Malcolm and the lads had a nice trip between the 3 of them the other day. There were a few bigger female rays mixed in which looks like the start of the spring run. They had 15 rays all together as well as dogfish, whiting, pouting and codling. Hopefully the building tides will push some more fish in for the weekend. We have spaces Saturday and the full boat available Sunday 10th . If you want to join us please call me on 07956412528

The cod are in! Look at this giant tony caught. Possibly a skrei cod following the herring down lol. In reality it was small but perfectly formed and offers hope for years to come. The rays aren't in huge numbers but we have been finding a few between the whiting, dogfish, pouting, dabs and hounds so there's plenty to catch at the moment.

We are pinching just an odd day at sea at the moment in between days of windy weather.

Yesterday, we decided to be the Guinea pigs and run offshore to a few wrecks to see if there was any improvement from our last trip out there some 3-4 weeks ago.
A perfect forecast and perfect conditions should have allowed for some decent fishing but sadly they weren’t playing for us.
Our first stop was on a bit of scrap on the 9 mile ground resulting in nothing!
Two or three drops on the ground and we saw just a handful of chuck backs.
Decisions, decisions, which way to go.
We’d been watching what looked like a rig some distance to the North of us and in the direction of a bit of wreckage I was thinking of trying. We were talking about how far away it was from us.
Four, five, six miles were guessed, but when I put the radar on, it sounded at a shade over 8 miles. Exactly where the wreck was so we decided on a couple of different ones in a slightly different direction.
These produced just a handful of fish and things were looking a bit desperate!
I looked on my shipping A.I.S and found out the name of the vessel out at the back of us.
It was a “Jack-up” rig called “Voltaire”
A colossal ship just short of 200 meters in length.
I radioed the skipper and asked him for his intentions and was told that they were on trials and we were welcome to fish the wreck they were close to.
On arrival, the Voltaire was just 500 meters from us and this generated a lot of interest for the lads.
A good thing as the fishing here wasn’t very interesting!! Around 10 fish from this piece of wreckage.
At the end of the day we had managed to boat a meagre 15-20 fish with a couple of those going back over the side.
Because the weather was on our side, morale was held at a fairly high point all day with the usual Shy-Torque craic and banter helping us along!!
Thanks to everyone for joing us and we look forward to seeing you again soon, hopefully with some better fishing.
Cheers for now,
Rich & Fergus.

Report on-board Brigand
Not often that we get the weather that enables us to get where we want to go at this time of year out of Brighton, today with near perfect conditions we had our pick of wrecks and the guys onboard made the most of it.
View Boats Page
Pete Stotesbury was top rod (that's not unusual!) with a personal tally of 13 high quality Pollock, the best nudging 13lb but everyone got in on the action with 40+ fish kept, plenty into double figures and no fishing trip is complete without a few of "The one that got away" tales! We had quite a few today including bite-offs on 25lb leader with some very hard fighting fish lost.
A beautiful day to be out on the Ocean with a wonderful crew, glorious sunshine , calm sea and plenty of high quality fish..... wreck fishing at its best, a huge thank you to all for a wonderful day.
Best wishes

