    Report on-board Mistress

We are still smashing the Cod here at Whitby, between the three of us on Friday we managed the best part of 40 codlings.

There appears to have been a fresh run of codlings all 2-4lb, with a few better ones thrown in.
Best Angler took 15 himself, but everyone walked away with a double figure bag.
The best bait remains crab cart, but good quality black lug and dirty squid has been catching them too,

Tomorrow (Monday) is a really good forecast, again were looking into a day and a night trip, we have spaces for both,
The day trip will be 730-1630 and cost £45 per person, 5 places remaining,
The night trip will be 1700-2200 and will cost £30, 4 places remaining,

  • 12/2016 Fishing Report by Sam Cumming on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

    Dec 2016 by Sam Cumming

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

In the last monthly report I had a little grumble about the lack of mixed fish coming to the net on our cod trips. I'm happy to say it all changed fairly rapidly, only a couple days later I was eating my words as we landed about 70 congers in one day in between a few cod, I'm not sure I have ever seen so many congers in one sitting before. As well as the snakes, they have quietened down a bit since that day, we have seen the start of the whiting on the patches of sand off Poole. Gerry Reed's 3lb 4oz fish is leading the charge with that at the moment with plenty of fish around the 2lb mark taking the mackerel baits as well. On a recent trip Pete Knight braved some stiff south-westerly winds and was rewarded with a 10lb cod, 14lb pollock and new PB bass of 10lb 4oz all in one day. Probably our biggest of the year so far. Our last mention this month goes to Ed Braund who managed a 18lb 4oz undulate on light tackle followed on the next drop by a 22lb blonde, 40lb of ray in 2 drops not a bad way to start your day. From all of us at Silver Spray Charters thanks for making 2016 such a great year, merry Christmas and tight lines for 2017.

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

The Flounder fishing from Poole is very patchy with the best being towards the upper reaches of the Wareham Channel, today we landed several fish up to 2lb the bigger fish are still eluding us along with plenty of small Bass. The Bay marks are fishing well for Whiting, the Cod fishing will be at its best over the next couple of weeks.
If you wish to go fishing as an individual or group I am operating trips daily exc 25th and 26th Dec.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

  • 12/2016 Fishing Report by Ross Parham on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)

    Dec 2016 by Ross Parham

    Report on-board Spot On!

Since Novemner 'Spot On' has only been out on a few trips due to the constant easterly winds that have been hammering our south Devon coastline, when we have got out the wreck fishing has again been good with plenty of hard fighting Pollock with the odd cod thrown in for good measure.
Other surprise catches have been a fair amount of large tub gurnards taken the lures which is nice to see.

I hope this weather will give us a break soon as I cant wait for the larger Pollock to turn up and I don't think they are too far away as we have been having steady catches of 9lb+ fish with a few mid doubles on most trips.

By far the best lure so far this year has to be the sidewinder Skerries Eels which have just been superb taking Cod and Pollock alike and has fished constantly.

Thanks to sidewinders for continuing to develop these great new lures that keep the fish coming to the net.

I have started to upload my pictures of some of the great fish caught in 2016 on board 'Spot On' and as you will see its been another bumper year and I would like to thank all my anglers for there continued support to myself and the great port of Brixham.

2017 diary is all but full and already been asked for 2018 dates which is mad!!

Spot On is still the only catamaran operating from Brixham, a few dates left for 2017 so get in fast if you want them.

I would like to wish newcomer Paul Bowden with his boat 'Off The Hook' good luck with his venture and for bringing more anglers to the port which shows Brixham is fast becoming the great charter port it once was and adding another fine vessel to Brixham's charter fleet, I look forward to working with the new boats in some competitions which will be planned in the new year so watch this space and if interested please get in touch.

Pictured is a fine 15lb December winter Pollock caught on a pearl sidewinder lure.

  • 13/12/2016 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

13 Dec 2016 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

We had a hell of a day and night yesterday here Whitby with two very successful trips. With not being at sea for a few days it was great to get back at it and find our anglers a few nice fish!

Following on for our post the other day, we've had interest for a trip this coming Friday, which we are currently taking bookings on now, the trip will be approx. 9 hours and £45 per person. I do have hire tackle available if required and I can sort out a bait package at a competitive price too.

We were overwhelmed with the response to the night trip, so we will be running another next week, when its suitable, the night trips are approx. 6 hours and cost £30 per person, experience in fishing at night is essential and a good quality headlamp is a must, tip light can be supplied if required.

We are currently taking bookings to for trips between boxing day and new years eve, if you want to try out your new christmas fishing gear!

If you fancy a trip with me on Mistress, give me a call on 07977 436903
