Goes to show everyday fishing the river Mersey can be different ,Saturday was slow unfortunately,but Sunday the lads from Phoenix sac had a great day they managed 18 Cod 1 lb to 3lb 10 whiting 2 dogs 5 flounder and 1 megrim the lads went away happy il upload pics later thanks lee. FISHING AT LAST
After strong North Easterly winds all last week , weekend weather was reasonable although cold but with small tides Managed to get out on the offshore Ray banks with good results .
best day 13 nice size Blonde Rays biggest 19lb. 3 undulates around 14/15lb few congers & a 7lb cod so a lively day all round

SPRING AT LAST
managed a day out Sunday 29th march
actually turned out to be a nice springs day, feeling pleasantly warm and a nice sea state for a change.
feels like we've eventually turned the corner now
and the fishing wasn't to bad either with fish off most wrecks we visited, nothing massive but a nice stamp of fish
mainly in the 5-7lbs range with the best angler spawny jimmy taking 9 fish the others averaging around 6 a piece.
the best cod going 7lbs and also Pollack to 7lbs and also a couple of early season catfish [wolfish]
roll on the summer,

18TH AND 19TH OF MARCH
Cod still in river our best Codling of the weekend was 5 lbs 4oz sat totaled 5 keepers with Thornback rays to 8lbs 9oz plenty of undersize Cod ,Whiting.Dabs,Dog fish Flounder and a Plaice,
Sunday saw a group of lads from Poland out that had only Pirked and jigged before for fish, so it was hard getting them to put there rods down. They did eventualy we managed 5 codling to 4lbs 8oz plus plenty of undersize Codling ,Thornback rays of 8lbs 5oz and 9lbs4oz ,Dabs,Whiting and Dogfish .
PLEASE NOTE WE NOW START FISHING OFFSHORE ON THE MANY WRECKS AND BANKS OUT IN LIVERPOOL BAY FOR POLLACK,LING,COD AND BASS. ALTHOUGH THE BASS BAN IS STILL IN PLACE WE CAN CATCH AND RELEASE UNTIL JULY

Never ended up going out to wrecks today,the lads on board just wanted to get fishing Asap,it wasn't great nothing to write home about,lots of small codling and whiteing nothing big lots of boats in river today all the same story, 1 boat wer lucky they had 2 nice keepers 7 pound and a 5pound cod so there is still some nice fish there they just weren't biteing today Phil from Lancaster managed 3 different species today and 8 fish in total he went away a happy man, got the lads from Phoenix sac on tomorrow for a match so hopefully they will do ok il let you no how they get on, still places for Easter weekend any 1 interested give a call thanks lee.07514337195

RECORD BREAKER
50 year old Kevin Reay landed a 24Ib 8oz Spurdog and with the current British Record apparently standing at 24Ib 5oz this was a superb specimen. Kevin did not want to kill such a superb fish so it was Weighed photographed and returned alive.This big Spur also beat the Flamer IV record which stood at 20Ib.
Kevin was using 20Ib class tackle with a pennel rig of Sakuma Manta hooks baited with Squid and Mackerel cocktail. ANOTHER RECORD BROKE - Kevin also broke The Sea Angler Magazine Mission Accomplished Spurdog record and also won their Fish of the Month Prize.

Although it might still be pretty cold out at sea most days it's certainly starting to seem like the start of spring. It's always nice to see the dolphins around in the channel when the sprats start to move in on the wrecks. On our first wreck trip a couple of weeks ago a large pod of dolphins turned up at the mark we were fishing and we had to move as the pollock went right off the feed due to the dolphins chasing the sprats about. This was just a small speed bump on our first wreck trip of the year and we managed plenty of fat spring pollock well up into the double figures. Elsewhere we are still getting the best fishing I've seen in a long time on the banks for rays and spurdogs. This should continue into April before the temperature starts to rise slightly and the spurs disappear for another year. Our biggest to date this season is 25lb 4oz but unfortunately it was not overly keen on having its photo taken so we weighed and released her quickly. This Monday will see our first trip down to target the turbot and brill of this year and wednesday will be our first crack at the plaice with the light gear.
