tail.
The piers and shore marks are fishing well for thornbacks, whiting and dabs with the bigger tides best, mid flood to mid ebb usually. Quite often this time of year you see some different species like gurnards or other flatties.
Offshore has been good for thornbacks, whiting and dabs with some dogfish turning up, best baits are squid and herring although if you want a chance of a spurdog then mackerel is very good as well. These hard fighting sharks give good sport and are protected so should be returned alive. They can grow up to 25 lb or so
Prospects are excellent, there will be some spurdogs turning up in a few offshore places soon, lots more thornbacks and odd bass.View Boats Page

Fishing Report by Sam Cumming
on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

Report on-board Silver Spray II
I'll pick up where I left off in the last report, we have completed our first few wreck trips to target the pollock. The first drift of the year is proving hard to beat with Jamie Hayes landing a monster of 17lb 8oz, Andy Hayden catching the years first ling and Bob Morrison boating his first of 3 doubles that day. Fishing has been steady on all the trips out to the wrecks, clarity in the water is still very good and we should get a good few more weeks before the bloom comes in and the pollock become a bit more elusive for a while and we focus on the cod. Elsewhere we have had our first trip down to the shambles, plenty of sand eels on the feathers but only a few turbot to show for our efforts. The fishing will pick up as we move on into April and the temperature rises again. And finally the offshore banks have been producing some enormous hits of spur dogs, nothing too big yet, but a few fish around the 20lb mark show that the big ones are on their way. Although the weather has kept us in mostly over the last few weeks we are looking forward to more of the same over the next month on the fishing front.

Mar 2017 by Dave Elliott
Report on-board Ocean Warrior 3
We have managed to get out this week to the offshore wrecks.
They have produced some double figured Pollock even though it was a big tide.
The wrecks fished well.
Looking forward to the next calm spell to get back out to the deep water wrecks.View Boats Page
