  • 03/04/2016 Fishing Report by Carl Farrar on TROT- ON (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

3 Apr 2016 by Carl Farrar

    Report on-board TROT- ON

Neville and the lads travelled over from Carlisle to fish with Whitby's Premier charter boat Trot On today.
With the day starting out with a little light drizzle we headed out to one of skipper Paul Eddon's favourite wrecks out on the 18 mile mark. After a steady steam out arriving just as the tide was slowing to slack water.
Time to fire bait down was the call. and as usual Paul was right on the money.
Fish were falling to Squid baits as soon as it hit bottom. mainly coddling to 6 - 7lb. The pollack were not to be left out and we had several in the 6-8 lb bracket. Until Whitby local Perry Franklin hooked into a Very, Very good fish that fought like the devil. When the fish finally broke the surface he realized why. It was foul hooked in the tail. A point Perry was reminded of ALL day with some great light hearted banter. The fish was still not to be sniffed at weighing in at the Whitby Charter boat Skippers Association Spring festival at 11lb 7oz and taking the daily 1st place, Fishing was consistent with several fish being boated each drift. a change to shads when the tide started running also produced fish but bait was the main call of the day. A day that was spoiled when Sammy the seal decided to make an appearance. One lad had what looked to be a very very good fish on until his rod bent a little more and his line came screaming off when Sammy decided it was lunch time. This quietened the fishing so a quick move was in order . We also had a steady picking of fish from the next wreck. We ended the day with over 100 fish between us and loads of the smaller coddling returned to fight another day. If you are fishing at Whitby there really is only 1 boat to fish with. Nobody works harder for the angler than Paul he has a certain knack of putting you on the fish.

  • 02/04/2016 Fishing Report by Graeme Galloway on Amatheia (Gosport, Hampshire)

2 Apr 2016 by Graeme Galloway

    Report on-board Amatheia

Saturday we headed east to visit wrecks I had not fish since early 2015, first drift produced pollock in there ones and two and this was to be the pattern for the rest of the day, the tide never got away which made the fishing hard as plenty of fish were show over the wrecks but not actively feeding the angler persisted and at the end of the trip there was plenty of fish to take home for all. Sunday we headed south into much deeper water which gave us better tide run and the fishing was constant with a good catch being shared between the anglers, so a big thanks to the angler who came aboard AMatheia over this weekend and look forward to see you again
    Tightlines Graeme
