    MARCH FISHING

At last some nice weather in Weymouth for us to be able to get out on the wrecks/ Inshore fishing.

The fishing on the wrecks has been amazing at times, some days a bit of a struggle but still being a reasonable amount of fish with some crackers coming aboard, biggest this year so far being 19lb 8ozs Pollock falling to Alan Shepard from Minehead.
Pete Huznyl from Coventry also had a fish of a life time in March with his John Dory weighing 6lb 12ozs what is also the new boat recorded. (pictured)

    INSHORE FISHING

The big fish fishing has been steady with some big specimen Rays/ Spurdogs coming in. Hopefully soon to be followed by the Undulate Rays, they has been a few coming in off the shore now so wont be long and all you Undulate virgin can come out and catch one of these stunning Rays.

Shambles isn't on fire at all but there are fish showing with an average of 6/8 fish a day, but all you Turbot chasers know its only that one big fish what makes it all worth it.

Fingers crossed the weather continues to be nice through out the year and we get to see you all again.
Thank you for all coming to Weymouth and making it down here for the nice weather.

If you would like to be on my last Minute texting group please send me a email with your name and number and i'll add you to it.

    Tight lines

    Report on-board Optimist

April 5th, a great days fishing on the Skerries Bank with a variety of species coming aboard and as usual a few surprises. There were Plaice although not plentiful they were still of a reasonable size, Blonde Ray made an appearance with the usual fight to get it aboard. We also had Launce for bait on the banks edge with Herring and Silver Whiting. The biggest surprise of the day was line caught Spider crab of a good size brought aboard by Matt Crisp from the midlands not once, not twice but three times the third one returned as it was a berried hen he now proudly boasts the title of "Spiderman" Once again the Skerries Bank produces a great days fishing with a twist, sadly towards the end of the session the wind gained in strength and made the last hour rather uncomfortable but due to its direction made for a speedy ride home. Why not join us for the day and be the one to boat yet another surprise species that is all in a day's fishing on Optimis

  • 06/04/2016 Fishing Report by TERRY BATT on Vanishing Point-2 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

6 Apr 2016 by TERRY BATT

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Well with the Thornback Rays that were boated yesterday many triple hook up's it is ...fun fun fun all the way.
It is most important when there are this many fish being boated, that you keep a level head on how many fish are taken for the pot..!!

I say this because it's so easy to bash these lovely fish over the head, then after a couple of hour you realise there may be 20 fish in the box..!! but then the realisation that these fish have to be gutted, and skinned and most anglers, either cant do the preparation, or are unwilling to do the preparation, then you end up with the situation with a boat load of dead fish that gave a great days sport laying dead and I have seen from my seat in the past from my CCTV stern cameras anglers throwing dead fish over the back of the boat thinking no one saw what just happened..!!

I think a lot of angler's should be very grateful on our boat (Vanishing Point-2) Nicola is always on hand to help with processing the fish, but I do think guys take advantage of her..!!! trip after trip they play the old card.
.WE DON'T KNOW HOW TO GUT AND SKIN THESE NIC, CAN YOU DO THEM..!! well this is going to stop now, she will be on hand to advise you , but you will have to get stuck in and do the gutting and skinning yourself, unless like one or two of our anglers are elderly and unsteady on their feet, or disabled then of course Nicola will always continue to prepare your fish for you but if you just cant be asked to gut and skin them..... then throw them back to fight again...!!

Sorry if I sound a bit off, I don't meant to sound grumpy I just want anglers to take responsibility for their catches
and there is a sense off I think achievement, ... baiting, casting, catching and finally dealing with the catch to take home...!!! and once you have done a few Skate you will find it is not so easy, thats when you will start thinking of returning some of you fish.... as seen in the photo..

    Rant over.......lol......... Tight lines everyone
