Autumn offshore bassing
View Boats Page
The autumn Bassing is well underway!
Offshore showing a great stamp of fish around 4-5lb on the lures & worm baits & exceptional numbers showing too! This is fantastic fishing some of the best Bassing you will ever experience in my opinion!
Locally has been productive for Bass at times this is usual for this time of year especially on the bigger lures this is because the bass are shoaling up putting on weight to move off for the winter!
We often come across gannets & gulls diving in the masses during autumn picking off whiting that the bass have worked to the surface its a exciting way to fish among the birds!
lately we have had countless bass for hours up to 7lb all using lures just see my socials for the footage & reports.
I will be targeting bass offshore as much as the forecast allows until end of November then over the winter months hopefully the Codling & Rays will keep us busy
Theres a Handful of walk on availability left on bass trips during November but they are filling best to contact me on 07523488290
Thanks everyone

As you might expect the offshore bass fishing is in full swing at the moment. Given the right conditions and if you can afford it we can bass fish most of the time. They have varied in size and numbers from day to day and place to place. They are pretty widespread at the moment however the fishing is better in some places than others.

Jon and the lads joined us once again the other day. the weather was pretty good with a bit of breeze on the way out but an improving forecast for the day ahead. Unfortunately just as we set up to start bass fishing Jim managed to get a hook well and truly stock in his index finger! After a long journey out and with lots of fish showing beneath us the rest of the lads offered to head straight in but Jim insisted they carry on without him. We didn’t know how long we would stay for but Jim seemed ok and we monitored him as we started to fish.
Jon was first into a fish almost immediately! The other lads weren’t far behind him and there was soon a steady stream of chunky bass coming over the side. The stamp was great with lots of 4-5lb fish and several over that coming aboard. It was great to see such quality fishing but it made it even harder to drag our selves away from it. Jim insisted that he was ok so the lads decided to use their bait up and head in. we fished for 2.5-30 hours with only 4 rods fishing most of the time as Jim tried in vein to remove the hook and Dave would catch a fish then sit it out for a while before casually catching another. We easily had 30-40 decent bass in that time with the biggest falling to Jon and pushing double figures but landing just shy. Unfortunately there wasn’t much time for me to get pictures with everything going on but I grabbed one here and there. I’m sure they wont do the fishing much justice though.
As we headed in conditions fined right away, it was a shame to leave so soon when the fishing was that good but at least we had a nice ride home. Jim headed off to A&E to get the hook removed and I gather is on the mend now.
We will continue to bass fish offshore until the end of November. Hopefully we will have a few more days like this. Please remember the fish will vary in size and numbers from day to day and place to place
I also feel I should remind you that there is a national bag limit of two bass per angler per day. this has been the case for several years now. I don’t necessarily agree with it or the way things are but I wont allow you to break the law on my boat while I am responsible for you. I don’t care what nationality you are. I don’t care if other skippers turned a blind eye to your behaviour and Its not my fault if you claim that you weren’t aware of this law. If you wish to break the law, try to intimidate me or whinge all day because I wont let you do as you want then please go on somebody more desperate boat.
Sorry for the moan but as you may have guessed I had a snotty party that ruined a flat calm day full of fish with a poor attitude. All others are welcome, attitude makes the difference.
I have individual spaces and possibility of full boat bookings over the coming weeks and months if you want to get out.
Remember it is often worth giving me a shout if you are cancelled else where and still wish to get out, as we have lots of sheltered fishing available and a big catamaran which makes it even more comfortable.

Prior to the last trip out last Monday, the previous couple of trips out have been a bit slow with a relatively poor catch rate.
Last Monday was our last run off before our lass and me came away for a short break.
The day fished slowly to start with but after a move to a little wreck 12 miles North, we managed a nice few fish to save the day.
Nothing flash to report size wise but enough fish boated to keep young Fergus busy filleting for the lads all the way home!
A gorgeous day weather wise too with some lovely warm October sunshine.
Cheers and see you all after we get back.

