  • 28/04/2016 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

28 Apr 2016 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

We have actually managed a day at sea this week, The water has been well and truly churned up with the last northerly, so I gave it a last attempt at the Uptiding figuring the last blow over the spring tides would have coloured the water up well offshore making the wrecking very hard work indeed.

The day started out very cold, with last nights frost still very visible on the boat windows. It didnt take long though for the sun to burn through it and turn the day warm for us, there was virtually no wind all day too making it a very pleasant day at sea.

I knew it might be hard work for the boys, but I knew we’d more than likely muster up a few fish for the lads.
As it turned out we managed fish at most of the marks we fished, we were just picking away at concentrated pockets of fish. Picking a few up then moving and picking, and we moved a good few times throughout the day finishing on the rock top.
Most of the fish were around 2lb but we had a few fish around the 4lb stamp and the best tipped the scales at a healthy 7lb.

    Report on-board Amatheia

Fishing was hard today, big tide and a swell in the sea from the day before, we visited a number of wrecks which were all fishing slow, but by the end of the day we managed to boat some pollock and the first cod of the year, would like to thank all the anglers for there effort to bring fish abroad.

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Left early this morning headed out 9 miles to a favourite old wreck of mine just to see what water colour was and if any cod about in 140ft . After a few drifts producing nothing decided to hook into it at slack hovering above on grapnel expecting few fish unfortunately not a pouting couldnt believe it not a sausage! Nothing touched the baits so went onto a bank few miles further out nothing but few flatties 15 mile out , wind started to pick up so came right inshore in the Would taking a hour to get in! Bass pictured here with Ian came in straight away followed by flatties few spotty dogs and usual whiting. Only one small smoothound today no skate for us which i did expect but thats fishing. Moved few times back up the coast catching much of the same everywhere mixed back to keep us occupied but shows lots of miles out to sea doesnt mean more fish as everyone thinks! Thanks to lads for getting up early and home late hope wife understands! Blame me as usual, hopefully skate this weekend will be on banks for them see how we do. Until then tight lines everyone.
    Cheers Jon (High Flyer)

27 Apr 2016 by Adam Shaw

    Report on-board Warrior

Weather was great for a spot of bream fishing ,with the flood tide and light wind together we were full of hope ,The fish Started of feeding very well with fish to 2.5lb landed ,but as the tide changed the fishing tailed off with the afternoon being a wash out for bream .We found a few thornbacks on a near by sand bank and the usual dogs ,the first mackerel and a couple of hounds >but the main thing is the bream are there to be caught so give it a go light tackle ,small leads and shallow water .What could be better ?
