  • 24/08/2016 Fishing Report by Phil White on Chinook 3 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

24 Aug 2016 by Phil White

    Report on-board Chinook 3

The fishing over the last fortnight has improved with the start of the autumn influx of thornbacks.

There have been good numbers of Smooth Hounds showing, these bigger female hounds are coming off the shallow water and are on their way out of the Estuary soon, however there are plenty of the smaller male hounds and these will be around until well into October.

There have been several good bass reported with some over 10 lb, these fish will be around well into the Autumn, September is a good time to catch these hard fighting fish as they shoal up before heading off for the winter, best baits are lug, rag and squid.

There are a lot more Thornbacks starting to show up, these smaller fish will spread to all areas during the autumn and will stay until after the New Year, depending on how cold it gets.

There are a few whiting starting to show, these fish will steadily increase in numbers as we get into the autumn with the Cod arriving around early October although the exact timing is dependent on water temperature.

Prospects are excellent with the next few weeks providing a real mix of summer and autumn fish.

  • 16/08/2016 Fishing Report by TERRY BATT on Vanishing Point-2 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

16 Aug 2016 by TERRY BATT

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

We didn't go this weekend with high winds and monster tides against the wind all day it was decided that fishing is something to be enjoyed not endured,,! and it was a decision our parties were happy with, as I know if I had said we were going they would have turned up, but it is not all about the money..
We have had some great fishing over the last week though hound to just shy of 20 lbs, Bass to 4 & 5 lbs and we had the pleasure of our good old friend Nigel Farage out with us on Tuesday, recovering from his 17 year long hard fought campaign with Europe, and if you look closely at the photos you can see Nigel sporting his new fishing rod his friend made for him made in
UKIP colours and put it to good use.
Nigel's son Tom is a very accomplished angler, and grabbed glory right at the end, of the day ( chip off the old block) with a good 14 lbs Smoothound and with the rest of the guests on board were treated to the most fantastic lunch put on by my very good friend and crewman Colin Pryor, it was a luncheon fit for a King..! many thanks Colin.
Well when the boys did some Clay shooting Nigel was quite good, but got his butt kicked by his son Tom ...lol it was a great day with great friends ending as we always do at the pub..! yes we all went round to the Green Man in Bradwell Waterside to see our very good landlord Micheal who welcomed us all, and cheekily got Mr Farage to pull a pint,
,(which he was as good at pulling a pint as well as drinking it..!)
The rest of the week was just as productive with lots of good fish in the right places.... Tight lines

  • 18/08/2016 Fishing Report by Ian Dale on Kelley's Hero Charters (Gosport, Hampshire)

18 Aug 2016 by Ian Dale

    Report on-board Kelley's Hero Charters

August has been a funny month so far, but then again it always is.
We started the month with a good run of mackerel and a few different species showing to where we are now with the inshore trips being hard work.

As the inshore trips are now getting harder, we have decided to focus our trips on the Plaice fishing. We have done a few Plaice trips this month with many nice plaice showing. Along with Plaice we have had a nice few Brill and turbot. This is nice to see as last year we only had 2 brill altogether, and this year we are doing this per trip.

The last plaice trip we did, didn’t end very well for us as the boat decided it was going to spring a leak, and as many of you know this is never good on a boat, so we had to head in early. We had a great start to the day though, the weather was calm, the sun was shining and the plaice were biting.

We have done 2 inshore trips this month so far. The first one which was earlier in the month wasn’t as hard as the latest one. We have had species such as smoothounds, undulates, thorn backs, blondes, and small eyed rays, bream, mackerel, plenty of scad and tope.
The second trip was very hard work and we only had a handful of mackerel, scad, 2 dogfish and a smoothound.

Two other trips we did this month so far, were the Cowes week fireworks, and a half day trip.
We headed up towards Cowes for some mackerel fishing, before heading to our spot to watch the fireworks and eat our hot dogs. We caught a few mackerel scad and a herring.

The half day trip produced many dogfish, a nice thornback ray and some smoothounds. The mackerel weren’t playing again but the scad were. The only thing we have noticed about the mackerel we have had this year is that they have been perfect bait size.

Looking forward at the weather it looks like we are going to have to cancel our evening trips that we had scheduled and our last wrecking trip of the season. We will be putting on another evening trip or two but not another wrecking trip. Seems our bait freezer is going to have to stay full for another few days.

We will be mainly plaice fishing for the remainder of August, if you would like a chance to catch a nice plaice, brill or the odd turbot, then please call on 07795 538933

    Ian :-)