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
It’s been great to get a few trips in recently, and today we had lovely weather conditions once again. With all the poor weather and the countless trips I’ve had to cancel, it was frustrating when a group of four people didn’t bother turning up today. I’m sure there were plenty of anglers who would have jumped at the chance to have a run out..…..
View Boats Page
That left plenty of room on deck for the other anglers, and we set about running South for a days Uptiding. Only a 4.5m tide today, so we targeted the areas where we get the most tide. Bait was a bit of a compromise, as the shop in Whitby didn’t have any Black Lugworm, so we had Squid, Mussels and Mackerel. We arrived at the first stop with about two hours or so of the Flood tide remaining.
Once we got everyone fishing properly a few bites started coming. Mainly small Codling and a few Dogfish, but they were fairly consistent and it didn’t take long for everyone to get off the mark. Just as we began to lose the tide Sergejs hooked something a bit better and dragged up a 7lb 4oz Codling which was nice to see and turned out to be the biggest fish of the day. Slack water wasn’t too bad today. The boat held pretty steady and a selection of Whiting, Pouting, Doggie’s and a couple of Codling came up to much smaller baits and hooks.
The Ebb Tide in the afternoon saw much the same as the morning. Andy Townend had a much better “second half” and caught consistently for the rest of the day. He took the only Pollock of the day as well as a token Lobster (which went straight back), plus some nice Codling which he gave away to the other lads.
The bites dried up a bit in the last hour, but I think that was mainly down to everyone running out of bait. I can’t emphasise enough how crucial good bait in quantity is for Uptiding. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day for me, spent in good company.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3
At last some decent weather and sun, on Saturday the wind created a massive swell that forced us to fish close to the Harbour, we caught 11 species including several decent sized Black Bream, Brill, Hounds, Gurnards , Plaice, Rays etc. Sunday saw flat calm seas, hard frost and clear skies at our 1st mark the dogs dominated with a couple of Brill and a few whiting , the next mark produced Rays Whiting and more dogs after another move and more dogs we returned to our 1st mark and added a Turbot to the list. Overall a really encouraging start to spring.

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
At the end of last week, I had the pleasure of Shaun Marchington, Bob Jones and Jack booking the boat for themselves. We’d had to cancel the three previous trips due to poor weather, so it was great to finally get them out.
View Boats Page
With there only being the three of them, I provided an extra rod each, so they could fish with two rods and they were also happy for me to fish as well (which I don’t ordinarily do on regular trips).
With a 5.2m tide, we chose to head North; running up towards Port Mulgrave and then working our way back to Whitby. Bait for the day was Squid, Black Lugworm, Mackerel or Prawns, but it turned out that Squid and Worm did the most bites as usual.
On arrival at our first stop, we had to wait a while for the Ebb Tide to push through, so we just set off fishing one rod as the boat was swinging around. The boys picked up a few small Codling, whilst I switched to a lighter setup, fishing 2/0 hooks baited with small bits of Squid, which actually brought plenty of bites from small Codling, Whiting, and a single Dogfish. Once the tide picked up, the boat held steady and we got stuck in with two rods each. The bites came fairly regularly for around an hour, with a few flushes of fish moving through, which was good to see.
Once it quietened down we moved on and at the next stop we had a frantic 30 minutes where we caught a fair few 3-4lb Codling which was nice, but then it just died a death. Interestingly, that turned out to be a pattern we identified later on in the day. Two spots we fished had a better average size of Codling, but died completely after 30 minutes or so and three other spots we fished did more bites for longer, but the average size was smaller.
Over the course of the day we caught Codling, Whiting, Haddock, Pollock, Coalfish, Pouting, Poor Cod, and Dogfish. With the exception of one grey bellied fish, every other Codling we caught was absolutely pristine, bright white bellied and fresh run, which hopefully bodes well for the coming trips.
The lads were fantastic company and before we knew it, the day had flown by and it was time to head for home. Thanks boys, see you next time.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

So guys looking forward to a break from all this lovely british weather constant wind and rain enough to test saints patience! We should start in next few weeks see few more thornbacks arrive along with the spotty dogs i know there a pain but break any boredom! i very much doubt we get a spring codling run your guess is as good as mine but past history leads me to believe we wont. Tons of herring and sprats around so will be stocking up on bait in next coming days if we can get out. The tope trips this year fall mainly on weekdays with few weekends just way tides are this year. This leaves us bass to go for during the stronger tides so not a bad thing. The tope dates will be on here july, Aug Sep so get your name down as fill quickly best to text me 07920043979 will get message soon as back inshore reception. We are running at £60 per day everything supplied on a normal trip and still £75 for tope havent put any prices up fuel seems to have levelled out for time being thank god. New legislation requires all mackerel caught for bait being kept alive as offence to have undersize fish onboard at anytime i know what your thinking so we will be running tanks to adhere so be aware and we will keep the frozen undersize that we buy separate to save confusion thanks IFCA. Well looking forward to being of service lets hope weather plays ball this year! until then tight lines
