Fishing Report by Andy Savage

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
It’s been great to string a few days together this week....

We started on the biggest Spring Tides and through the week they have progressively dropped away. I haven’t been doing daily reports because to be honest, the fishing hasn’t been sensational.
On Tuesday and Wednesday the fishing was a bit more consistent. We ran south both days using the last of the Flood Tide to good effect, then working back to Whitby on the Ebb Tide. A pattern emerged over the two days, which saw only odd fish when the tide was at full strength, but as soon as it began to ease there would be a good spell with multiple fish coming up in quick succession.
The best bait during the full speed tide was definitely Crab Cart or Live Lugworm. I fished two rods on Wednesday, one on Cart and one on Squid and Black Lug. The Cart Bait was always first to go when the tide was at its peak, and the other bait was generally left alone. Once the tide eased, both rods worked equally as the fish switched on to feed more vigorously.
Thursday and Friday proved to be much harder work. The tides were falling and the wind strength increased a bit which meant that the boat swung on the anchor more as the tide ran into slack water, which is always tougher to fish. We had quite a few inexperienced Uptiders on this week (as well as some old Sweats!) and I always like to try and get everyone fishing properly. It was pleasing to see how the lads improved throughout each day and I knew that if the fish were feeding with any gusto, they would get bites.
The difference on Thursday and Friday was the lack of fish moving through. Moving multiple times each day, there would be a few initial bites, but then it just died a death. We kept on the move, but it was frustratingly hard work and I couldn’t deliver the number of fish I hoped to, which was disappointing for me. Each day we managed Codling up to around 5lb, but the chunks evaded capture…for now!!
I must say a big thank you to all the anglers who have joined us this week. There was great conversation and plenty of banter. I saw lads who I’ve cancelled multiple times over the winter, so it was fantastic to catch up again.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Well to say the least the weather gods were not with us last spring and summer, but the times we did get out, they were good, we had great caches of targeted species, Pollock and Bass, and Codling, along with Red/Tub Gunard, Wrasse, and 4 other species.
The best fish of the year for Pollock around 10lb, along with 5 other 8 sizeable pollock on the same trip.
The best bass of the year fell to Martin 7lb 9oz on mid surface lure over rock terrain.
we had lots of new crews which were some of the enjoyable moments with smiles lighting up the dull skys with there first ever catches, and our regualr crews who along with loads banter had great days out.
as we look forward to next spring summer , we are doing 6 hour trips during the week in March and April for combined target fish of Bass and Pollock, or anything else that fancies a munch on rubber or metal lures.
family groups are always welcomed on board, so if you have an Xbox fanatic , get them to have break and book a trip out with us,
Lastly,
Thank you to everyone who booked with us and for your understanding in which was a very strange year weather wise. We look forward to welcoming everyone on board in 2024.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Brighton Lure Boat

Personally i found the Fishing i the area on the slow side since the bass thinned out in November
I have Been out several times over the last few weeks No big numbers of Codling showing yet just the odd one but don’t rule the Codling out just yet they may move inn the closer we move to spring!
We have had some size rays recently not loads of fish but reasonable ones. The numbers of rays should really start to increase as we move forward from this point.
We Had a few small schoolie bass on the last couple of trips locally but remember its catch a release until 31st march then 2 per angler over 42cm.
The bass fishing should be in full swing once it opens! they haven’t really moved too far this winter so I suspect a early start to the season if it stays mild.
The hounds should start showing locally in march as always & them spurdogs may show offshore around that time too hopefully the spurs move closer inn during April & may like previous seasons.
Basically from now onwards the fishing is going to start picking up with general mixed trips planned along with cod trips, ray trips, hound trips, spurdog trips, & Bass trips all In the diary from now too the end of spring. Then its onto the summer fishing!!!
Looking forward to the season ahead
My diary is looking very busy march onwards

Report on-board Silver Halo
I've not run any public charters since December 2023 and will start again properly in March 2024 but I have got out with friends and family several times in Jan 2024 and the fishing has been good with pollock to 15lb and bass to over 8lb being caught in just a few trips on the best weather days.

There are NO NETS ON THE WRECKS so it's looking like we could have a decent season with some bigger fish being caught!
Whilst I've been less busy onboard with helping clients etc I've been able to fish myself and get some great use out of my new JOKER jigs and lures. I've also created several videos and there up on my new utube channel so please take a look. There's some good fish and plenty of tips on Slow Pitch Jigging.
I look forward to seeing you soon!
Thanks MattUPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Silver Halo

Report on-board Piscary
Got out this week for the February round of the Piscary Super League.Once again it was 2 very different days.On Thursday we had 8 species on the boat. Absolutely stunning weather but a biggish tide so we spent the morning inshore where we had an unbelievable amount of Whiting with the odd Dog and Blonde Ray.As soon as it was possible with the tide we headed off to a new mark offshore which I've been wanting to try and although it was a bit snaggy the Congers Spurdogs,Tope and Bullhuss were queuing up to be caught