The weather forecast for today, had looked ok for a few days and pleasingly that turned out to be the case. A group of mixed experiences on board today, from brand new, to “Salty Sea-Dog” and all points in between.
View Boats Page
With the tides back over 5m it was always going to be a mixed day of wrecks and rough ground. To start with, we clonked a load of fresh Mackerel to accompany the Squid the lads brought for bait. With seven hire rods aboard, we kept everything very standard, which is essential to help reduce tangles. Muppet bait traces with Squid and/or Mackerel and 16oz leads to combat the wind and tide. With there being a chance of a few better sized fish about, we left the Hokkai’s (which also cause more tangles) in the bag.
To start the day, we ran out to the five mile ground for a few drifts. Everyone had got into the routine of controlling the tackle and it wasn’t long before a few fish started to come aboard. We had a mix of Codling, Ling, Haddock and a few Whiting. We had started at the South end of the ground, but the bites became less frequent, the further North we pushed.
I ran us back to the southern end and we had a decent hour. Everyone got off the mark and Adam Maguire started to put together a nice box of fish. Daron Grant took the biggest fish of the morning, a nice 10lb 12oz Ling.
We opted to run out to the nine mile stream for slack water and have a go on a wreck. For a few of the lads it was their first time on a wreck and I thought they did well. The wreck wasn’t too bad, giving a few Codling and Ling. Just as the first sniff of the Flood Tide came through Daron struck again. This time he had a nice plump Cod of 10lb 12oz, which was great to see.
The remainder of the day was spent on rough ground, picking odd fish here and there. A revisit to the five mile ground and the last drift of the day gave Andy Cooper a nice 11lb 4oz Ling to finish with.
A very enjoyable day for me, it was great seeing the lads who haven’t done it before getting a few fish. Thanks everyone, see you next time.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

The general fishing has become very autumnal in recent weeks as expected. There are hoards of whiting queuing up for our baits along with the sought after dogfish. It really is a bite a cast with a few rays, hounds, bass, dabs, pouting ect showing in between. I haven't spent much time inshore but I have heard of one or two codling starting to show. Looking forward to trying for them this week. I have a few spaces this Saturday inshore then next week offshore.

Fishing Report by Andy Savage
on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)
9 Oct 2023 by Andy Savage
Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
Today was one of my own fishing days with five friends aboard. Having looked at the forecast, we decided to have a bit of a later start, as there looked to be a fresh breeze against tide first thing.
View Boats Page
We all met at 0900hrs and were away shortly after to look for some fresh Mackerel. Unfortunately that didn’t go so well, with us only picking up a handful between us. Everyone had squid to use as well, so we dropped onto the first wreck of the day. I wasn’t too optimistic as the water looked quite green and with nothing much doing after twenty minutes or so, I moved us further out to a wreck in the five mile stream.
Water clarity looked a bit better and we spent the next hour taking two or three fish a drift. Nothing massive; Dave Sharp taking a Ling around 9lb as the biggest. With everyone off the mark, we fished two more wrecks as the tide ran into slack water. The sport was steady, but not amazing.
With having experienced anglers aboard, all the different tactics were tried. On the third wreck, we found the Shads worked well, with a number of nice Codling up to five pound falling prey. Although Tony Firman got a surprise when his Shad was snaffled up by a Squid!!
As is usual, the Muppet bait traces loaded with either Mackerel or Squid provided some nice fish around slack water. Simon West caught consistently and then he got “rumbled” when we noticed he was slipping a Black Lugworm on as well as the usual baits!! Unfortunately he didn’t mange to land the seal which he played for fifteen minutes, while we ripped into him….
It was a really, really enjoyable day and my own fishing days are something which I cherish. The banter was brutal, but hilarious in equal measure.
Thanks for a brilliant day out lads, I needed that.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl
