I thought I'd do a little reminder of last year's plaice fishing. We had a couple of sessions on them in late spring and early summer. The stamp wasn't huge but the numbers were there and probably the best I've seen for over 15 years. There were plenty of double shots of plaice and various other species mixed in too. We tried to combine it with some bass fishing at one end of the day or the other as well. If you want to join us for some of this fishing or on one of our general trips please get in touch with me and I can offer specific dates and tides.

It's been great to see a nice mix of fish coming out on our general trips despite the weather. There have been some nice hounds, bass and rays showing as well as the usual dogs, whiting and other bits and bobs. There's no shortage of bites to keep the rods going and thankfully we can still get out to our many sheltered marks in this weather. I have spaces over the weekend and into next week so please get in touch if you want to join us.

Fishing Report by Rich Ward
on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)
3 Apr 2024 by Rich Ward
Report on-board Shy-Torque III
Yesterday’s weather and sea conditions were absolutely perfect for us on the water.
View Boats Page
Our mixed group, Bill, Paul, Si, Talon, Paul and Malc and his mate joined us for another run out to the “Hills” where we worked last Sunday.
Not a lot of drift yesterday to be fair with the tides on the neap side at 4.3m, which made coverage of the ground tricky.
With so little movement in the water, we basically had to find the feed marks and pick away at them.
Not the quantity of fish like Sunday, but a good 50+ fish boated with a couple of doubles thrown in too.
The usual juveniles going back safely to fight another day.
One or two slightly better fish yesterday (still not big) at around the 6lb mark.
All in all, a really great day on the water with the lads and I thank you all for your continued custom with us.
Some rubbish weather again now so looking like the boat with be tethered for some considerable time, which is so annoying when we know there’s a few fish out there for us.
Ah well, such is the nature of the game.
To book any trips, give me a call or drop me a text, or email me.
Individuals are always welcome.
Cheers
Rich.

Report on-board DAWN TIDE II
We have Been seeing Bass for a good few weeks but the numbers have really ramped up on the last few trips & just in time too!
View Boats Page
I am going to start targeting them more now the season is open. Regulations state -
(1st April -31st December 2 bass per person, per 24hours, 42cm & over)
It wont be long until we start hitting them on the lures & Jigs a really effective & exciting way to fish for Bass.
But For now its all been happening on the worm baits a few bigger ones have come on the squid recently too.
please bring worm baits & lure kits if you have them & your due out its a must!
This Bass season is going to be an absolute cracker!!
The hounds are increasing in numbers & sizes steadly. Some days are better than others but that’s normal.
Soon they will be up in the shallows in huge packs providing manic sport!
The Rays seem very very low in numbers in our area its a real shame as they were taken for granted & made up the bulk of our catch during spring. Unfortunately for the moment the days of boating 100 plus rays in a trip seem to be a distant memory they are around but nothing like they used to be!
Spurdogs are being reported now too… if you fancy a trip chasing them let me know they aren’t too far away. There has been some caught locally so Who knows they might move in local again!!!
looking forward to the season ahead as always availability is tight now diary is busy but contact me on 07523 488290 & il do my best to get you on! www.dawntidecharterfishing.co.uk
Thanks everyone -

Thankfully the fishing has been pretty good inshore on some of the windy days lately. The lads saw some decent rays amongst the whiting and dogfish along with some decent bass for the time of year and so close in. It's good to know that we can put you on some quality fish in most conditions now. There have been bass on most trips lately and as of today you can keep two per angler per day until the end of December (should you be lucky enough to catch them).

Mixed fortunes for the guys on board.
On Saturday, Shamick, his wife Eveline and their two friends had chartered the boat for themselves and we struggled with the fishing all day to be fair.
Conditions weren’t ideal at the start of the day either with a fresh SSW blowing, lifting the lines at angles unsuitable for the job.
The fresher breezes always hindering the fishing on the drift.
At the end of the day we had boated just 7 Codling, a few Pouting and a couple of Whiting.
Nevertheless, even with the poor fishing, we maintained the good banter and the four of them really enjoyed the day with some good sunshine and mild temperatures for a change!
Yesterday’s team were welcomed with some good clear skies and very light winds.
Whilst we waited for the 7.0am bridge to open, we chatted about the previous days fishing and the options for the day.
I said that the offshore marks didn’t really fish too well either the last time out there which was over a week ago, but if they fancied it, we could go investigate those areas again.
They were all up for it so off we went.
We marched out to a strip of ground 20 miles East of the harbour which my Dad and me used to fish, know as the “Hills”
A good long strip which is around 1 mile long on the ebb tide.
On the first drift across it (not the full 1 mile) we had boated over a dozen fish (all small) but nevertheless, a dozen!
After the previous day this was great, with the rods twitching all the time!!
Up and down the drift produced fish every time, some more than others granted, and by the end of the day Gary Jones and me reckoned the count must be nudging 100 fish.
A good few “doubles” coming aboard too.
The usual undersized fish being safely returned.
We didn’t see a fish much over 4lb but the numbers made up for the lack in sizes.
Nice to hit a mark where you can sit and pick away all day without moving.
A distinct contrast on Saturdays efforts!
Like we always say, never 2 days alike in this game.
We are now looking forward to getting back to that area on our next trip out on Wednesday hopefully if the weather permits.
Cheers for now everyone and keep a tight line wherever you’re fishing.
Rich

Today saw the very 1st trip of the 2024 Rhyl Season for a 5hr Individuals sailing at 10:15.
We departed Rhyl and headed East to see what we could hook and the weather at the time was mild and calm.
Once we got on location we dropped the anchor, put the kettle on and dropped our baited lines down to see what we could summon.
Not long in the 1st Whiting came on board followed by a very early Smooth-Hound which is a promising site so early in the year.
As the fishing was quite steady we stayed at this spot in the hope we may get a few Bull Huss over the slack and even maybe a Ray or two.
As the tide eased right off we had our 1st Huss and the young chap was made up with seeing Starfish and Whelks clinging to the baits and passing on his extensive knowledge of them 'he knows his stuff' fare play to him.
As the tides started to pick up on the ebb we noticed a considerable change in the fishing and the catches were coming on more. By this time we had already had Whiting, Dab, Dogfish, Smooth-Hound, Bull Huss and soon the 1st Ray.
A 10min squally shower late on didn't damped our day and then a a decent Huss was hooked and as the net was grabbed it was lost at the surface.
Our 5hrs of fun was then shortly up and we head back to Rhyl Harbour.
Not a bad 1st trip of the season at all.

There's been a few more hounds and bass showing closer in over the last few trips. The lads from Suffolk police had the most hounds lately with 14 for the day though nothing huge. The bass are increasing in numbers too and there are some nice rays coming out too. Of course if you are really lucky then you could catch a whiting or dogfish!
