Fishing Report by TERRY BATT

Report on-board Vanishing Point-2
Well like Ray Martin, I would agree, Saturday was lovely weather for a change and yep, we also had non stop action on the boat, strange as it is Herring is certainly the bait for the Roker, and like Ray said, all we got on Ragworm were doggies, and a few Whiting, Bass seem to be more on the lug-worm at the moment, and squid also a good all-round bait, taking Bass, and Roker. Monday the boys called early at 0630 to see what the weather was doing? so I looked out by window as I live 200 mtrs from the river Crouch and told the organizer it was blowing about 12-15 mph NE and raining, and he decided to cancel, and I didn't argue with him because it certainly would not be a great fishing day, and I didn't want to be seen to be ripping the party off by forcing the issue about going.... But... 10 minutes later I get a call from the other half of the party who were already halfway to Bradwell.??? and were horrified to hear I (apparently) had cancelled it, well I quickly explained I merely told the trip organizer the weather conditions, and he decided no one wanted to go..!!! well the lads on their way did not want to be cancelled and were prepared to pay for the whole boat and bait, even thought they had £90. worth of worm bait already, but were dedicated fishermen and I love em for it, so enthusiastic so we meet on the boat at 0915, I would have gone at 0600,but once again the organizer told me the boys didn't want to go early, and told them it was me who preferred the later start ...huh.. I wanted to get up in the shallows for the first of the flood tide for the Bass, sadly that didn't happen, but we did head out for the Maplin sands and pushing against a hard flooding tide but still made 22 knots and was on our first spot in just under an hour, and after a very wet 20 minutes we got our first bite ... a hound around 12 lbs a nice start, then we got a few more fairly quickly, then with an Easterly wind and a big hard flooding tide both together we slipped anchor, so had to re-position the boat, and it was like throwing a light switch the fish were gone, weather the noise of the anchor dragging, lifting it and dropping it again, disturbed the fish??? but we didn't get another bite so I made a move not far, but far enough on a clean bit of ground, and eventually we started getting a few bites again, Hounds, Roker, Doggies, Whiting... then at the top of the tide around 1400 we went back over the top of the sands to try for some Bass, which was what the guys really w

Fishing Report by Rich Ward

Report on-board Shy-Torque III
The fishing remains very steady here at Whitby. Over the last week or so we have certainly had more good days than bad. A steady picking of codling wherever we've worked to be honest. The "codling" seems to be the main stamp overall this year. Usual size being 2 -5lb. One or two more decent fish thrown in amongst them.
Last Monday saw the weather take yet another turn for the worse and is currently out of the North with some strength behind it at times. Just hoping it doesn't do any damage before the September comp gets under way this coming Saturday (5th Sept) We have just 1 day left in the comp now (Tuesday 15th) Individuals are very welcome to join us.
The competition offers anglers cash prizes up to £1000.00 !!
This last week has seen some very happy anglers aboard the boat. Best Cod fell to regular angler on the boat Simon England at a shade over 13lbs.
A very good Haddock of 4lb 4oz fell to a newcomer to the boat. Gedirius from Leeds.
Simon is pictured.

Truly amazing reef fishing this past month. Huge bags of Ling, Whiting and Pollock and the odd large clonker Cod. I thought we were doing well with 20 pounders but now we've upgraded to 30 pounders. As always struggling with wind over tides, but hey I guess that's just Cornwall. Looking forward to some crispy winter weekends.

Fishing Report by Rich Cope
on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)
31 Aug 2015 by Rich Cope
Report on-board Mistress
Finally I've found a bit of time to report on our last week or so here at Whitby .
Id like to say the #Mistress anglers filled the boat everyday, but I can't, BUT the fishing has remained steady / good, I found yet another couple of new ridges with my Maxsea as the tides started picking up and they produced well for us over a couple of days, nothing huge most fish in the 2lb-4lb range with the odd 6lber chucked in, again all on shads.
The wrecking produced good catches on the small tides with a better stamp of fish boated, all happy lads one crew caught more than enough and left a bit of fish behind saying they had more than they wanted, so I passed a few fillets round the local to few mates, who were appreciative.
Our last day of the week we saw a very small window in the forecast, as the sea came away northerly, I knew we'd have the weather behind us on the way home, I took a gamble and had a run offshore to a well known wreck, it payed off for us with us having one of the best days of the year, Pollock to just under 9lb and lots and lots of prime Whitby cod,
We managed a couple of hours wrecking on our chosen mark before the sea came away but it was more then enough time to satisfy the lads! the fishing was absolutely frantic! most fish in the 4lb-6lb range with a good few around the 8lb mark. all on shads and light gear.
We are now closing in our Autumn festival which starts on the 5th September for 2 weeks, £1000 up for grabs as a top prize plus daily prizes for heaviest three fish weighed, we got the 2nd heaviest fish last year and won the event the year before on Mistress.
If you'd like a run off with us give me a call on 07977 436903, e-mail me at seafishingwhitby@hotmail.co.uk or drop me a message on FB page Mistress Sea Angling Charters.

Fishing Report by Scott Belbin
on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)
Aug 2015 by Scott Belbin
Report on-board Galloper
August has been a good month to us although it may have been wet and windy at times we have managed to get out and as ever the fishing has been great. Our inshore trips have produced a nice variety of fish with many winter species such as cod and whiting showing already which is a good sign for the coming season. We have had a few tub gurnard mixed in which have been showing more frequently over the last 12 months than they have for several years. The smooth-hounds have been here all along and we had another run of big fish as is traditional around this time of year for us. We had several good trips and saw plenty of double figure fish. However one evening trip stands out as the best trip for them. As we had a couple of late arrivals and due to tides and having to steam a fair distance we could only manage just over 3.5hrs fishing as it was just a 7 hour trip but luckily it was a busy 3.5 hours. Things started slowly with one or two hounds coming aboard or being lost. As the tide started running it went with two or three big hounds coming in at a time. These fish fight well enough anyway but in the shallow waters around here I would say they are unbeatable very often jumping, rolling on the surface and dragging our anglers on a lap of the boat. The best fish of the evening fell to hiroshi just as darkness fell. It was clearly a decent fish with a lot of weight behind it and after the obligatory lap of honour around the boat she gave me a shot with the net. Once in the boat and photographed we weighed her in at 23.5lbs which was not only a PB for Hiroshi but for the boat too. needless to say we were all pleased for him. We had several more fish before heading home for the night. I couldn’t tell you an exact number of what we had but I stopped marking them down at over 40 and I know we had several more after that so with at least 50 decent hounds for the night along with the odd small bass and whiting it had been good.
On the offshore trips we’ve been concentrating on bass which haven’t been bad although maybe not as good as previous years. We have always found a few fish and some nice ones too. these too fight very well in the shallow clear water where they can be caught on nice light gear too. sizes vary from trip to trip but most have been 2-5lbs so far.
As I mentioned earlier there have been the odd codling showing for a while now and they are pushing closer in shore too. they could well show up in numbers on one of the next sets of tides as they move in for the autumn run along with the rays.
Over the next month we should see a mixed bag as the summer species and winter species overlap for a while. Anything could be on the cards and most will show on squid bait although worm can help for some species.
