    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Well time i brought the month of January 2016 up to date unfortunately been a very testing time for us weather wise and fish wise too. We got plagued with millions of whiting just before christmas which seemed to put the cod off or they couldnt get to our baits either way we couldnt connect with many odd few here and there. Then tons of sprats poured into the roads where we fish inshore, seagulls dive bombing behind the boats wash thousands of sprats being churned up by every boats propps causes us a problem as the cod rise of seabed to feed while were on the bottom. Very testing to say the least! At this moment in time we have managed the odd codling ,plenty of whiting of all sizes and saving the day for us the flatties on the inside marks and bank providing some sport. The added headache is the mild weather not suitable for cod in my book i havent a clue whats ahead at the moment will we get a spring codling rush your guess is as good as mine. Very much hoping to time will tell wont be long till March now when usually weather breaks few spotties come about followed by the skate start of spring my favourite time of year lighter nights.

Would like to say a very big thank you to all my customers knowing how hard the fishings been here at the moment who still come regular and support me for putting up with the constant moving around to try all areas its very much appreciated and hopefully a end to our crazy weather which has sent the whole country upside down. Hopefully will have a great summer lots of new ideas to try this year, bass sport should improve with new restrictions, our new spurdog trips proving very popular with everyone keen to try, and as every our night trips increasing all the while.

I know its early but summer dates going already so any if your thinking of wrecking or tope/bass and require certain tides please get in touch to avoid disappointment, and also our colour BROCHURE still available just text or email your address will post one out to you. Until then tight lines hope to see you all soon.

    Report on-board Duke IV

It's a cold breezy day but the Skate are coming thick and fast, herring being the bait today. The gulls are chasing the sprats with the Cod underneath them pushing them to the surface. When the sprats move off the Cod will return to bottom feeding giving us a better chance of action although the Skate are fighting fit and making for great fishing for now. Dont miss out on the fish fest off Ramsgate now! Pic shows part of today's catch

  • 25/01/2016 Fishing Report by Nigel Lihou on Optimist (Brixham, Devon)

25 Jan 2016 by Nigel Lihou

    Report on-board Optimist

Optimist has remained afloat during our stormy winter months going out in the small windows in the weather to get out and on the fish, these have generally been midweek as most weekends have seen winds of force 4 - 6 and above making the opportunities to get out very slim. When we have managed to dodge the weather we have found Pollack on the offshore wrecks when we have managed to get through the many Whiting which have been there in large quantities and of reasonable size. The Skerries is still producing good size Rays with a few Plaice and there is some good fishing to be had with a drift on the Skerries. The inshore marks and reefs are catching well with Bull Huss, Conger, the inevitable Dog fish and Whiting which seem to be everywhere at this time of year. Optimist still has a few available spaces for the summer of 2016 and is looking forward to catching some good fish contact us for further information.

  • 01/2016 Fishing Report by Scott Belbin on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)

    Jan 2016 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

Im sorry its been so long since my last report on here but as ever ive been very busy with the boats as well as ashore so something had to give. I have kept my website and facebook page up to date though. Those of you that read my weekly reports will have a fair idea that its been hard work for the cod around here recently. This is down to many factors including bait fish distracting them, drop in water temp and lack of fish in the first place. Ive no doubt they will be back at some point in the near future though and the mild turn in the weather will help if it stays. Thankfully we have still been able to get out and find a few fish though with good numbers of thorn-back rays about until last week. Since the population of thorn-backs has increased locally we have regularly seen them 12 months of the year. January and February have also become a good time to catch some of the biggest females too with our biggest of the year coming out this time last year. The whiting and dogfish have been showing too although the cold snap has pushed life a bit further afield for the time being. If we get the tides and weather we will be heading offshore again. The weather put a stop to any offshore trips for over two months but we have managed two trips off there so far this year. There hasn’t always been lots of what we want off there but we did find a couple of decent fish in the last hour of the last trip to make the effort worth while. After the usual barrage of dogfish and whiting and a few rays we hadn’t seen anything special until Lawrence hooked a decent fish. it got us in a bit of a muddle around some other lines but we quickly untangled the and soon had it in the net. It was a lovely bass of 9.8lbs which wasn’t quite what we expected but very welcome. It was a great fish to see and made a change from the carp he usually fishes for. With the end of the day fast approaching I managed to hook into a decent fish myself which went really well having several good runs on light tackle. When it surfaced martin netted it for me. It was a nice spurdog which went 15.7lbs and a great addition to the days catch. We normally only see spurdogs on these offshore trips so it made the effort a little more worth while.
Over the coming weeks I would expect to see the cod come back on the feed and if it stays warm I would hope the thornbacks will be in numbers too. there will be the ever present dogfish and whiting too. if we get offshore who knows what will show up but I would bet lesser spotted dogfish will feature in high numbers as ever. • 24/01/2016 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

24 Jan 2016 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

The weather gods were semi kind to us this weekend here at ‪Whitby‬. We managed to fish both Saturday and Sunday, the wind direction and strength made the boat wonder a bit at anchor, but with perseverance we found the ‪Mistress‬ anglers a few fish!!!

Saturday was hard work despite moving around lots of ledges, gulleys and ridges, we finished up with 25 cod for the day plus a couple of Ling, Coalie, Poutings and Whitings,

Sunday I worked a different area, when we first arrived the wind was very fresh making bite detection hard, so I got the lads to let off plenty of line and hold the rods the same as we do when fishing from the shore, Bingo! the fish were at us within minutes and we started taking a steady picking of fish,

Slack water was slow, as always, we managed maybe 4 or 5 cod, then I moved to a ledge that has served me well for the start of the flood, I was a bout to give up when we'd not had a bite, then suddenly all the rods started going, we were getting 2 or 3 rods in at a time, and had a good afternoon,

Again nothing massive to report, the biggest went maybe 6lb most in the 2lb-4lb bracket, and a few chuck backs, the best angler took 14, the rest of the lads managing 8-9 fish apiece so we ended up with just over 50 cod for the day.

We are now taking bookings for the season, and the good tides are starting to fill up, we usually finish ‪uptiding‬ around march and then start back ‪‎wrecking‬ as water clarity allows.

If you fancy a trip me, give me a shout on 07977 436903, e-mail me at seafishingwhitby@hotmail.co.uk or drop me a message on my Facebook page Mistress Sea Angling Charters,

    Tight Lines - Rich
